The bachelor pad of one Wilhelm Wartenaufdenkopf was a very comfortable place for permanently disfigured sort such as him. He had all he needed: a bathroom, a bed, and a big kitchen. Besides hunting down and offing the denizens of dark Amazonian domiciles, in his spare time, Wilhelm created culinary works of art.
Having experienced difficulty downing normal food ever since “the incident” that caused him to wheeze every time he spoke (his business associates used to refer to conversations with Wilhelm as “catching a buzz”) he had learned to create food that was more easily consumed, and very tasty food at that. Had there been a market for people who permanently had a kazoo lodged in their windpipe, Wilhelm could have easily made money selling his creations. Unfortunately, no such market existed. No longer being able to work in his chosen and beloved profession, Wilhelm had begun working in the field of biofuels as an independent researcher. He had recently stumbled across a way to combine his love for making delicious and easily consumable soft foods with a solid money making profession, and was making good money growing product in a hidden part of his bachelor pad using hydroponics. He also had many other enemies on his hit list, and a byproduct of this biofuel producing product was fertilizer. He hadn’t gotten the mixture just right yet for making the bomb work in the manner he needed, and had spent the morning preparing to test his latest experimental design. He had high hopes for this, the 18th reconfiguration of his original plan. He stirred the pot he had on the stove, and then checked his watch, thinking, “anytime now.” ************** The ferret, Fiddlewinks, frolicked ferociously in the pile of bones he had been collecting, only a block away from Wilhelm’s Wyoming bachelor pad. He took inventory of the many rabbits and rats he had recently rendered redundant, relishing resplendently his fattening belly. Fiddlewinks felt as if he was king of the world; all the food he needed plus quite a nice selection of mates that had recently increased in population. The day was starting off great! He had just scarfed down a baby bunny – whole – and was ready to go out hunting for honeys. As he scurried away from his collection of ex-critters, he noticed a rich tapioca smell in the air. “This is something new,” he thought as the fire consumed him in a flash. ************** Ba-whoom! The whole building shook with the impact of the blast effect from this “experiment,” and Wilhelm said out loud, “Ptheh - too salty” as he tasted the crème brulee that he had made from the cassava he was growing. So much effort had he spent on making the crème brulee that he had forgotten that he had a cassava cake in the oven and smoke began to pour out. The smoke alarm went off. Wilhelm opened the oven door and pulled the cake out, setting it on the counter next to the kitchen sink. He opened the window, turned the oven off, and then turned on the floor fan to clear the air. Checking the calendar as stood on a stool and pulled the battery out of the smoke alarm, he noticed tomorrow was June 28th, National Tapioca Day. He sat back down at his kitchen table, and took a big bite of his pudding, ignoring the fact that he had used a dash rather than the pinch of salt the recipe had called for. After swallowing, he chased it down with a glass of his money-making biofuel, thinking, “Who knew tapioca had so many great uses?” |

Chapter 2: Death by Tapioca!

The way this game works is as follows:
I plant 'seeds' for a story. They include:
-the opening scene
-the opening characters
-5 elements that begin to guide the story.
WHERE IT GOES FROM THERE IS UP TO YOU!
This is an ongoing writing game I used to play with my friends and it's always jolly good fun. After only a few days as part of the hitrecord.org community, I already feel completely awed by the talent and supportiveness of so many of you, and can't wait to see what you do with this!
Right now it is 12:00 AM EST on Wednesday August 4th, 2010. In one week's time, at precisely 12:00 AM EST on Wednesday August 11th, I will set the 'seeds' for the next chapter, based on the story which has received the most recommendations.
Like a relay, the story will be passed off and continued from there. This cycle will continue for five chapters until we have one complete story, the cream of the crop, risen to the top! And at that point, I'll have an extra special surprise in store...
That's it. Let's see what you can do!

Opening scene:
a boathouse near the jungle
Opening characters:
- Willhem, a salesman
- Dolfhankton, a photographer
- Kaylee, a bodybuilder
Necessary Seeds:
1) the color of mauve is pivotal
2) a kazoo almost leads to death
3) someone has a leg spasm
4) tinfoil saves the day
5) "why that's impossible!" must be spoken
Silly? Perhaps. Potential? Oodles. Interpret it all as you like, and just remember: be creative and have fun! If you support this idea, please oh please oh please recommend it, participate (even if its just a tiny story...), and get your friends to participate as well!
