Once I heard this song, I knew I wanted to do something with it.
The video is clips from my family's 8mm films that I had digitized. I have a lot more footage I'm hoping to use soon. :)
Low res file for streaming. High res file for remixing here: http://hitrecord.org/records/549264
Probably the most ambitious thing I've attempted to date. There is definitely still some room for other resources on this one, so please remix away!
I have to say, megancarnes' underscoring of Anne Hathaway's reading was brilliant and really pushed me to actually work on this video.
I had a blast going through the collab for resources. If I missed resourcing any, please let me know.

It's that state where you're not quite awake, but not quite asleep.
You drift in and out of consciousness, not quite sure what's real and what's a dream.
------------
I love light leaks on film. All of the footage is from my family 8mm films (again). I had originally intended on doing something with the footage that had light leaks with "Everything is on Fire" (and may still unless someone else wants to tackle it), but then I heard this and it was just so ethereal, I knew I had to use it. wirrow you are freaking amazing! All of the light leaks are part of the film-not done on my computer.
RegularJOE and I must be on the same wavelength because I've been working on this for the past few days, and he mentioned wanting someone to do this in reRECs this week-great minds think alike!
This is my third REmix of this, and I'm much happier with this than the previous versions as they felt disjointed. Once I figured out the narrative I wanted to pursue (with help from a friend who pointed it out), everything fell together much better.
I believe the collective viewing experience is truly valuable. One of my favorite parts of hitRECord at the Movies was getting to share it with everyone else-which is one of the things I love about this community as a whole. This started as my remix of both the Vista event and the college tour footage, but as it developed, it became more about where the cinematic experience is going.

Wow! It's been a while since I've edited anything.
I loved Lydia's thoughts RE: Independence, and while it's all amazing, I wanted to focus on just one aspect of what she decided to discuss.
Under a minute as per Joe's request.
I can upload a version without music as well.
As always, feedback appreciated.

This is a project I had queued up for a while. I really loved fractaldust's poem, and asked deeasherself to do a reading because I could hear her voice saying the words as I was reading it.
The poem itself reminded me a lot something Joe says in his "Why do I hit RECord?" video that has become one of my favorite quotes: “Records are a way for me to know that I am there. Because otherwise I could just, sort of, exist here in my own head, and…how would I ever really know that I was there at all?”
I've always thought about the things we leave behind-the records, the memories, the photographs...but lately I've been thinking about how, just like everything else, they eventually disappear. Films deteriorate. Photographs fade. Digital files become corrupted. So maybe this is a bit of a reflection on that. Or it's just 3:30 in the morning and I'm thinking too much again. :o)
Either way, enjoy and remix away.
pamagotchi's recording is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Still not a final draft, but getting there!
I know Joe wanted an animated film, but I wanted to see what I could do with this as well. I still think it could use some adjustments, but I like the idea of it starting small with something like catching fireflies to trying to contain the whole universe in a pickling jar and then coming back in again (I don't know, maybe I've been watching Powers of 10 too many times), but I think ozie's piano piece fits this idea perfectly.
Let me know any comments/criticisms/suggestions you have.

This is just a first draft-I know people are still putting up videos. I REALLY want to have people talking about their RECollections, but it's hard with music in the videos-so if you guys could upload versions without music, I would love you forever. Also, there were a few videos that I couldn't get to work with my computer, and I wasn't able to change the format of, so I couldn't use them. I'll do more drafts of this as more people upload their footage.
One last request-I'd REALLY love to have everyone holding up their RECollections and saying "again by heart." If not, that's cool, but it was just an idea I had.

My first RECord made on Final Cut...and it was a bitch...but I suppose it's all part of the learning process.
The RECnanigans that took place before and after the SF show were some of the best times I've had in a long time. This really goes back to why I love hitRECord so much-because of the amazing people in this community. Love you guys.
I'll be replacing the low-res clips from filmpunk when the high res footage is up. :)
Also, if I forgot to resource something, don't hesitate to let me know.
"I'll run barefoot and reckless..."
This line was the main inspiration for this video because of the clip of my mom running away-it just fit perfectly-and it just grew from there.
This was actually my initial plan for "When the people you love stayed," but that ended up taking a different direction. I used a lot of the same footage in the two videos from my family's 8mm films. There's also one short clip midway through that I shot on my Super8 app on my phone.
I'd love to have more VO's on the end so it's not just me on the second half of the video.
A first draft of my interpretation of Blodnasir's tiny story.
A first draft (technically a second, but because my computer shut down in the middle and didn't save...well, you get the jist of it). I may work on a second one tonight with more resources.

