Between illness and not having a computer for the past two weeks I've been sorely lacking in my re-rec albums! So I am going back before Halloween collecting things I've loved, and not doing much discrimination about it because you all make you so damned hard to choose. Go on and pat yourselves on the back you deserve it! Without further ado, here are my belated re-recs, stay tuned for another audio one if not next week in the next few. Til next week!
legends had told that the corn maze was haunted,
but we turned every corner, together undaunted
so windblown and wishful, with sweetness naïve
we walked through the corn stalks on All Hallow's Eve
till the air gave a shiver, and terribly soon
the sun slid down quickly, and red rose the moon
our hands clasping tightly, we tangled our trail
and, pressed close we questioned: how thin was the veil?"
________________
Yup, not in order because the first picture's more difficult than this simple one, but am enjoying the crap out of illustrating JulesKD's awesome poem. :D
I fell in love with a teenage vampire
I've danced under the stars in Spain
I've been a drug addict and a compulsive liar
I've walked the trail of tears all over again
I restored a mansion in Italy
I lived in an Oklahoma WalMart alone
Van Gogh,in France, painted right beside me
A Morrocan desert jail was my home
I've lost love and I've found it again
I was gay,straight,black and white
I've been a singer in a country band
I did it all for the love of a child
Today I'm a famous Hollywood star
and after that who knows who I'll be
Through the words, through the pages I travel far
Through the stories I can be free
This time I spun and dyed my own yarn (kolaid 3:1:1/8 cherry:strawberry:grape somehow is almost identical to the rec button colour on a cream coloured base yarn). The main part of the scarf is a modified version of the sunspot stitch (from one of the Barbara Walker stitch treasuries) – it knits up a lot faster than v1 cause it's worsted/aran weight on size 8 needles and has a repeating stitch pattern.
And this pattern shouldn't be that difficult to write up if anyone is interested in making their own... please let me know and I will do that and add it as a result:)
I'm still debating embroidering “hitRECord” with one letter in each circle... but I think I might leave it as it is to be more subtle... or maybe knit it again without the heart and then do that...
Hi everyone. I don't know how appropriate it is to share a sentimental and personal story as a RECord so forgive me for being sentimental & personal...it is hitRECord related!
My girlfriend has been pregnant now for, erm, I'd say about 9 months give or take a day. Our due date was the 7th Nov 2011, now hopefully you understand when I say that I got excited, probably for the wrong reasons, but since March I have had my heart set on the birthdate 11.11.11.
Some people understood my excitement and anticipation, others were like "What you on about, it's just a date?". My whole life I have had a weird affilation with certain numbers (as you can probably tell from my hitRECord name) & even before hitRECord was in my life the date 11.11 has always been special. My Mother, who is a twin, was born on 11.11.55 (also a cool date because it is one of the actual days that Michael J Fox went back to the past in 'Back to the Future', 5th Nov - 12th Nov 1955 fact fans).
My sister was then born on 11.11.88, that in itself was pretty cool. So hopefully you can see why I was so excited by the prospect of having my son born on 11.11.11.
Now lets cut to the chase, I'm sure you can see from the image above that he was in fact born yesterday 10.11.11 (perfectly healthy & very cute, thanks for asking). Apart from being ecstatic, proud and many other cliches, I was slightly disappointed at him missing out on the full house of 11's (which is also my lucky number by the way because I was born on 11.08.81). But then something else astounded me, something I had never actually considered because I had been so preoccupied with the birthdate.
After an hours hard work by my girlfriend, the baby's head popped out and the midwife exclaimed "Oooo the baby's head is out, 12.42". Now obviously she wasn't a hitRECorder and was not referring to me, she was referring to the time.
Baby Ethan was then born at 12.43 (check out the time on his band!). Now I'm not really religious but I do love the idea of fate and/or extreme coincidences & I loved that.
