RECords that were inspired by (born out of) the hitRECord community in some way and/or reMIXes of other users' wonderful RECords.
The idea of "losing love" made me think of the risk and gamble of Love, so a playing card seemed like an appropriate treatment. And then I thought, "How can you make sure that you 'never found it (love) in the first place,' other than by blinding yourself to the world?"
I reMixed erikabyamaguchi's illustration (blinded) for kait-allen's tiny story (lost & found.) Hope you both like it.
so afraid was i of losing love,
that i made sure i never found it in the first place.
Not that Sarah Frances's beautiful doodle needed to be remixed, but it reminded me of some ocean waves I had done, and then I got curious about how they'd look remixed together.
For MattConley's request/suggestion: ["* Take the clip of the Grandma (from the "Audition 3" resource) and add a grandma costume (bonnet, etc.) to give her more of a grandma look for that establishing shot. Personally, I think the cheesier and cruder the animation, the better."]
I was going to do something more colorful but too much detail or color took away from the actress and her little candid improv performance for the camera, which is too cute, so I kept it simple. Plus, the rest of this piece will be loud with color and detail anyways. Agree?
Feedback/Thoughts?
A side idea I had: Since it is pretty clean-black around her, maybe a fun handwritten "grandma" and playful arrows pointing at her too? But again, I don't want to add too much distraction from her cuteness, and the clip is so short, so maybe this is fine as-is?
"ZZZzzzzzzz..." The background floral pattern is actually my own grandma's wallpaper ;^)
I know this is beyond late for a Sundance possibility, but when I watched Dr. Gory's video composition I knew that I really wanted to make my own version of "and a new earth…" (REPRISE) At least for my own animation and video editing practice.
Thank you to everyone for their amazing contributions, the hitRECord creativity shines throughout this piece. There were so many wonderful resources* to choose from and use.
This was a lot of work, especially touching up a lot of the text images to make them key correctly, but a lot of fun too. And I learned a lot through the work.
What do you think? Please post comments/crits.
[*NOTE: SO MANY Resources! - Please let me know if I missed any. ]
My grandparents were moved into an assisted living facility last year. Before they moved out of their house, a house they lived in since before I was born, I went around and took photos. At first, I found myself taking the normal photos people would take, but then I found myself taking pictures of textures and patterns. I took close-up photos of peeling paint on their porch, cracks in ceiling, faded wallpaper, tiled floors, pattens my grandma's dresser drawers, old carpets, knitted blankets and pillows, etc. I didn't know what I was going to do with them... and then today I made this.
This is made out of the textures and patterns I collected, it represents the sadness I feel for their fleeting years but also the hope for the time I have left with them.
My grandma is in-and-out of it these days, there have been moments of dementia, so I tried to represent puzzle pieces of her life fading with the background treatments. She was always a crafter and she made me things all the time; the center of the flowers are a blanket she made for me. My grandpa is totally 100% with-it still, his mind is solid, but his body hasn't been living up to his ambitions. His hands have become difficult to use for him that he can no longer garden. He used to have the most beautiful flowers growing around their house.
So, yeah, I made this for them as the first of a series. I plan to make many more pieces soon. And I also started a Collaboration based on this concept for others to join in - "A garden for our grandparents" - http://hitrecord.org/records/666978
Please do <3
A screenshot reMIX from an Independence Conversation with RegularJoe, Parker Posey & DaperDan.
This is kind of random. I was planning on making a more serious reMIX (at least in tone since they were talking about religion and all) but as I worked on it I realized it was Parker's quote that hit me the most from this clip, so I underscored that instead.
I adore ChristineNaderer's "and a new earth - Paper Icons" and really wanted to see how they'd look in a video, so I went for it.
However, I only had time to put half of it together. Maybe some one else wants to finish it up?
Awesome work Christine! <3
[I wasn't quite happy with the text on this one, so I tweaked it and reRECored - http://hitrecord.org/records/719816 ]
Another "off the path" kind of reMIX and an ode to René Magritte's "This is not a pipe," but in Little Red Riding Hood style.
kittypimms "the knife as a metaphor" text record brought this to my mind.
