I’m a beginner documentarian, and have been working on an idea for a while having to do with the events that occurred 9/11/2001.

The working title is Where Were You Then/Where Are You Now?

The basic premise is to get footage/interviews/pictures of people telling where they were and what they were doing the moment they heard about the attacks, and then where they are now. What I’ve found is that everybody I’ve talked to can remember in explicit detail what they were doing...and most will admit to the fact that that day changed the course of their lives in some form or fashion. These are the stories I want.

I realize different variations of this type of thing have been done, but I think with this community’s help, it can be something really unique...because instead of having the typical interviews and what not, it will be individuals taping themselves and/or writing their stories in their own words.

I plan to include news footage that I’ve found on some public domain sites along with amateur footage. Any and all forms of records are welcome, be it text, video, photo, art...anything. And this may go without saying, but regardless of the fact that this happened on American soil, people from all over the world were affected as well and I’m very interested in their stories too. I'm not looking for this to have a political or religious agenda - just people telling thier stories.

My goal is to have this completed in time for the 10th anniversary of 9/11 which obviously is next year. Like I said, I’ve already done a ton of research and some preliminary stuff, but now need to capture the “heart” of it. And that’s where all of you come in.

I will actually be in New York City next month to get some footage of specific things and places that I want to have in this, so if there’s anyone in or around the city who would be interested in meeting up regarding this, just let me know.
