I wanted to apologize for not being able to make re-recs albums for the next few weeks (I'm on the move). I tried to make it up to all my readers by making this video (last week) with some records I would have re-recommended:

- "I Have No Cats": songs and collaboration

- the "hitRECord Mugshots" collaboration (and records)

- Call-In Song Requests: there are fantastic contributions!

- K-REC Stingers and the hitRECord 'Radio'

I also wanted to talk about the lip-syncing technique: I think it's not used enough for music videos in general and I would like to see how you would use it...

ok my example/ video is not the best one, but it really was just for fun. I couldn't shoot with some friends so I had to do it myself (and I'm not an actress as you can see hahaha) but for once, I wanted to show you what I had in mind and not write some suggestions or ideas for a video remix...

I didn't have much time for the editing but I will re-work on it when I'll be back. So, it's a work in progress as I'm still not completely satisfied with it.

Thanks again to tonguecutsparrow for the song and lyrics. I wouldn't have been able to make this video without the lyrics! ;)

Here's a new video after a while.

ok, I'm uploading this video even if I'm not completely satisfied with the editing, especially because I just realized, while I was listing all the records I used, there are still a lot of records I wanted to use and I simply forgot (because I didn't imported them in the editing file. My bad!)...

I'm calling this video 'Version 1', because I still didn't finish to play with Haus of Glitch's 'City By Day'. I'll probably try another kind of editing soon, mixing videos and photographs. I'll also try to really edit the video on the beat of the music (you can see what I'd like to do in this video when I used the Cameron Smith's video: "RE:Cities and ducks"), and definitely with more records.

Anyway, it's still a work in progress. I didn't use any voiceover by choice, and I'll probably won't use any of it for the next version. There are already a lot of videos to remix, and I'm not sure that any voiceover would go well with the song... but as the same time, I'm curious to see the result if anyone wants to try!

I also didn't use any footage at night, but I'm sure you'll understand why :)

Oh and yes, I'm sorry for the not-so-good quality of the video. I had to compress it, but I will upload a zip file of the original and uncompressed video. (ps: I just watched the video here, I don't know why, but the quality is better on the website...)

This is a low RES video. I hope the quality is not too bad though

I don’t really remember how this new video started. I think it started when I discovered the ‘When we were kids’ collaboration but I’m not even sure about that. The only thing I know is that few weeks ago came to my mind a video about childhood and the memories we can have from our childhood. Almost instantly, I thought about amferraro’s beautiful song. I diverted this song from its original purpose (for the ‘hevn and urth’ collaboration) because I thought it was a perfect track for this project, it’s the song that made me travel through my memories.

The basic idea of this video is that we are going through the memories of our childhood as if we were leafing through a photo album. I wanted to mix photos and videos together for a while now and I edited them together as if it was a collage made by the owner of the album. It was quite difficult to choose the photos and videos I would use in this video. The result seems unfair because I watched much more records than the ones you can see in the video, and all were great, but I couldn’t use everything if I wanted to follow the rhythm of the music.

I also used some footage from the Public Domain. I wanted to use them only for the score because I couldn’t find enough records on hitRECord (I wanted to add some children’s voices to the music), but I finally used them for the video as well because I found them interesting and striking.

Finally, for all the captions, I tried to respect the original idea of the photo (and the description of the photo by the Hitrecorder) but sometimes I also picked some ideas on other records (like for Stephen’s photo (aka thesherbethead) or Wirrow’s photo) or I imagined a new caption (but still in the vein of the photo). The title of the video comes from a tiny story written by RegularJOE. That’s why, you will find in the resources the records that inspired me all these captions (even if you don’t see literally the records in the video).

And as usual, I hope I didn’t forget to resource any record.

The « Video Editing Freestyle Session »
There is something I really like to do, it’s what I call a « video editing freestyle session ». It’s kinda like freestyle in dance...
Basically, doing a video editing freestyle session, it means editing a video that is inspired by a music. And it’s pretty much a visual interpretation of the music.
It’s a freestyle session because I really don’t know what’s gonna be the video at the end when I start to work on it.

The different phases of a "freestyle session":
- The music comes first, it inspires some emotions and/or images in my mind;
- From this, I think of a general idea of the video and I try to find some RECords corresponding to it;
- Freestyle editing: all the records are imported in the video editing software and I improvise different things. There’s no rule, no logic;
- little by little, I select some recordsI really want to use (because I think they fit well with the music and with the general idea of the visual interpretation);
- and when all these steps are done, everything becomes easy, the general idea of the video becomes more definite, more precise.

I don't know if it's clear enough, I just tried to explain this particular video editing exercise. “Life’s Journey” (I don’t like the title though, any ideas will be more than welcome) is the result of the last RECord Editing Freestyle Session!

Life’s Journey
Plot line: A man remembers some particular moments/chapters of his life.