Through Midori's "Coloring Book" collab (168230) I found Anatole_baptiste's wonderful "Dhyavod - Hear his tune and your reality will transmutate" (399921). I used chariot13's "texture" (389239) album's resources to make my first reMIX contribution to the "Coloring with Collage" (733137) collab I just started ;^)
Here's a little LRRH reMIX for you. I took cacheth's awesome "...the smallest snakes" added some "fruit" and a knife from dreamcoach's illustrations, and my own wolf standing behind the bush, in the forest.
Thoughts? Maybe a little too suggestive? haha
[Low quality for review and suggestions, and I'll add high-res as needed]
"Come, Little Red Riding Hood..."
The lips should sync with audio, they're the same frame rate, but let me know it they need tweaking ;^)
"BURP!" - the wolf after eating the grandma & little red.
"they danced young again, it seems that radios are time machines."
I am actually animating these making the sequences dance between these two time periods, but it is taking a long time as I only have moments here and there to work on it, so I thought I would share the images at least.
Huge props to aimeecanto for bringing the 2 couples' illustrations together in her reMIX, which inspired my reMIXing.
Made a little remix from MukeiRoyalty's great source files, for the Electric Loss Collaboration (873508).

My interpretation of the Bear and the Winter scene in Iterations(988659). What do you think?
A quilt is laid out for the tea party they will be having, but this is before they take items down from the tea and treats trees ;^)

[let me know if i missed any resources]
I was toying with tori's "Animated Lily" between classes today. Just playing, with no real goal in mind, but thought I'd post a small collection of tests/interesting results. Who knows, a chunk here or there might serve as a interesting inter-cut element for other RECords. Enjoy!
[NOTE: If you aren't familiar, "Animated Lily" = tori constructed an animation thru a collab of multiple artists drawing keyframes of sfbakstad's lily blooming timelapse, so each image was re-drawn by a different artist, and it turned out pretty slick]
Alright, so here is my little chunk for "and a new earth (reprise)". As i said earlier:
(4) lines towards the end of "and a new earth" (reprise). I was just working on Typography, but these visuals and movements struck me, so I had to make it all happen. Use it or not, I needed to get it out of my head. My little "narcotic moment of creative bliss."
When I envision "and a new earth" (reprise) I see the film starting smooth, to adjust the audience to the display, with a slower pacing of softer visuals in longer takes (easier to grasp and follow) but as the piece builds the pacing would increase and the visuals would become more and more chaotic... hence my treatment, because I would see these lines toward the end just sort of unfolding into each other. Make sense?
I'd love to hear what you think of it? Thanks <3
[Note: I still need to add the exact resources that I used from the eye & eye album... so many! haha]
You know how much I adore Muybridge (734490) so I had to get my hand into CaptClare's "The Muybridge Leap" (1031693) with some rotoscoping fun. Hope you all like it!
Just saw CaptClare's featured "What animates you remix" (1033054) that includes her Leap record - so amazing! - maybe this rotoscope chunk could get mixed into that? That would be rad <3
A playful little loop experiment with LizSmalls "First Glances Emotion" (360229) footage. Same footage (with slight linear tweaks) is shown twice, side by side, one side mirrored and its time reversed so the END is its beginning; creating a special little encounter with oneself.
I thought Metaphotest's little tune was sort of perfect for this edit, but I cannot wait to see what others run with! Have fun <3
Motion Monsters #1
Testing out a few new After Effects tricks I have been learning. So here is a fun little test animation I made with jessolantern's "Perspective" footage (1018003) and Soupy's loveable "Frances" character (1010240).
The motion tracking is a bit rough and the lighting still needs work, but that's why this is a test animation and I am learning!
