EDIT// I thought this could fit the theme of outsiders! :)

---

I have always loved sojushots' amazing illustration "let down your hair", and now it inspired me to write this song. It's a bit darker than the original story of rapunzel, just like the illustration. The same story, different ending! :))

I would love love love loove it if someone would add some accordian or strings to this song, you know, to build it up bigger, and then maybe in the final verses also some drums..... it would be awesome...... ;)

---

Here are the lyrics:

A man came across this old tower one day It was straight like from a book he once read He lifted his head up and saw this young lady And here's what the lady said:

CHORUS "Moi je m'appelle mademoiselle Noir Et comme vous pouvez le voir Je ne souris, ni ris, ni vis Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit"*

The man was so scared he could only run away He ran to the town and then said: "I just saw a lady with the longest dark hair And I think she's a living dead!"

The people, so scared, took their guns and their swords They ran to the tower and then They saw the pale lady and felt a great fear When they heard how she said it again:

CHORUS

The people, they knew what this all was about She was clearly a demon from hell They decided to set her long hair on fire In the end it would burn her as well

But the lady was no demon she was a lonely soul Just like in that book they once read Still waiting for her prince while her hair was on fire The one last time she said:

CHORUS

---

(*"Me, my name is miss Black And like you can see I don't smile or laugh or live" And that's all she said.)

Enjoy <3

first track on album 'spilt milk', but copyright shmoppyrights. right? rights.

and someone asked for the lyrics:

drag your feet, keep your life strapped to your shoulders.

if you don't carve your age into your belt, you wont get any older

it's a mixed up masquerade, a penniless arcade

every face a frown, oh what a crazy town

hang your head, they'll steal the toes right off of your feet

you're lucky to count all ten, when you're living on the street

its a story thats been told, a body thats been sold

'round and around and around. oh what a crazy town

(see) joy around here comes in a little pink balloon

and if you got out of here yesterday it wouldn't be too soon

it's a cardboard palisade, a pocket change brigade

every way is down. oh what a crazy town

The rhyming creation myth by wirrow and Metaphorest.  I tweaked the words just a little, and my draft of the text is resourced below.  And here I recorded a reading of it.  There's already been lots of great readings of this poem, and I hope there are more to come.  I think it might be cool to mix a grand multitude of voices together to tell this story.

The next thing that probably ought to happen is for visual artists to start drawing specific parts.  Pick a stanza you like, or even just one line and turn it into any sort of image.  Maybe pretty soon we could have a bit of a storybook slideshow going, which is usually an important step in big animation projects.

song i RECorded, hmm, october 2006. Don't know why I've never put it up here before. there's tons of shit (songs especially) i should probably just start letting go of, releasing, that is, the RECords.

tonight I put it up because i read a poem phonontek wrote on tumblr. i don't think he's released that on hitRECord yet. well maybe perhaps he might. His poem is called "Here Again."
http://michaeleverett.tumblr.com/post/530146045/here-again

ha! now, in fact, he has Released this here poem as a RECord here. So I've cited it as a Resource, the link's down there.

Anyway, this is one I made called Sick Again. the lyrics go...

SICK AGAIN

sick again
medicine
tired liar
strong and scared
pair us up and dance despair
with lonely cares of might and may
and dream today away away
and say the sinners of their sin
i need some more medicine
i'm sick again
sick again
medicine
sick again
sick again

Metaphorest beautiful poem put to music. The guitar, vocals, cello and shaker were done by myself and the other shaker and the drum was done by my brother Dougie Mackie aka Fameless. Producer: Dougie Mackie Recorded through a radio Mic I couldnt find a shaker around the house so I made one out of a medicine bottle, cocoa pops and sugar. The drum was a big cardboard tub with a plastic lid. haha. Seems really odd. If anyone wants to put a harmony on top you are more than welcome!

A cheesy but hearfelt little tune about this magical place and why it is I stick around...

Oh and please add bits/yourself to it! Clap your hands, shake your keys, sing along - whatever you feel like!

Lyrics!