My conclusions...Ethan is a future hitRECorder, who once I have taught After Effects & Final Cut will be known as '12.43 son of 12.42' or 12.43 for short...but I'd give it a couple of months, he can't even talk yet. <3
This is a sea shanty called, obviously, Rolling Down to Old Maui. For some reason I got the urge to record a sea shanty. Didn't really know any. Don't know that anybody in the world is at home saying, hey, I wish somebody would cover a sea shanty, Looked a few up and this one intrigued me because of the sound and story. It's public domain.
Et voilà, mes chéris....Inspired by this mysterious night. Again by heart <3
A few months back Matt [TheMorningHollows] and I were trying to work on a song based around this tune that Matt wrote. I never could get the vibe quite right, so it lay dormant for a few months. But I recently read Lula's "Puppycat" and thought HEYYYY THAT COULD WORK!
So here it is...a jazzy, raucous 1920's New York jazz club, smoke filled bar version of "Puppycat"
Would anyone like to add to it?!
After a little hitRECord tinychat….the lovely pamagotchi got me inspired to start singing again on HitRECord (can’t remember the last time I did) soo here’s me having fun.
P.S. I sound like an old ladyy bahaha<3
Halloween was awesome! And Thanksgiving is on the prowl! So I say... ON WITH THE FESTIVITES!!
(a little children's song I wrote. feel free to sing along.) ;)
lyrics:
Halloween you did alright! But now it’s time we say goodnight!
Hop on the old November Bus! Pumpkin Pie for all of us!
I wanna be a Turkey, I wanna be a Turkey, Nothing you say can hurt me, cause I wanna be a Turkey
(la da la da la)
I’m gonna eat some Turkey Legs, I’ll have leftovers for 30 days,
I’ll eat so much I’ll never stop, I don’t care if my belly pops,
A Turkey can gobble and so can I, I’ll gobble my way to the Rhubarb Pie,
The Mac and Cheese has caught my eye, the cranberries oh my, oh my,
I wanna be a Turkey, I wanna be a Turkey, Nothing you say can hurt me, cause I wanna be a Turkey
(la da la da la)
Thanksgiving is what we Long for….. long for, and it’s here!
(La la la la)
Happy Thanksgiving!
So Chelsea.e Recorded this awesome cheer stomp beat thingy and I put a couple of layers of guitar and bass over it. It's kind of raw and in your face. Plenty of room for remixing if you like it.
So I made this entirely on an iPad, using only the Apple Loops in Garageband. Is that allowed, like using the Apple Loops?
Kinda makes me dance i.e shake my head like a retard.
I don't know if the intention of Joe's voice over recording was just to give us variations to choose & edit but I loved the repetition of it and it sounded to me like some sort of song...so I've made it into one using theboxsets drum beat!
I now imagine this story of Wirrow's to be about some HAL like computer stuck in a perpetual loop until it malfunctions. <3
Here is a recording with multiple people. I don't have the equipment to do much more than cut tracks apart, so you are able to tell the difference in microphone quality between the people.
The idea was that as HitRECorders we are always going back through each other’s work and remixing it and RegularJOE's job is to push us to continue doing it. The voices start out on their own and then become collaborative at the end.
I really like this idea, but I do think it could be executed better with better equipment. If someone would like to take this and improve/change it an anyway that would be great!
**I believe I am missing one resource. I can't seem to find it. If you notice your voice in here resource your recording to this and I will go back and add you. Thanks!**
*I have submitted a work request for one or more of my RECords. To see mine as well as others please go to the Help CompletRECord Project collab at http://hitrecord.org/records/559099
Was unsure about putting this up but then again I'm a derp so make what you will of it.
