The leaves rustled in the wind and the air was crisp, fall had definitely arrived and everything was changing.
The grass did not need to be cut anymore and the roads started flooding as the leaves filled the grates over the catch basins. The flowers were just dead already or dying, the occasional weird person out taking pictures of these dead flowers thinking someone might want to look at them.
I turned the light out and took one last look out the window to see how the street was looking and there in the second block I saw the shadow and noticed the strange gait as the person wandering forward came down the street. The shadow was staggering almost falling down. Another drunk on a Saturday night, something made me continue to watch as it came closer, something made me think maybe this person/thing wasn’t drunk but was struggling to stay upright.
I put on my coat and went downstairs and looked out the living room window and noticed that the stranger was not much closer then when I viewed it from upstairs. The deadbolt slid silently out of its little hole and I stepped outside to see what the issue was. I looked down the street and started forward to see what I could do to assist. I had determined something was terribly wrong.
I stepped onto the sidewalk and briskly walked toward the stranger, he was wearing a hat and had a gash on his forehead with a trail of blood coming down the side of his face, I no
