Sounds of Art - Camera Exposure Times
I make art with my camera.
RECords of light, exclusively, until now.
One of the things I notice about taking pictures is the sound of it -- less so on new fangled digital cameras than the previous generation -- film cameras with a film-advancing motor (listen to Girls on Film by Duran Duran). I notice it every time I Hit RECord with this camera. I can really hear the difference depending on different exposure time.
For the photographically disinclined, exposure time means how long the camera's shutter is open and the light from the subject is shining on the "film." It's measured in seconds or fractions thereof. My camera will make photos with exposure times between 30 seconds and 1/8000 of a second -- aka one 8000th of a second -- or there's 8000 of them in 1 second.
It sounds different and it feels different in my hands.
and I know it'll come out looking different in the resulting record.
