My hearts for this week. Unfortunately, I can't access my dashboard again, so I probably won't be seeing as many RECords this week. Still, let me know what's going on, k? ;)
2 days of planning, 24 hours of downloads and 3 days of editing and here we are!
This is draft 1 of my re:Cities remix. I wanted to make it seem cohesive, but also leave it open ended enough so that it could promote discussion and debate, rather than being the final version of the results of the collab. I think so much more could be incorporated into this, so I would reallllyyy appreciate any feedback you guys could give me! Good or bad ^__^
Please be patient with me as I try to find all the records I use...it could take a while!!
<3
I took someone eles's remix and added drums... Shocker!
Here's a little stop-motion video I made to accompany Vickie's beautiful song based on Wirrow's tiny story, "things." I am VERY much a beginner at stop motion - my skils have a long way to go, and my recording setup is Macgyver-esque at best... I'm generally happy with the scattered, dreamy feel this has, and Vickie's song is just so perfect. :)
I don't know if it's just me but I find, given the mass quantitiy of RECords on hitRECord, some unknown, amazing and wonder pieces I like to call hitRECord's lost gems, find themselves lost in the server of hitRECord. For a while I've been tying to think of a way to showcase some of those lost creations.
As a child I played a game known as La Lotería. Some might commonly know it as a Bingo style game from Mexico; though I grew up in Central America.
La Lotería is a picturegram game played on a Tabla = a board with a randomly created 4x4 grid of pictures with their corresponding names and numbers. In total there are 54 images.
To play, a dealer called El Cantor, has a deck of 54 cards with each of those images. El Cantor picks a card and calls it out; usually rhyming some kind of riddle. Instead of bingo chips, some will use small rocks or beans; I grew up using dried corn kernels.
Anyway... in attempting to come up with something that would showcase a few of those lost jewels whose love got lost in the server, I came up with hitRECord's La Lotería.
I used all the corresponding numbers with their names and tried to match as many as possible to their actual meaning: there are a few i took some liberty with due to not being able to find them.. maybe a few of you will have better luck. :)
Believe it or not finding these pieces proved to be the hardest. To give my own 2 cents... I wish the browse section was arranged similar to the collaboaration pages... when they have a high volume, pages are listed on the bottom, as well as being able to arrange them oldest to newest... that would be awesome.
Hopefully you'll enjoy and continue to add on with your own hidden lost gems.
If any one wants the list of the names of all 54 or the psd files, just let me know. I figured why add more to the server if not needed.
Here's another Space Travel RESource that I've been working on. I've been using some of the fantastic NASA Public Domain images that you can find here http://pds-imaging.jpl.nasa.gov/ and experimenting with 3D and animation in After Effects. Audio by Josh Beck.

Just a tune I had in my head...
fractaldust's story was so great I had to do something with it! and Ryan Patrick's song just fits it perfectly
I loved this song, so I did an a cappella cover of it with the help of the lovely Tia Fischer!
And now for something completely different... :P
Lyrics
I’m putty in your hands
Putty that sticks in your pocket
Cos you forgot it
I’m a ragdoll waiting to be tucked in by your side
Wouldn’t it to be nice to go outside?
Wouldn’t it if be nice if I didn’t have to hide in your basement?
In your basement
You got me in a living trance in this flawed romance
Although my brain says no well my mouth says oh oh oh
I’ll be your doll if you want it
Love you all night long if you want it
I’m begging you, baby please don’t deflate me I’m a little superficial but please don’t hate me
I’m your polythene honey
I’m a lover dropped off by the mailman
On sale, man
I’m your permanent partner, my heart will never degrade
Wouldn’t it be nice to go outside?
Wouldn’t it be nice if I didn’t have to hide in your basement?
In your basement
You got me in a living trance in this flawed romance
Although my brain says no well my mouth says oh oh oh
I’ll be your doll if you want it
Love you all night long if you want it
I’m begging you, baby please don’t deflate me
I’m a little superficial but please don’t hate me
Oh oh oh
Wanna dance like all the cool kids that are too cool to dance? Listen to this song then.
This is a song I wrote a month or so back,. I tossed around a few ideas and finally settled on this as being the version I was happy with. It is instrumental so there is room for voice... whatever.
I would really like to see a video story develop out of it as I feel as though this song, while simple, feels as though it moves through stages, as one would move through life. The opening sequence feels a bit like a baby getting his/her legs and starting to explore the world as it grows. With the timpani accompaniment, the climax of the song feels like the tumultous time of adolescence and on into adulthood, everything is just moving and life is hectic until the end when time stands still for a moment: the birth of the now adult's own child. That's what it feels like to me when I listen to it.
I'm actually in the process of animating this in After Effects. I'll be to Joe's reading and my score. We'll see how it goes; just wanted to let you know what I been doin. The animation should be ready sometime next week.
Side note (and this goes for the short as well), to all the RECorders whose contributions were used, I WILL reference every single one... but gimme a minute. LOL. Its a lot to sort through. Thanks for your patience.

I was messing with some terrible fucking synths, so I decided to make a terrible fucking song. Forgive me.
A song I wrote for nobody
When I wrote this song, I had Erik Saties Gymnopedie playing in my left ear on repeat the entire time. That song is absolutely gorgeous
you guys.. make me so happy <3
This is just a first draft-I know people are still putting up videos. I REALLY want to have people talking about their RECollections, but it's hard with music in the videos-so if you guys could upload versions without music, I would love you forever. Also, there were a few videos that I couldn't get to work with my computer, and I wasn't able to change the format of, so I couldn't use them. I'll do more drafts of this as more people upload their footage.
One last request-I'd REALLY love to have everyone holding up their RECollections and saying "again by heart." If not, that's cool, but it was just an idea I had.