[UPDATE: I made a small series of "Motion Monsters" for a few days awhile back (this was one of them) to grow my After Effects experience and skills. Check out more of them here - http://www.hitrecord.org/records/1039562 ]
Another LONG OVERDUE challenge met while at the same time making more Monster Mashup examples ;^)
==========
adhgraphicdesign remarked:
Hey sweetie! Glad you are up for challenges! Whenever you have time can you please draw some female monsters for Monster City. The men out number them. Going to use them for the monster city spa commercial we are making :)
==================
[ I will add to appropriate collabs when the "bugs" are fixed, as well as add "circles textures" http://www.hitrecord.org/records/545128 that doesn't seem to want to attach as a resource right now.]
I remixed my own illustrations together = a snail girl + tea time.
Does anyone have a Tiny Story to support this? <3
Also, this lil' gal is available as a fun little sticker to purchase too, here - http://www.redbubble.com/people/brookeduckart/shop/stickers?ref=shop_product_refinement - Just sayin' ;^)
Here is the layered PhotoShop file that I created out of callmeishmael's watercolor illustrations to make my "This cage..." excerpt animation (1104799) for the Dr. Sweet Tooth proect.
I hope others can use this, please do! <3
I was playing around with some of the Dr. Sweet Tooth RECords. This is a fun little animation test. Lips are not actually saying anything, just playing around with facial movement.
Okay, wowzers, this took FOREVER for only 13 seconds. Damn.
I went for it and flushed out a short shot towards the end with a couple of powerful lines. The eyes are now looking around a little bit and emphasize some key words, lips are synced as close as my skills can reach, Puppet-Pins GALORE to get the facial features the way I wanted them, and added mood with lights/shadows. I would be thrilled if this was used in the final Dr. Sweet Tooth piece, but honestly this was more for myself to work out a couple of ideas I couldn't shake. I think it still needs work. Plus, maybe I went too complex?
HUGE hats-off to callmeishmael for all of his fantastic work on the character development and scenes. His artwork is so fun to work with! And to Edward Shallow for this crazy-ass World of Wonder that is starting to unfold.
Such talent. I am honored to work with you.
The elements/assets took me a couple days to finesse the way I like them for animating, so I don't want those to go to waste - I will upload the layered PhotoShop file tomorrow so that other animators can play with this scene. Please do! ;^)
GabyVaughan did such an excellent job remixing my Spirit Tree with pencil-in-hand's perfect little "cherubims." They fit perfectly together. And I loved the playfulness of where she put the little guys in the scene, just awesome.
I wanted to see what her awesome layout would look like if the Spirit Tree was kept as-is and the cherubims were more subtly added in. So, a remix of a remix. How Meta - ha!
[UPDATE: I got pulled into 3 large off-site projects for a bit, and I can't finish this off for a few... that said, it doesn't mean that other RECorders can't take a stab at adding to this and/or finishing it ;^) Go for it!]
Here's a low-res in-progess peek #2.
I am almost done, but there are a few things I want to fix up and I am thinking about adding a couple of fun elements to play outside the borders (we will see, not 100% sure on that yet) and of course I am working on a better ending transition and an ending scene, as well as the credit treatments.
What do you think so far?
[I couldn't resource Mirtle's original "Stay Away" Illustration. The link has been messed up for a bit now? http://www.hitrecord.org/records/739753]
"We carry the places we’ve been inside of us." - Symbiote
P.S. The zebra tree illustration is available on my Society6 account, sans text.

I have been waiting for a tiny story that I felt worked with theclotheshorse's awesome image. Way to go Kubi for RECording his text today! Just a shift of the eyes, and I think they pull the story into action. What do you think?
As a result of tdolan's great curation/suggestions (album 267815), I remixed Pieces (tiny story) text REmix by maryer96 (1141043) with Falling Apart by dt.nguyen (998352) and added some of my own playful additions.
What do you think?
UPDATE: I cannot seem to resource tdolan's album, so I am resourcing her profile pic. Hope that makes sense.
A little reMIX of JiuKK's cute little illustration, added another image and tweaked the prior, and then added crabapples's simple and sweet text:
"I'll help."
"You can't."
"I'll try."