This is a verrrry rough recording on my ipad of what I have so far with my Fall Love Song. Please ignore all of my "do do do's" and "la de da's", I still need more lyrics if anyone would like to make some suggestions, right now I write about one line a day, so it might be winter by the time I finish! Anyway, i would love to see if anyone has any ideas for lyrics or arrangements besides just the piano. I'm really curious to see how this would sound with a guitar or something instead, but I lack the skills :(
Chords used are (in no particular order) C, Am, G, and F, and Fm once I think.
in looking for some music to add to my tiny music for tiny films folder, i found this little piece of sound and thought it suited this Tiny Story. Now all we need is some images...
also added the instrumental RECord here, in case you want to REmix it, or use another VO reading over it.

i love absolutely every element of "CosmicSnow Trapeze" by PonderGoblin & wanted to add another layer to it & give it an extra cosmic feel!
During the Wirrow Mask Making Party, I decided that I wanted to test out my macbook and see how it handled recording lengthy bits of footage. I believe only 3 people in the room knew that they were being recorded continuously since I purposefully had turned my screen off for this process.
This is 5 hours and 14 minutes of mask making shenanigans squished into a little under 4 minutes. Enjoy :)
Here's some raw footage of the Gloams Pumpkin I carved today! I tried to shoot from several different angles, please feel free to use bits and pieces in any last minute Halloween records! or maybe a few seconds can even make their way into the Halloween Show Intro Video??
thanks to Day Glo for his feedback. :) my dad also gave me some feedback, so the animation now has:
*more leaves rustling
*more owl rustling
*a longer pause at the end
*some blinking
and a few other bits to make it less static in some parts. :D
no audio, because I can't make the audio go directly into Flash in any way that makes sense, and the video gets so compressed when I import it to iMovie... :C
hope you enjoy these revisions! <3
This trapeze piece is inspired by johnnyclyde's gorgeous SNOW SONG and alpal's video Reverse Snow. It's my best attempt at trying to look like snow falling upward.
I did another version set to Metaphorist's lovely reading of Fractaldust's text Cosmic Significance and Johnnyclyde's Snow Song. It's called Cosmic Significance Trapeze.
I like both versions for different reasons :)
right. Eskapurla made a gorgeous illustration comic to thedustdancestoo's "summer hobby" tiny story. I took that illustration and ran away with it, cackling into the sunset. you know, like I usually do.
largely inspired by ozie's comment about how the subject could be anyone -- from a boy who loves stars, to a mad scientist collecting fireflies. I went with something in between and more than a little out there. :D I know Joe wanted wirrow's remix for the animation, but I just really loved Eskapurla's comic. also it worked better with the ideas in my brain.
I'll upload a version with Day Glo's VO and ozie's score in a moment.
my mother really wanted there to be irony in this... you tell me? (gotta love her)
on another note: why does exporting take sooooo loooooong to get riiiiiight i just want to shoot myself D:
A Story in Wishes
When I made the request for 11/11/11 wishes, I genuinely thought I would have a handful of responses to play around with in the short time I had available. To my utter delight, nearly 90 responses later, I have cut together what I hope is a fitting tribute to the words and wishes of a varied and talented group of HitREcorders.
In the end, the success was my downfall: I simply didn't have enough time to fully carry out the idea I had in the short space of time. But the more I edited the wish videos, the more I realised that in fact the videos speak for themselves: they speak of hope, courage, remembrance, sadness, fear, happiness, determination. My little collage, my little fingerprint in bringing you all together in a single picture became an after thought.
To everyone who contributed, my very deepest thanks. Your courage and inspiration were truly wonderful to work with.
My 11/11 wish is for this community to keep spreading it's wings, and to forever endeavour to create, achieve and inspire.
I hope that, even in some small measure, all your wishes come true <3
PS: on a lighter note, I hope no one is creeped out by my red stained hands [paint] and the fact that I have lots of your faces on a wall gathered round a bright red circle! <3
PPS: currently trying to resource LOTS of names, some of whom sent videos by email and I wasn't sure of their HitREcord name. If you sent me a video and don't see a resource, please let me know! I used every single one I received :D <3
