i kept thinking about how musicians keep band stickers on guitar cases & teenagers have stickers of their favourite bands on their wardrobes & mirrors etc. i wanted to explore making the amoeba poster out of "stickers", looking distressed & old. not sure i quite pulled it off, but thought i'd put the idea out there in case anyone wants to have a go along the same lines. :)

A beautiful poem by adhgraphicdesign. I read it and saw a song inside it. At least I saw myself wanting to sing it.

This is only an example of what could be done with it. I was thinking that someone could try a faster remix with some of my melodic and chordal ideas. 

1st Draft of a song based on ADH's "1994" poem.  words hit me yesterday, hope I did them a little bit of justice.  Had to take a step away from it and share the sketch before I smothered it.

Flowers bloom around the tombs
An unsettling contradiction.
Colourfil life jubilantly surrounds
Death’s gloomy grey reflection.

Headstones tell a small life’s tale
Of the poor souls buried beneath them.
Unmoving angels act as sentinels
Or are they guides to heaven?

Crypts keep separate a select few
Isolated from the masses.
For even in death, one cannot escape
The bane of social classes.

Polished stones and manicured grounds
Awaiting all who visit them.
Graveyards are a reminder to mourners
Of what eventually awaits them.

Here's a little stop-motion video I made to accompany Vickie's beautiful song based on Wirrow's tiny story, "things." I am VERY much a beginner at stop motion - my skils have a long way to go, and my recording setup is Macgyver-esque at best... I'm generally happy with the scattered, dreamy feel this has, and Vickie's song is just so perfect. :)

This is just a first draft-I know people are still putting up videos. I REALLY want to have people talking about their RECollections, but it's hard with music in the videos-so if you guys could upload versions without music, I would love you forever. Also, there were a few videos that I couldn't get to work with my computer, and I wasn't able to change the format of, so I couldn't use them. I'll do more drafts of this as more people upload their footage. 

One last request-I'd REALLY love to have everyone holding up their RECollections and saying "again by heart." If not, that's cool, but it was just an idea I had.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving everyone! I don’t really have any major requests this week, but just want to check in with you nonetheless: 

Our friends at !t books/HarperCollins love our Tiny Films!  They’re really great people over there and they love what we made for the E-BOOK. Thanks everyone for a great job! But, lets keep refining the ones we have and creating new ones — these films tend to go far.  We always screen a bunch of them at our live shows — you never know where they’ll end up!

Also, don’t know if you noticed but our website is moving a lot faster these days!  Thanks to Brett and his crew for helping us move HITRECORD to a server and a new video encoder.  There are still bumps in the road so thanks for bringing them to our attention.  

And finally, I have an very exciting announcement to make… but not till next week.

This is an animation made from one of SFBakstad's timelapsed lily videos. Each frame was modified by a variety of hitRECorders & then mixed back into the sequence.

The video shows 4 different versions: full speed, slower, less than half speed (so you can see the individual frames more clearly) & then the full speed again for comparison.

The frames were modified by: rejjie, jelly bean, adhgraphicdesign, brookeduckart, moonbug & Duddelmaus! Thank you all for your contributions! :)

Now... where do we take this next?

I realized afterwards that you couldn't see any of their details when hung on the wall so I set up this temporary back light solution to illuminate the lovely duo.

I placed her in front of a temporary light source so her details would come through on camera. Ahh, and you can see how unrefined my cuts are :(  They were so difficult & TINY to cut *sigh*

Here's my take on illustrating The Man with a Turnip for a Head, paper-cut style. I've been wanting to do something with this story for a long time, and I'm excited that we'll be working to make it into a short film for Sundance!

I'm so excited about the idea of the Turnip Man short being done in paper cutouts.. Fred loves being made out of paper!! Here are a couple more versions. I'm low on paper resources today though, so if we decide to use this concept, I can always go back and revise some pieces, upload these at a higher resolution, put them on a plain background for animation, etc..

This is my concept board for The Man With A Turnip for a Head.

I don't know why, but I imagined a a 30's dandy style of clothing would really suit the Turnip man. I think that basically if everything was in a 1930s style it'd be more appealing. If you had a turnip for a head, I think you'd try and look as fashionable and sharp as possible to detract from your undersized and weird head.

Thanks to those whose textures added depth and background to my scribblings.

There are so many great And A New Earth voiceovers already! I am by NO means an experienced sound mixer, but I wanted to cut some of these together and see how great it is to hear a multitude of voices reading And A New Earth. I experimented with pace and the speed of switching voices, but I'd really like to see some work done with echoes/overlapping/etc.. This reprise project has so much potential!

(P.S. If you're in here and I forgot to resource you, just yell at me and I'll add ya! I think I got everybody though..)

