- Something's Going To Happen - Fan! ACT II Scene...
The accompanying song is to be sung by our Fan girl, Chelsea - a different key will probably be needed. I JUST wrote this song! See the FULL description for the entire scene 1 and 2 of ACt II
ACT II
Scene 1
INT. Masquerade Ball ballroom, Day before Masquerade Ball. Tables and chairs are stacked in a corner, ready to be set up, and caterers, location staff, and some of the Live Recording Crew are moving around in the “background” having fake conversations / filming the scene as it occurs. A group of dancers are rehearsing.
LESTER
(Leads the dancers in rehearsal as part of the troupe.)
5, 6, 7, 8… More Passion Ricky! Misty, watch those arms. And 1, 2, 3, 4, step, turn, lift, and rest. Great work – looks like we have a little time before our special guest arrives, so take 5.
(Grabs a water and a towel, and starts to sit down in a spare chair, but stops as…)
JOE
(Enters with Chelsea at his side.)
Lester! My man! I’d like to introduce you to Chelsea, who just arrived all the way from Heathrow! Chelsea, this is Lester, the man who is going to take your great dance number and make it unforgettable!
CHELSEA
(Holds out hand to shake)
Pleased to meet you Mr. Lester.
LESTER
(Grabs Chelsea’s outstretched hand daintily and smiles broadly.)
Oh you’re even more precious in person that you are in your video. Honey, the last person that called me mister was in handcuffs and leather. He was almost as cute as you! Everybody calls me Lester – I hope you don’t mind us adding backup dancers to your routine.
CHELSEA
(Looks at Joe and smiles – then back at Lester.)
Of course I don’t mind! When Joe told me about it on the way over I was thrilled in fact. Thank you so much for doing the extra choreographing!
LESTER
Thanks she says! Baby girl, thank me AFTER you see the routine, although I’m sure it will be as perfect as ever. You don’t spend 15 years in this business without learning something!
JOE
That sound’s like an excellent idea. I still have some coordinating to do with the staff here for tomorrow, so I’ll leave you two alone for now. I’ll have the limo pick you up in, say, an hour - will that be enough time?
CHELSEA
(Looks at Joe with a mild fear of being abandoned, and disappointment of not being with him at the same time.)
LESTER
(Places hands on hips, palms out, and gives Joe a sideways look up and down, and a look of disbelief at how low Joe estimated the time needed.)
You do whatever you need to do, cutie. And don’t worry about the Limo; I can take care of miss tiny dancer here. I’ll get her to her hotel when we’re done. Anyway, we’ve got work to do, so go, skit scat.
JOE
(Turns to leave, then looks back, looking forward again right after Lester’s response.)
Thanks Lester – you’re the best!
LESTER
(Smiles and winks.)
How would you know?
LESTER
(cont.)
(More quietly to Chelsea, sighs, then…)
He’s more fun to watch walking away, am I right? Well any who… we’re here to dance. EVERYONE! Let’s get going again. Sweetie, sit right here and just watch for now. We’re running through this without music right now, and I’m interested in what you think!
Lester and the Backup Dancers go through half the routine. Chelsea sits and looks on, smiling, and occasionally glancing over at Joe, who exits upstage with a staffer. Chelsea looks disappointed that he is gone, and gives all her attention to the dancers.
LESTER
Okay, stop right there. So, Chelsea, what do you think so far?
CHELSEA
You are all so amazing! I am honored to be dancing with all of you!
LESTER
You’re not dancing with us yet. Let’s get you out of those travelling clothes and into your outfit – it’s already in the dressing room. Come this way. Everybody else, stay warmed up, we’ll be right back.
Lester leads Chelsea to the other side of the stage. As he does, the Set itself – along with the other cast members is moved off stage, and a dressing room is moved on stage. This scene change can also be achieved by a mid-stage scrim being lowered into place. Lights go down on the set except for over the dressing room portion.
SCENE 2
INT. large, multi-person Dressing Room. Chelsea and Lester enter through a door. Costumes, mirrors, makeup, lights, etc adorn the room.
LESTER
(Walks over to clothing rack and takes Chelsea’s Costume off the rack, handing it to her.)
Here it is. It should fit, but if it doesn’t let me know when you come back out and we’ll get the tailor to modify it before we leave today.
(Reaches over to clothing rack again – retrieving a plastic-wrapped brand new Dance leotard, and handing that to her as well.)