The original idea was completely different. I discovered the different audio records of spiritmath and I really appreciate them. I’ve chosen “Reposado Sketchwork” but it could have been one of his other tracks (and I have the intention to make other video records with them...).
Anyway, the first thing that came to my mind it’s a shot of clouds (I can’t explain it, it’s just the association of ideas I guess…).
And it gradually evolves into the idea of memories (still can’t explain it, that’s why it’s a freestyle exercise hehehe)

PS
1) This is a fictional story. I hope that people who appear on screen won’t mind if their age doesn’t correspond to the age of the “character” (the one they’re “playing”) in the captions. I tried to create a story of one character from very different records…

2) I’ll upload another version of this video without the captions/subtitles. In that way, anyone can add his/her own captions in a new version.

I’m BACK ! I’m definitely back on hitrecord. I was really missing hitRECord, the daily discovery of great records, the contact with talented people… I didn’t even know the recent good news (and screenings)! Wow Amazing! Cool! But I won’t complaint because I didn’t have time to get bored either during the last few months!

I fell in love with the music of Jeremy (aka Haus_of_Glitch) and I decided to take the plunge again by making a video for this music. I worked on the version 1.0. (I can’t explain it, but I have a little preference for this version…), that’s why I entitled this record Live Acts Megamix Video 1.0. It’s a perfectible record, I think it will be good to add a lot of more stuff, even if I used some records which used themselves a lot of records… anyway, I didn’t have too much time to do it…

It’s been while that I wanted to make something about dancing, just dancing no story. I took the opportunity to not understand all the lyrics of this song to do it. I worked on the synchronization of the shots with the beat of the music, but at the same time, I tried sometimes to “respect” the lyrics, or at least few words… Well, let’s just say that I made this video with instinct…

What do you think? Don’t spare me!

P.S.: The upload of the record is very long, so if you don’t see any resources when you watch the video, there is a simple excuse to this: I’m sleeping (too tired to patient more, sorry mates)! Of course, I’ll add the resources tomorrow (when you will be sleeping basically…)

[I hope it's not a too compressed video...I'll upload the zip of the uncompressed video later.]

I was inspired by two records:
first of all, the music entitled "The Miroslav Effect (Remix)" by B*DON, I love this music and I absolutely wanted to use it;
then, the audio recording of "Balance Beam fake history" by mattsoar, it's a great vocal piece and I thought these two records match so well.

I'm not completely satisfied by the visual editing (especially the "Albatross loop" - I didn't really understand what it is, and I didn't find any pirate's shots which could work...). I created the soundtrack first and I wanted to add some images, however I think something better can be done. That's why I'll upload the soundtrack for anyone who may be interested to make his/her own version...

The first animation of the opening sequence is finally done. It's not finished though, but I thought it might be interesting to have your feedback first, even if I still have to make some corrections (there are still some flaws/imperfections in it...).

So, there's no:

- light effect

- no sound

- no final length

I also thought someone might be interested in working on a new version...and it would be easier to do it if there's no special effect (light, sound, speed).

I'm still working on it, but I'm so happy to have completed the animation, I had to share it with you :)

It was on V3 but the uploading in V4 didn't work. It doesn't matter.
Here it is again.

It's a visual poem, and I would say it's about love. In a very abstract way, I know, but it's intuitive in a way, like a poem. It's in purpose. It's maybe about two different ways to define love, maybe with the notion of commitment as a guideline. I don't know, everyone can understand it differently.

This is a kind of trailer. I intentionally didn't add a music on this video, simply because I didn't a good one yet, that's why sometimes there's no sound at all. Besides, I think some other fellows are more talented than me to choose a good music.

I'm sorry about the use of Arial font for the text... I still don't have Helvetica (and I'm afraid it's for a long time) :D

This is just a beginning... I will try to work again on this collaboration!

This is a first video editing about Pete's Challenge. I didn't have time to add the last records. It's for the next version :-)

Few remarks :
- I'm not satisfied by the "title" on the video. I didn't want to repeat "We challenge you", but I didn't find the good expression. I thought the title could be a question to the audience, but I wasn't sure what was the good-English-speaking-&-writing one between "Will you take up the challenge?" and "Are you challenging?" (in reference to the "Are you recording?")... Any idea?
- All of the videos of hitRECorders are in Black and White in order to give a sort of unity between everyone.
- I wanted to add at the end (when everyone is saying "We challenge you" the phone numbers for the donation, because it's a different number for each country (90999 for USA, 80222 for France, for example). I've got the list but I didn't have enough time to add it for this editing.
- I don't have Helvetica font...
- I've just seen the videos and the proposal of Cat, so I couldn't use these results, which are fantastic, but some of my personal stuff...
- the sound mixing is not perfect.

I'll upload a better version on vimeo (uncompressed avi).

UPDATE (7.25.11): Unfortunately, my hard disk died yesterday while I was editing the video. I'm lucky I didn't lose anything but I have to wait the new hard disk, install the operating system again before being able to upload the video! I'm afraid that this re-recs video will be for next Sunday... I guess it always happens at a bad time!

I'm working on my first RE-RECs Video and just "finished" the intro. I just added some titles to this intro and made a teaser. I will also try to make a new version for the RE-REC Video Bumper collaboration...

I still don't know when I will be able to upload this re-recs video. I'm working on the editing and still have to shoot some parts... I hope it will be for next Sunday! (Or Monday)