I didn't think I'd have time to edit for this... but once I started gathering REsources, I just had to make time. Who needs to sleep anyway, right?:) I just kept imagining the words over this bizarre parade of masked people and I couldn't resist making it.

In this this week's Regularity! Reprise and RE-RECs...

Calling all Vocal Artists, all Audio Mixers, all Video Editors!

You might know our record "and a new earth", it is definitely one of the most impactful short films to have come out of HITRECORD and we play it at all of our shows. I was thinking that Sundance 2012 is a great reason for us to make another version of it!

I absolutely love the original, it's a beautiful piece both in style and in substance.  wirrow wrote the text and set it to a timelapse from the site while adding an instrumental track that he had made. The simplicity of it is what makes it so impactful. (here is the link to the original or you can check the resources below. http://hitrecord.org/records/141257)

But I've always wondered what it would be like if we took it to the next step because I feel this piece is really conducive to our mass collaborative creative process. 

So here's what to do: 

• Vocal Artists, Actors, Poets - record yourself reading the text of the original video.  You can read it however you like, but it may be that the more similar to the original the better.


• Audio Mixers - Mix together a large creative combination using these different recordings of everyone reading the text. 


• Video Editors - Let's start providing and editing visuals into a big montage that corresponds to the text. Remember, sometimes it's not the most literal connection that is best, but maybe something less obvious that still provokes the same sentiment as the text. 

Alright, I want to screen this at Sundance 2012, so let'sget to work!

Since the first time that I saw this 2 records, I knew that I have to do something with them and here it is the result, I hope you all like this! :)

For me, this represents a big fat F. As in fail. But I assure you I deserve an A for effort! This tiny eeny weeny distillation comes on the heels of a dedicated folding session, using adhgraphicdesign's beautiful background patterns as inspiration, followed by a massive, meandering walk with my five-year-old son, Lucius, in an effort to set the scene and film the film. However, technology has sadly got the better of me in this equation and so this is my humble offering. I cross my heart that I will, at the very least, release some more of the footage that was destined to be part of this once I've solved my computeresque problems. In the meantime, I hope you have/have had/are in the process of having a lovely Valentine's celebration (or anti-celebration), Amber. All my best wishes. x Lara x

I took this a while ago when I was trying to make a valentine for adhgraphicdesign. The hearts are folded from her vibrant designs. I've still to get to grips with my new camera but I did what I could and this is what it is.

I'm with RedHeadMonster in thinking that raw footage is a million times creepier with no sound so I married ppeppina's lovely new track 'in memories' to it and the union seems rather fitting. Let me know if you'd like it raw-er and I'll re-upload.

I love how it's sounding but we need to make it grander with more piano, brass, flutes, and strings!

SINGERS / RAPPERS / VOCALISTS: Your contributions to our track with the legendary Dan the Automator are great! But we isolated vocals like this uploaded so we can remix your audio. I really like JackMorrison's "The Links" and I think that layering harmonies over the beat is a great direction to go in. This is gonna sound dope when we print it to vinyl!

MEET OUR NEW RESIDENT CURATORS: Exciting news!  We have assembled a team of 8 Resident Curators from the hitRECord community to assist in featuring records. Each of the Resident Curators is not only a great artist in their own right but their recommendations have helped draw all of us toward records that the production company can use. So-I've had too much time off!

I have lost 60 lbs since Sundance and am back to the wiry spazz I usually am. I explained in another RECord that I had back surgery this summer (8 rods) and Sundance was my first release to go somewhere.

Well since then, while on set, I kinda hurt myself and am home for a while. I don't do well being still-so I've been running my manic mouth instead. 

I'm back to green tea- and relinquishing myself of using fuck as the only metaphor in my vocabulary!

I have said that I am also bipolar-no worries there! My downs only mean that I act semi-normal to other people! ;)

So thank you to EVERYONE for putting up with my records and comments lately (oh you know who you are...)

Thank you HitRECord and HitRECorders for being a wondrful community of artist and people (even if you are virtual).

I love this contribution for the Feminism in LRRH collab made by Amber, it's one of my favorites so I decide to make this ilustration (Remix) based on these specific lines:

I have lost count as to how many times I have heard a friend or family member say, "Don't worry, you'll find somebody someday." without me ever giving the inclination that I give a shit either way. Now, I am not saying that I don't believe in love, or that I am a man hater, but I just don't feel like being in a relationship "completes" me.

I always blush when replying to that subject, but say with a smile, "Sense I have spent all this time single and getting to know who I am I know what I like. For the low price of $23.99 I bought a toy and have as many orgasms as I want without the drama.

Ahhhh, so I took on this major undertaking after getting home late tonight... lol.

