A song for "BBH"
CUT TO:
INT. A PLAIN HOSPITAL ROOM - A RAINY DAY
CLOSE UP of A NURSE who is putting A HOSPITAL GOWN on NILA CELIA, 18, who is suffering from Ebstein’s anomaly resulting that the color of her skin, is LIGHT BLUE.
NILA (V.O.)
Normally the knowledge of the days you have left, brings you to life...
We see from up close Nila's flickering EYELIDS, then the nurse tying Nila’s hair to a PONYTAIL.
NILA (V.O.) (CONT’D)
According to that, I should've been very much alive throughout my whole life...
She takes off her FEATHER EARRINGS and puts them on the table where wind moves them just a bit.
NILA (V.O.) (CONT’D)
...Since I always knew I would die.
We follow her BARE FOOT from the sideways as she walks slowly on the white clean floor. We hear A DOCTOR and Nila's MOTHER CAROL, in her 40-ies, talking in a low voice outside the room.
DOCTOR (O.S.)
There's little we can do at this stage with the blueness, miss. I'm sure you have already been told that it is due to the air her heart that is not able to take forward---
We stop for a beat when Nila climbs in bed her feet pulling out of the picture and CUT TO where she lies down (doesn't pull the blanket over her).
CAROL (O.S.)
(Interrupting the doctor)
I know I know, but people are staring at her and she refuses to wear make-up and...
Their discussion fades somewhere as if they were walking away.
NILA (V.O.)
But not when the doctors say so... But when I say so.
A rhythmic heart beatish song starts to play (as if in the beginning Massive Attack's song "Teardrop"), it fades in and everything that now follows happens in the rhythm and beat of the song.
CUT TO:
INT. SMALL ONE-ROOM APARTMENT WITH ONE LARGE SHEET-COVERED WINDOW, NO FURNITURE EXCEPT FROM A MATTRESS - THE SAME RAINY DAY
CADE, 25, a gorgeous Indian, is painting his ceiling. Cade has blue and red paint on his olive-colored dark skin and his black, thick, long hair is on one braid.
We follow with a CLOSE UP of Cade’s painting brush as he paints VEINS.
MATCH CUT TO:
We continue to follow outstanding veins, but now on Nilas' arms and chest.
MATCH CUT TO:
Back to the veins on Cade's ceiling.
DOLLY IN:
We approach a big photograph-like HEART of a patient suffering from Ebstein’s anomaly, on Cade's ceiling painted by him.
A drop of paint falls.
MATCH CUT TO:
A BLACK DROP falls into an MRI of Nila’s heart, which is on display in her hospital room. The drop runs slowly across the heart.
DOLLY OUT:
We can now see the whole hospital room at once.
MATCH CUT TO:
INT. NILA'S ROOM - THE SAME RAINY DAY
Nila stays the same, staring at the ceiling, as the surroundings fade until the hospital room has changed to be her own room. She now has a stethoscope around her neck. She puts it on her ears, places it on her heart, and listens. The heart beat rhythm continues on playing and the beats seem as to be Nila's heartbeats. We can see from the window that the rainy day has grown grayer.
DISSOLVE TO:
DOLLY OUT of Cade lying on his mattress staring at the ceiling. He is wearing a shirt that leaves room for his MUSCLES to be shown as his right hand is folded under his head and the other one lies relaxed on his ABS. But his face shows expressions of anxiety. He moves his right hand to rub his forehead frustratingly. As if something would soon be seriously wrong...
CUT TO:
INT. BACK TO NILA'S ROOM AS WE WERE
A beat on Nila before the music suddenly stops. Out of the blue, she starts having serious problems with breathing, as if she were choking. Her head digs into her pillow as she tries to catch her breath, eyes flickering white. She is having supraventricular tachycardia.
