This is the "Work In Progress" of RE: Cinema that we showed at the BFI in London on July 2nd, 2011. Although it is not a more cohesive or "finished" video, a work in progress in this fashion really opens up the room for ensuing conversation.

Going to the movies is unlike any other experience. It's different than watching movies on TV, online, or on a plane. I love the social experience of sitting in a dark cinema with a crowd of people and sharing a film together. Don't you?
I'd like to make a sorta artsy hitRECord-style documentry regarding the Cinema. We've discussed the topic quite a bit at our "Hit RECord At The Movies" shows. But I'm eager to hear from everyone else as well...
ALL RECORDERS -- record your thoughts and feelings regarding the Cinema. Ideally, I'd love to see people take their cameras to cinemas and speak their minds into the camera there. If they won't allow video cameras inside, then do it outside. Or, you could just do it at home. Here's some questions and ideas:
- Describe a memorable experience you had going to the movies. Again, not watching a movie at home or anything, but one at a cinema. What movie did you see? Who were you there with? What happened during the movie? What happened before or after?
- Do you find there's a big difference between watching a movie at home, or watching a movie out at a cinema? What's the difference for you?
- Tell us about a particular cinema you love going to. Ideally, RECord yourself going there and showing it to us. Why do you like it so much?
- Or tell us about a particular cinema that bugs you. Also ideally, RECord yourself going there and showing it to us. Why do you dislike it so much?
- Are you usually quiet or loud during a movie? Do you laugh? Squeal? Shout "don't go in there!" ? Or are you the more quite meditative type? Does it bother you when other people are loud? Or does that enhance the experience for you?
- Do you find the cinema a romantic place to bring a special someone? Why or why not? Any good stories, hmmm?
- Do you prefer watching a movie in a packed house, or with a bunch of empty seats? Why?
Right, you get the idea. Any other thoughts, questions or answers you wanna offer, go right ahead. Be insightful. Be funny. Try to be concise.
VIDEO EDITORS -- Download some contributions to this collab, and start putting them together. It'd be great to also use pieces from the discussions RE:Cinema during our "Hit RECord At The Movies" shows.
In fact, here's an album I compiled of clips I recommend you use — http://www.hitrecord.org/records/426615
A note for video editors -- this goes for almost any editing project on hitRECord, but especially for documentry style stuff. UPLOAD A VERSION WITHOUT MUSIC. That's not to discourage you from using music in your editing. But it's great to additionally upload a version with no music, so that your edits can be seamlessly remixed into other edits.