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record

Again by heart
from the start
I could see
that you were all like me
And you wanted to be free
to share the things that made you happy

There's a kind of synergy
when a brain
and another brain collide
I'm not just me
I'm a cog in the wheel
of a giant family

I wanna make my mark
make a spark
that makes you wanna
make magic, make art
I wanna hit your heart
like cupid with a dart

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record (x3)

This is my final version of Half of Me.

I want to thank everyone who worked so hard on this song, even those of you who's contributions I didn't use, it meant so much to me that you took the time to try and help. I tried to put as many parts in as I could, it just started to get muddled for me at a certain point so that I had to weed it down until I got this final product.
It was very hard for me to do that, especially with xoSasha, macjames61 and SpectrumCJ because I really liked what you guys did, I just couldn't (with my limited expertise) make it work.
So again please don't take it personal if I didn't use you...I loved all the contributions!

a special thanks to hedge, braun22, macjames6, shadowstorm88, and venns who have been with this project since the first day I uploaded it and have spent countless hours tweeking and playing around.

As far as the arrangement, it couldn't have happened without hedge's instrumentation which I used as the guideline for the song, so
thank you thank you thank you!!
also to IlliterateWriter and michellek for the incredibly beautiful violin parts, to Braun22 for being endlessly patient with me and making the bass to my specifications, to ladyAdelaide for the gorgeous piano, to DoctorWorth whose guitar parts I loved and Visitor for giving me the guidelines for the guitar parts I wanted.

AND an extra special thanks to RegularJoe who not only created this incredible website for me and all of you to take advantage of, he also recommend this song and got us all the help we needed.

Notes:
*there's some clacking from the piano sustain pedal.
i couldn't do a thing about it so just close your eyes and pretend she's playing in the room with you

*please listen with head phones :)
I paned the violin and the piano to opposite ears for a surround sound feel

Hitrecord Testimonial: :)
I moved to central Wisconsin from Phoenix, Arizona in January and had to quit all
3 bands I was in to do it. Since i couldn't play any instruments, I felt like a part of me had died and pretty much had no purpose in life. I woke up, worked, ate, and slept like a robot. I felt like half a person. I wrote this song one day last month and the next day I just happened to find Hitrecord.org. I decided that if I was ever going to be able to finish any of my songs again THIS WOULD BE THE PLACE TO DO IT!
so I sat my ass down in front of my computer, learned how to use garage band and pushed myself until I had something worth presenting to you all. The last few weeks of my life have been outstanding! I feel as though I have a purpose and this community has given me a new lease on life, that no matter where I am, I can be connected to other artistis and musicians who like me, want to create, share and LOVE.
I am so HAPPY :D and it's your fault.
Again By Heart,
❥Riana

p.s
if anyone would like to collaborate with me on a new record, this one is in progress :)

Just passed midnight here in New Orleans, so it was 30 years ago today, my mom started cleaning up my doo doos.  Tonight we sang about it.  Her first time using GarageBand!  Can't think of a nicer way to celebrate.  <3  And we'd both get a huge kick out of it if anybody remixed this in any way... c'mon you gotta, it's my birthday ^_^

Lava Tornado made music.  RayPerez sampled it and rapped over it.  I added some drums, sang along to a hook, and yes, dropped a second verse.

Hip hop is so conducive to hitRECord, or perhaps hitRECord is conducive to hip hop.  Either way, if we can do something this good without even trying, imagine what we might make when we try again!  Whether it's a new song, or another remix of this one.

I also recorded video that'll sync with the drums and the hook vocals.  Get that shit up soon, son.  And I'll put a zip file up too that should have all the raw audio etc...

Hey HITRECORD! Here is version 1 of the collage song that I made with all of your great audio tracks.  It's pretty atmospheric with plenty of room for vocals - so VOCALISTS, RAPPERS, SPOKEN WORD ARTISTS, please add your creative skills!

There are about 30 to 40 pieces of audio in here and I will be resourcing them all shortly.

Thank you so much for having me remix your killer tracks and thanks especially to everyone for such great recommendations on which ones to use!

The genre of glitch is completely based on sampling, cutting, chopping...the deconstruction of one artform and the reconstruction of the pieces into something new. I ripped the audio from RegularJOE's videos and sampled it into a track I made. I reconstructed his words to describe a lot of feelings I have regarding sampling and remixing in general. I was suprised how easily his words could tell my story.
