UPDATE -- SEATTLE: Since we're coming to the Seattle's Neptune Theater to Hit RECord At The Movies on August 23rd, I thought it'd be cool to have a Seattle contribution to this collaboration.  So Seattlites, RECord your city!  Shoot video, draw pictures, write about it, sing about it, etc.  Hopefully we'll have something to screen at the show...

 RE:Cities

I was born and raised in the suburbs. When I was nineteen, I left home and moved to New York City. That might have been the smartest thing I've ever done in my life. This summer, it's ten years later, and I'm getting to live in glorious NYC again.

With this collaboration, I'd like to explore Cities. What they look like, sound like, feel like, sure, but not only that. I want to explore how Cities affect both individuals and communities.

For example, when I moved to NY, all of a sudden I was in direct proximity to countless people every day, rather than shelled up in a car, and I think that changed me a lot. I began to feel like a small but significant part of something larger than myself. I grew curious to figure out what/how I could contribute. And I came to care how that might impact others around me, even perfect strangers. I've heard others report that Cities turned them into vicious followers of a narcissistic rat race. Among plenty else. What's your experience?

IF YOU LIVE IN A CITY -- RECord it! Relate the specifics of your city. Explain how that impacts your life, and the life of the city's citizens in general.

IF YOU DON'T LIVE IN A CITY -- If you live in a suburb, a small town, a rural countryside, etc... I'm still curious to know about your perception of Cities. What do you think is the difference between where you live, and a big city? Do you want to live in a big city one day? Or would you prefer to stay away from such crowds?

Anyway, that's a starting point. This is gonna be one of those ones that takes shape gradually and organically.

Contribute any kind of RECord. Talk into your video camera, like I've started to. Or write something, make music, take pictures, etc. Anything to express your thoughts and feelings RE:Cities.