Just touched ground in San Fran and wanted to upload the second version of this before tonight. Nothing calms the nerves on a flight quite like editing a hitRECord video.
Still learning the ropes with Final Cut so there's a hiccup at the beginning, but I'm hoping I can smooth it out once I have the sound board audio.
This was one of my favorite moments in the night-Sia's performance nearly had me in tears with how beautiful this was.
Smoothed out the hiccup in the first draft and added some of Dr. Gory's EX3 footage
Of course I got excited when I saw there was a trombone player.
I also really liked that there were other people recording.
Christmas Eve was always a much bigger deal in our family than Christmas Day.
After dinner, we’d get dressed in our nicest clothes and go to church. I loved the candles they’d hand out, and being the kid I was, I always used them to draw wax designs on the cover of my choir folder. I remember lighting the candles, passing the flame from candle to candle, down the church pew. My mom crying as we’d sing “Silent Night.” I would sing too, while staring at the flame, entranced. I would always hold off blowing out the flame as long as I could. I was terrified of fire, but I loved it all the same. I was always the last one to let the light go out. I remember the Christmas after my dad died, sitting in that church pew, with my mom on one side, and my brother on the other, singing "Silent Night," our candles outstretched, crying so hard we couldn’t make the words come out of our mouths.
Then we’d go home, singing Christmas carols in the car as we drove. When we got home, we’d change into our pajamas as my dad put on Christmas music and started cooking. Pizza Rolls and eggnog were the tradition. When they were done, we’d gather around the tree and open our presents.
This year is the first Christmas Eve that I've spent alone, and, I'll admit, I was a little down about it. I'm no longer religious-and actually I consider myself an Atheist-but this is a tradition I wanted to carry on, and I wanted to share it with you, dear hitRECorders. So tonight I lit a candle, listened to "Silent Night," and RECorded it. I've grown so close to so many of you in the past 8 months that I've been on the site-I love you, and I consider you to be part of my family.
Happy holidays dear friends. <3
(Note: "Silent Night" is in the public domain, as well as this particular recording of it: http://www.archive.org/details/philipsSilentNight)
A short film that Tmill1031, milesn005 and I shot over Thanksgiving weekend.
This is a first edit, so if you have any suggestions, send them my way.
I can't upload a video file because it's too large, but here is the high res version of "Shadow Caste, A Prologue"

Third draft with the soundboard audio. I'll probably play around with this a bit more, but feel free to have at it. :)
While remixing the videos of AM singing "Hindsight" at the Fall Formal, I had the random urge to mix it in with the remix video I did almost a year ago to A.M. Ferraro's remix of Metaphorest's original. So I guess this is a remix, of a remix, of a remix? (I don't know if it's 3 or 4 times removed). In any case, I had fun doing it, and will tamper with it a bit more, but here's the first draft.
megancarnes' challenge to me: i challenge you to make a music video for my remix of chigwinkle's hibernation song!
And this is the result! I really love this song and had an idea of what I wanted to do with it-there was only one problem...it's now spring and I couldn't shoot the footage I wanted. Fortunately, there was so much great material on the site, that I was able to create the whole video just using footage already on the site.
As always, I think there's still room for further remixing, so have at it!

One year ago, I decided to ditch one of my classes, and go to a live event that the University of Maryland was putting on.
This was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
This year has been one of the best of my life, and I love you all so very much. Here's to many more years to come. <333
I love love love love love this video by HelloDough, and I was really excited to remix it! I added in some music and sound effects, and I really love how well scarletoak's "Whelm" fit with it. I underestimated how much time it would take tracking down sound effects that would fit, but I always love a challenge. :)
All sound effects are either from http://www.pdsounds.org/ with the exception of the tapping and the lip smack, which I recorded, and the heartbeat which was taken from RegularJOE's "heartREbeats."

Thanks Cam_4 for these fantastic animations and for making a short version for me!! :)
So this is going to be a longer, better edited video with footage I've been compiling for the past year or so, buuuuut here's my REC room(s) for now
Just some raw footage of me rambling to my webcam about Loops
Not many changes, just lowered the levels on the music in the background as suggested by LoFidelity.
I can upload all the raw footage of me working with film too, should anyone want to remix it.
Edit: Raw footage can be found here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/1325003
