Apply_texture

Hi guys,

Here's a little tutorial on how to apply a texture to an object/drawing in photoshop...

I made some print screens to illustrate this...the quality is not great...but I hope it shows what I'm talking about...

First pick out an illustration and a texture.

Open the files in photoshop and copy/paste the texture layer on top of the illustration.

  1. Select the layer with the illustration and select the area where you want to apply texture. I use the magic wand for this. In the example I'm selecting the dress.

  2. With the illustration layer still highlighted...go to Select -> Inverse.  This will make the texture outside the dress disappear but keeps the texture inside the dress (after delete in step 4).

  3. Now highlight the texture layer.

  4. Press delete on your keyboard...and tada...

  5. To finish...play around with the blending modes...In this example I used 'Multiply' ...this makes the texture blend in with the illustration...

Well that's it...I hope it makes sense...

Adjust_color

Hello again...here's another quick tip for photoshop...

This is a tip to quickly change the color of an object in photoshop.  There are several ways to do this...but this one is useful to change the color of a solid object...for more complex objects with several colors...this tip wont work.

For example...with this tip you can change the color of a t-shirt...this can be useful if you want to make a t-shirt design for the RECord store.

Here we go:

  1. Open the file with the t-shirt. (I used Marke's t-shirt template). Select Enhance -> Adjust Color -> Remove Color. This will make the t-shirt grey.

  2. Then select Enhance -> Adjust Color -> Adjust Hue/Saturation.

  3. Check the box next to Colorize

  4. Now you can adjust the color, saturation and brightness. Click OK and that's it.

This is the way to do it in photoshop elements....I figured a lot of people here use this version, especially if you are just starting to use photoshop.  If you are using photoshop cs5 this process is a little different.

Thanks for reading!

Add_color

A few days ago I read a question by GabyVaughan in the conversation thread...she asked bloemday how to do a pop of color in a b&w image...I figured I'd do a little tutorial for this...here you go...

I used my RECord store poster as an example.  There are different ways to do this but this is the easiest...

  1. Open an image (in color) in photoshop and duplicate the background layer.

  2. Select the background copy layer and convert it into b&w: Enhance -> Convert to Black and White.

  3. Now you want to reveal the color from your underlying layer (background layer). To do this you need to activate the b&w layer.  Select a hard eraser with 100% opacity and go over the areas where you want to reveal the color.

  4. You can also reveal the color using the magic wand or another selection tool.  Select the area where you want to reveal color and then press delete on your keyboard. And that's it.

Depending on the complexity of your image you can use the eraser or a selection tool...whatever works best for you.

In photoshop CS5 you can use the history brush to get this result.  Just convert your image to b&w and use the history brush to reveal the color again.

That's it.

Video_icon

I made a little t-shirt making tutorial... This might be useful if you want to design a t-shirt for the winter collection.  I tried to make it quick and easy, so anyone with some basic photoshop skills can use this.  I was planning on making a video with voice instructions but the recording software I have wasn't working well, so it ended up being a slideshow with text and screenshots.  It's bad quality, I know... Feel free to completely redo it and make it good...

Enjoy!
