I teach The Stranger to inner city high school kids in New York. I tell them about existentialism. That life is empty and meaningless. That we die and that's it. Everything we do means nothing because we die. It's about how we look at the moment we're living that counts.
Most of these kids hate reading and writing but they enjoy The Stranger. Because when they don't hand in an assignment or fail a test they get to say that it doesn't meaning anything.