After you try on the outfit, change into this and meet us back out there. We need to do a full rehearsal today if we want everything to go well tomorrow. So, I’ll leave you to it – try to hurry up, okay?
CHELSEA
(Smiles at him politely.)
Okay.
LESTER
(Expresses the thought through his actions, mannerisms, and expression that locking the door is only necessary because Chelsea is an amateur, then smiles nicely as he engages the lock on the handle then leaves, closing and shaking the door behind him. Walks off stage into the dark behind the dressing room set.)
CUE MUSIC: Something’s Going to Happen
CHELSEA
(Walks over to the door to check that it is locked, and then changes into the gown for the first part of the song. The dressing room can have a folding partition for her to change behind, but it is desirable that she simply change without one to further express the idea that she feels comfortably safe, alone in this room. As music begins she looks into one of the mirrors and speaks)
New York City! In all my dreams…
(Continues to change…Singing.)
It’s great to finally be so close
To meet my idol face to face
And though I’m putty in his presence
It seems there are greater things here in this place
I feel it’s all because I gave up
Trying so hard to make him aware
And maybe doing what I’m best at
Is what finally made him care
New York City
How I love ya!
Glad to be here
Can’t get enough of ya!
New York City
So it seems
You’re the home to
All my dreams!
I dreamed it was going to happen someday
Never dreamed it would be so soon
Now things are happening so quickly
Like I’m being fed from a silver spoon
I feel like something’s going to happen
Something beautiful and bold
If I can make it here, I’m told
The rest of my life will be like sparkling gold
New York City
How I love ya!
Glad to be here
Can’t get enough of ya!
New York City
So it seems
You’re the home to
All my dreams!
All my hopes
And my heart’s desire
Rest on doing the best that I can
Letting everyone know I’m on fire!
Something’s going to happen
And it’s up to me
To dance the dance of my life
Yes it’s all up to me!
New York City
How I love ya!
Glad to be here
Can’t get enough of ya!
I dreamed it was going to happen someday
Never dreamed it would be so soon

Updated 10/4/2010
I just began work on the 3rd to last and 2nd to last scenes in the Musical, and it has occurred to me that the title of this musical shall be simply "Fan!"
this is sort of in keeping with "Oliver!" as far as show titles are concerned. I haven't seen any musicals by this title. If you have, let me know.
Updated 8/20/2010...
This Collab is based on my short poem, The Groupie. We plan to do a Musical out of this - which will (hopefully) be performed on a Stage. Hopefully, some hitRECorder is a Drama student, or has ties with a community Little Theater and will perform our little Musical (not so little from what I envision) and Film the production. Then, the multi camera angle recording of the Live performance can be edited and cut together and put up here on HitRECord for all of us to see!
If it's well written and performed, perhaps there is a chance that this can go further than just here at hitRECord.
We'll just have to see where this takes us.
You are encouraged to contribute ideas for the direction of this story. Also, we need your artwork, set design, and all things Stage Play related. Again, this collab is not planned to be something that short videos get made for, but there will be a few along the way to demo elements of the final production.
We need song writers. Also, this needs a dancer or two or three because The Groupie will make a Dance Video for hitRECord.
This collab needs singers and musicians. All of our demo songs will need to be fully orchestrated for a pit orchestra. We'll need intro, intermission, outro, and transition music. We are writing a score to a Musical, so get excited!
We will write the Book and Music to this together - you all are welcome and encouraged to contribute scene suggestions and ideas for dialogue and songs. It wil be a rock opera style with tie in dialogue - more music, less dialogue. At least that is my initial thought - who knows, that could change.
There should be fast songs, romantic songs, scary songs, and the like, so I feel that the more contributions we have for our show tunes, the better will be the choices, and in the end the production will benefit from the variety when we settle on WHICH songs we actually use!
The Groupie character is fully developed now - we need to concentrate on plot development and additional character development.
What other characters belong in this Musical? Is there a background story that has social significance that can be incorporated and woven into the fabric of our story? Let's explore the possibilities together, shall we?
Update 10/4/2010 - The socially significant "thing" about this musical is extreme fan behavior - to hold up a mirror to society about how this type of fantasization is harmful to them and those around them - and demeaning to the celebrity they worship.
Please keep checking back - we are having a rich collaboration here already and I am very excited by the participation so far. Folks - THIS is what collaboration is all about!
OK, let's KEEP collaborating!