I had had a lightbulb moment while listening to MOTS on my iPhone & then seeing Kubi's "template game #2" collab... I had a vision of these hearts flashing during the verse in WAISD "My heart's beating faster, faster..."  

So I started from there and then scoured the site for other RECords to create the video... I found footage of Joe playing guitar, clips of both Joe & Dan in catsolen's Nebulullaby, animations by wirrow, along with bits of other RECords, and came up with this!!

I worked soooo hard on this tonight (or this morning, I should say, lol) so I hope you all like it!  or love it!! :-D

I like deconstructing songs on here and making something COMPLETELY different from what they were. So this is my attempt at doing that to a video. There are some sound effects missing from this because I only have so many royalty free sfx on my computer and didn't have some of the stuff I needed so maybe someone could go in and fill in the blanks if you have more sound effects or can hunt them down on here.

Hopefully you all got a laugh out of this. I mean I love the original Strawberry Bootlaces but it's always fun to remix and parody stuff.

Once I'd read the poem, I thought of doing a video like this. For four months, I've been scrolling through hundreds of pictures across the website and looking through a few of my own. I wanted pictures that seemed natural, unique and seemed like it would have an interesting story beind it. I had strict guidelines in what I wanted, except they didn't apply to every photo. It really amazed me when I looked through the descriptions of many of the photos and where they were taken.

My interpretation of the story is that he and the woman reading the poem have been travelling the world and at first the photographer was really sweet, but then he showed his true, photographer self and put photography before her.

Anyway, I've really enjoyed doing this and I hope you like it...and maybe you could improve it?

UPDATE: I've just finished resourcing, but if I've left any records out, please say. I'm glad the videos gotten so much positive feedback. Thanks.

I noticed a week ago that the record number on each record's URL has reached over 980,000 and increasing in a skyrocketing pace. So, by the end of this week, it will be well over 1,000,000! Hence, I thought I'd do a collage to honour this occasion.

In the course of making this record, I have gone through thousands of amazing images, texts, videos, collabs, audios etc. While only the images are visible on this record, I have included the portraits of the writers, videographers and music makers, whose intangible arts are equally inspiring. You may not find your record on it, even though I have resourced it, mainly due to the fact that it is hiding under the big numbers =D But I assure you that it's there.

I tried to include everyone (which of course, is impossible), so if you're not resourced it just means that I haven't been able to dig that deep. However if you see your art up there but I haven't resourced it, please let me know, as I might miss out some, thought I already wrote down everything I used on these scrap papers.

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS hitRECorders on reaching this important milestone!

Funny enough, I made this video on laundry day.

Now that I'm a college student...let's just say, the laundry machine and I have become very well acqainted. (Also seeing that I sill eat like a two year old). 

But anyways, enjoy. I enjoyed making it.

I love halloween and last year I made a video about it, this time I chose some of my favorite Halloween videos and gifs made by a bunch of talented hitrecorders and crated this video/remix: Halloween Nightmare, hope you like it!

As hitRECord approaches the magical million mark, we must also remember the creative and supportive community that have each in their own way contributed to this milestone. This collage represents just a fraction of the amazingly talented people on this site...

This took me quite a while. It started with printing and cutting over 200 portrait pics and putting them in a box so they couldn't be seen. I then asked my mum to pick and those were the ones I used.

I think I have resourced everyone. In case I've missed you, please let me know! The only pic that won't be resourced here, is the one of me, which is in the middle ;D

This is a very rough edit, no sound.

It just occurred to me (yeah, I'm slow sometimes) that all 4 of the collabs mentioned for the new show tour flow together really well.

I tried to fit together a story from innocent child, being an outsider, getting to be okay with being an outsider but it show that it still sucks sometimes, hitting the road to try and create a new self, getting lost in the self destructive loops, trying to find someone with the same kind of broken as you, trying to hit the road to escape it but always falling back in. Finally breaking free and just going.

Not sure how well it succeeded but that was my intent. Hopefully one or some of our fabulous video/audio folks can make it something special.

It gave me an error when I thought I had gotten all the resources. Double checked with my sleep deprived mind, think I got them all again but please let me know if I missed any!

For the 1,000,000 rec celebration I made this collage of all the recorders I followed at the time I started working on this. 

Okay, fixed my layers so the face in every HR portrait is visible. It's gonna be another long haul to cite all the resources again. A great reminder to triple check my work before hitting record. *sigh*

(p.s. just wanted to say there are some people I was a little shocked to realize I wasn't subscribed too. I see so much of their work recommended by others I just figured I was. I fixed that but it was too late to add to this collage. Maybe at my one year anniversary. :D)

I'd love to see others collage their subscriptions or even hit a random browse choice and just do the people that pop up. I think it's a great way to showcase a wider group of artists and help us discover recorders we may not have found otherwise.

