This is a sculpture I made, inspired by "The Broken Hearts Club". It depicts how I believe people perceive themselves after a heartbreak; completely empty with their hearts exposed.

With Valentine's Day just around the bend, I've been thinking a lot about Miss Cake's Ode to an Ex exhibit - a teeny tiny art show, featuring a dozen or so visual and literary artists, which opened on February 14th in Benson, Nebraska three years ago. It was, by far, the most inspiring and entertaining show I'd ever attended... filled with dark humor, somewhat homicidal (but harmless!) rage and unusual tributes to that which so many of us know so well: heartbreak. The collection's always stuck with me. I suppose, most of all, because it seemed to shine a giant spotlight on the creation of unique and entertaining artwork from within the belly of a painfully sullen beast.
I would love to see a collection of RECords from those of us who are, perhaps, celebrating a Valentine's Day of a different shade of red this year. Or any year, for that matter. I don't believe love lost and aching hearts have to be a buzz kill. I think they have every bit as much potential to shake laughter and inspiration from our bones as the whimsy that so often carries us from day to day at hitRECord. And so...
I propose this Broken Hearts Club: A place for text, images, audio and video devoted to the narrow escapes, shattered heart valves, tears in our cereal bowls and so on. This is my first collaboration and I'm, admittedly, a little nervous. If anyone has anything they'd like to add or expand upon here in the description, please let me know! Or make your own description of how this collaboration speaks/seems to you... Any and all contributions are welcome! I'd just love to see us come together.
