This is my first RECord and I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. But from all that I've seen and read about this site, I like it. I like being able to discuss creative projects with individuals all over the world. So if this is a collaboration idea that has already been created, I'll move my ideas over there.
So, here's what I want to do.
I want to collaborate on a horror project. A short film or short story. Hell, it could be long and evolve into a full screenplay. But I love horror films so much and just wanted an outlet to toss around ideas for new, original horror - something we don't have much in today's industry.
So often today, horror is formulaic and full of cliches. I want to work on a horror project that breaks the mold.
Some thoughts:
- In horror movies, cell phones go out, the victims are in the middle of nowhere, and they make incredibly stupid choices. This is not scary to a lot of viewers as they will never find themselves in those situations.
Instead, have the horrific events unfold in 'best case scenario' type settings. Let it be in a suburban neighborhood in broad daylight. Keep the phone lines and internet connected. Have the victim be intelligent and creative with escape plans. I want the reader/viewer/audience to feel as if these events very well could unfold any day.
Of course this presents some interesting challenges to the writer(s). The killer/antagonist will have to be smart to attack under these conditions.
- Another thing I would like to do is blend horror genres. So often horror films stick to their sub-genres that the audience knows exactly what they're going to get before even starting. In "Saw" you know it's going to be torture porn. In "Friday the 13th", you know to expect a slasher icon and dumb teens. In "Paranormal Activity" you know it's going to be, well, paranormal activity. Combing these genres can present the audience with an engaging, horrific thrill ride.
So I have no clue if this is going anywhere but before I get more specific about story lines, I wanted to see if anyone else was interested (and if I'm even doing this right!)