Sometimes people are upset about certain people or work not getting enough attention. I do agree it can be frustrating but I always try to look at a positive.

It's like this place is a big city. Just because they don't know my name in Brooklyn doesn't mean my corner of the Bronx isn't freaking awesome. I love the people I've discovered and the support I get from the people that like me. That's enough for me. *just my 2 cents* ~~Deb

Childhood. 

Happy and carefree.

Full of wonder and discovery.

Learning who you might be.

Learning you  might be a little different.

If you're lucky, you'll have great parents or friends to help you see it's not always so bad- being different.

You aren't hampered by what everyone else is doing.

Not contained by their reality.

You can run away with your dreams.

Sometimes it's the only way to escape all the normal that surrounds you.

It's not always a conscious choice- leaving the preset path.

It can be a little scary, and sad.

But it can be exhilirating!

The freedom to remake yourself whenever you want and to run down whichever road catches your eye.

Meeting someone with the same kind of weird as you.

Losing yourself in a mad and passionate love.....until it ends.

And that's okay, you say.

There's always a different road, leading to a different town full of different people. 

Always another road.

Again and again.

You begin to see that maybe it's not that different after all.

But you keep trying and each loop around is harder and harder becaue you know damned well that you are the only common denominator. 

And all you can see is the trail of wasted time stretching out behind you.

But there is more time.

You don't know how much, but it is there. 

And it's full of possibilities you don't dare dream of.

Not yet.

For now, it's enough to know that there is still time to get off the road you are on.

Sooo...Amber did these amazing remixes of Soju's silhouette's and put them together in one awesome collage. I thought it looked incredible and then I saw MrsTibbs23's comment about how it looked like a storyboard and I just decided to run with it. I resourced the collage instead of all of Amber's individual remixes so make sure you check out that record to see all the remixes resourced.

Cell 1: "you can run, little girl," shouted the troll. "But you can't hide from the forest"

Cell 2: she ran left...

Cell 3: ...she ran right.

Cell 4: there was nowhere to go. she sat, terrified, to think.

Cell 5: Just then she heard a whisper. "psst...little girl, we can help each other. take my apple and kiss it three times. please, trust me"

Cell 6: thinking it was a mistake, but having no other options, the little girl did as the tree asked. suddenly the apple turned into a little boy. the girl had broken the spell that had turned him into a piece of fruit!

Cell 7: the girl was ecstatic...until the realized that the kiss had also turned the tree into a giant spider!

Cell 8: the boy came and grabbed her hand. their friendship broke the spells of the forest. the spider disappeared, the trees returned to normal,  and the boy and the girl walked safely home.

After countless hours, it is finally here. The "Merry Christmas and Thank You" RECord gift for RegularJoe and the hitRECord team. We really appreciate your efforts, guys. Nearly 200 RECords were resourced for this project. Please tell of your friends to have a look, enjoy it, and spread the love.

I tried to capture the spirit of the holiday as well as the various aspects of the art we all bring to hitRECord.

I resourced part of this to the Secret Santa collaboration and my recipient, WilliamG_Music, is actually the composer of the score you hear on this video.

I animated this with 3ds max, a rather spiffy but complicated software application. These things always take longer than I'd like to believe. I began working on this around the first of the month. I started putting the finishing touches on the video around 10:00 last night and now, 15 hours later, it's done. I'd still tweak a few things if I had time
but I'm pretty pleased with the result. There are a couple of bumps so please overlook those. If you have any questions, please ask. I'll do my best to list all of the resources here. Some were gathered via contributions to the
Christmas Thank You collaboration that I posted a few days ago. I will do my best to get all of the resources credited ASAP. I'm on Twitter @SethBang if you'd like to follow or

Every week this young woman, around my age I suppose, comes into the record store I work in. She buys a different record every time, whether it's jazz, blues, classic rock like The Clash or The Who, an album of pop cover songs, a soundtrack from a movie, always something different.

I sometimes imagine her playing the records at home, with an old record player. Maybe she got it at a garage sale years ago. She sits there and lets the music sink in. Sometimes, she plays the record again and again. She will sing and dance or just lie on the floor, with my fingers caressing the album sleeve. Sometimes I pretend I am there with her. She shares with me her favorite songs and which ones she would like to sing out loud.

I always tell myself I will talk to her the next time she comes into the record store. I'll ask her about what she is buying or what did she think of the previous record. Then we can share our musical tastes. I could recommend her something special. Maybe she will invite me over so we can listen to the record she will leave with. Maybe we will both like it and listen to it again and again, lying on the floor, side by side.