Hey HITRECORD Community! Here's a piece of music I did a while ago. I'm very new to this site so I'm not sure about alot of things but I hope you enjoy the music!

I don't know why I was talking in a high, squeaky voice through parts of it. Oy!
The original idea for this song was a light. In the middle of a dark room, swinging on it's wire. Everywhere light hit, the wall would disolve and reveal outer space, until there was no room left at all
My (rather lengthy) review of the RECollection (plus a few rambles about my special button and a dream I had last night).
And now for something completely different.

There is a lot of things going on in my life these days, and I found myself dreaming a lot at night, while I am sleeping, but also, sometimes, I am daydreaming about a lot of things, and well, since I am at HR, I always come here to express my feelings and fortunately I always found amazing records to remix that help me to translate my feelings through art. I hope you like it guys!
This is something that just popped in my head. The chord progression sounds kinds like a 50's song to me a little. I don't even know where I got the title from and I dont have lyrics yet, so any suggestions are welcome. If somebody who is good on guitar wants to redo it or add to it feel free. I am going to work on lyrics and vocals myself, but maybe someone elses idea is better, we will see :)
I walked the entire line at the Amoeba show and asked everyone if they were on hitrecord or not.

Just thought I'd share where I RECord and where I get my inspiration most of the time. On a typical day, I sit down, stare out this window, and play the piano as long as I can.
I haven't cleaned my house in a couple of weeks (eek!), so things are getting pretty dusty. And I noticed this morning that a spider has made a new home on top of my piano, so I decided to film it instead of cleaning it.
I was originally just planning to upload this footage with no audio for others to use and edit, but it was really really boring, so at the last minute, I decided to add a couple of my songs that were written in this very spot. But please, feel free to use this footage for whatever you like, I'm definitely not a video editor!

I don't know what to say about htis one. I don't really know how to write music that well but I think I may have stumbled onto something cool with this one. Or maybe it's horrible and this will get deleted off the site.
It could use some vocals. Also it could use a good mix down. If anyone wants the stems for remixing just let me know and I'll put them up.
The song consists of ukulele, toy piano, xylaphone, harmonica and an acoustic guitar used as a bass.
"SootyPaws is just the cat next door and he's in love" -
A perverse new character i've created, who'll soon have some new friends hehe! Hope you enjoy - the humour is dark and weird (so if your easily offended avoid) It imagines life - unapolagetically through the eyes of a cat.
For remixing and collab, id love if folks wanted to have a go making a short 15 second theme song for SootyPaws, that i could use as an intro and outtro!
A song about a one-sided chipmunk relationship. Trying something...err...different!
(Ps. I can upload the non-chipmunk version too if anyone wants!)
Today he wore purple, my favourite shade
And that was my favourite song that he played
I know that he winked at me when he walked by
Although you say it was just dirt in his eye
His friend's sister's boyfriend said my hair was lovely
And that's how I know that he loves me
We're like Romeo and Juliet
And just cos he doesn't know my name yet
Doesn't mean that we're not meant to be
It's so easy to see that he loves me
He wrote me a letter, anonymously
Put it on the internet for all to see
He's so understanding, he knows that I'm shy
You ask why he left out my name – well that's why
He likes to be cryptic, so he writes me stories
And that's how I know he adores me
You gotta look between the lines
He'ssending me love letters all of the time
If you just read the seventh word in every tweet
You'll see that he's swept off his feet
He could call if he wanted, but phones are passe
And, anyway, he talks to me every day
In our own secret code only we understand
Us modern day lovers don't need to hold hands
See he threw a big party and I was invited
So I know that my love's requited
This is the RE: Vinyl video that we played at Amoeba Music Hollywood on September 20th, 2011. It's a simple cutdown of the version that played in San Francisco but with a little Latyrx thrown in.

This is a new mix of The Final Poem, sung beautifully by ChaneleyWelly, with strings performed by hamishramsay. This is an off-shoot of Life is But a Dream (Midnight Mix) seeing as it uses the same chord structure and piano. There are a lot of different things going on here than Life is But a Dream (most notably the absence of Row Your Boat . . . ) Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy this new(ish) piece!
The air is crisp The blankets warm
My mind is perplexed My mind is a storm
The cog has been chipped The wheels have not turned
The conducter has quit Information just learned
The sweat, it is sweet And his touch, well it burns
As the pulse speeds and quickens The heart beats and yerns
His breath on my skins My voice in his head
My body it quivers From the words he just said
Heard the song, had to sing to it, even though I am getting over a cold and my voice is not at the top of its game. A billion thank yous to Metaphorest for doing the final mix, because I can't mix for love or money.
Lyrics:
I'm alone and that's how I like it
Cause when you're alone no one leaves you crying
I've spent all my life running from boys like you
'Cause I'm afraid of the things that you could make my heart do
Don't say those words, I don't think you'd mean them
If you knew the promise implied between them
I've been broken with words coming from boys like you
And I'm afraid of the things that you could make my heart do
Things you make my heart do
Be careless, be thoughtless, be callous, be reckless, be cruel
I can take anything but sweetness from a boy like you
My heart is a delicate creature I've built walls around
I try to resist but you're Jericho's horn and my walls
They come crashing down
My walls come crashing down
my friend learned how to breathe fire last summer. no shit.
Tomorrow September 23 is my birthday, and because this place is very special for me and I have amazing friends here, I came to share with you this collage of pictures from when I was a little girl, I just want to say that it's been a wonderful year, full of everything, good and bad things, but I am alive, I am healthy, I am happy and most important, I have an amazing family and wonderful friends, including you all, so thanks for been so special and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!! :o)
The lyrics in this song were made up of most of the titles of the different records featured in the Recollection.
This kind of turned into like an 80's synthy hip pop song or something. I back it though.
