On July 17th, 2010, i kept track of the number of people joining the hitRECord community for 50 minutes straight. 8648 people - 4:03pm 8649 people - 4:04pm 8650 people - 4:05pm 8651 people - 4:20pm 8652 people - 4:22pm 8653 people - 4:26pm 8654 people - 4:27pm 8655 people - 4:28pm 8656 people - 4:30pm 8657 people - 4:34pm 8658 people - 4:42pm 8659 people - 4:43pm 8660 people - 4:44pm 8661 people - 4:45pm 8663 people - 4:47pm 8664 people - 4:51pm 8667 people - 4:53pm As of now,1:49am, July 18th, we have just reached 8,866 members. Wow, huh? =) So, for me, i think the most awesome things i think i could see happen here on hitRECord would be... 1. To find ways of increasing and improving communication between hitRECorders. Back on V3, people would send me direct messages (as we had personal email-type inboxes then) and would say, Hey- i've heard some of your songs, and i like your voice. Wanna work on some music together? And what would be great about having inboxes again would be that i think this would speed up the creative process between people immensely. 2. i would LOVE to start a *TALENT DIRECTORY*! Back on V3, i started a project called The hitRECord Switchboard where i had a list of links to over 100 different hitRECorders listed by Username, alphabetically, with a link to their hitRECord homepage, and then 3 main *talents* (chosen by the hitRECorders themselves) which gave a brief description of what creative skills of theirs they would most like to have utilized within the hitRECord collaborative processes. Think how great this would be here! Hmmm... for my project, i need the help of a writer, a drummer, a photographer, and a stop-motion animator. Okay, well- let me go find people on the list with those talents listed next to their names. Oh, cool! Metaphorest writes, Joe drums, MattConley's a photographer and Horrorshock666 can do animation. Fucking cool, man! i've found some people to contact and ask if they wanna contribute to my project! This would be when the direct-messaging system would be very useful. You could start a collaboration for the project- out in the open, just like we always have, but then you also send a link to that collaboration and a *talent request* or *creative skills request* out to some people you would really like to have help you out. i hope i explained that clearly enough. Anyway, i think that would be just dandy, man! =) 3. i started a project here on V4 several months ago called *The hitRECord Library* (a find RECords by SUBJECT) collection of albums. This was inspired when Joe and i had seemed to make a connection in the thought of *A painter should know his paint* - pointing out that here in our REmix world, a RECord isn't just something we have created (like a painting) but it can also be used as *paint* for someone else to use to make THEIR next REmixed RECord. But how do we find our paint? How do we know what we have to work with? Haven't we all felt overwhelmed a little when trying to find all the RECords we need to make something new? i have probably spent at least 40 hours building the hitRECord Library, and i think it would be very useful for people looking for certain RECords they need for a project. i also think it would be a cool place for people new to hitRECord- or even just visiting hitRECord to get an idea of what kind of *paint* we already have to offer for them to work with. If our awesome *REEL* inspires someone to make something, my hope would be that the *Library* might also inspire them-giving them ideas for things to make when seeing certain things grouped together in this fashion. After i started the Library, Tori made a video for SXSW in which she cited one of my library albums as a REsource- since she had found a bunch of photos of cameras to use in her video RECord without having to search through- wait- let me go check what we're up to... well, as of now we are up to... 25,918 image RECords!!! (Wow!) So, it was less than that then, but you get the idea. i work on this project, sifting through RECords on a regular basis, looking for new things to add to the library, and i really enjoy doing it. i would love to go on to create several new libraries full of Subject Albums dedicated to not just photos, but every other sort of video, audio, still visual artwork, and text RECord- on the site. i just really would love it if there could be a link somewhere- easily found on hitRECord that says *Visit the hitRECord Library* or something. My work on this project is really only gonna help other hitRECorders if they know about it... and then they would access it... and then that would encourage me to keep going with this. Then hopefully more people would begin to utilize the work i've done to create their RECords. And then i would smile really big like this: =D because i fuckin' love this place with all my heart. i am pretty much just a recluse who sits around and hangs out here on the site anyway, so, Joe, please! If you ever think of some kind of a project for me... like you want me to scout out some RECords for a new project, or you want me to track down someone who can juggle or yodel- or whatever i could help the company out with, just ask me, okay? Helping hitRECord grow or improve in any way would not be a chore for me, it would be an honor- and something i could feel proud of! Besides, my therapist says that everything i do here is great *ART THERAPY* for my PTSD. *hehe* Really! =) Oh, God- this is long! hey gwen! i've been on hr for a little while now but i didn't know about the Library! wow! this is soooo awesome! so first of all thanx gwen for all the work you put in to that. i spent half a day looking thru it! what a great way to find records,
and i wouldn't have known about it if i weren't reading the comments on pickle's post (thanks Marke) SO i was ALSO thinking there should be a link to this somehow, like in the tab section...
i also second the messaging idea. glad to hear there might be something in the works! :c)

@RegularJOE --- Another neat way of finding out people's main skills would be if on our homepage information, we had a dropdown list of options to choose from to label ourselves with- you know- like under out profle pic on our main page under city, website, etc, it would say *singer* or *actor* or whatever somehow. Or you could let us have a small limited spot where we could type out a paragraph about ourselves under our profile pic maybe. Just a thought! Cheers! -gg =)
