I felt Day Glo hit the nail on the head with one of his takes of "Goblin Ears." I was eager to mix in his voice over and sort of create a first version of this Tiny Film.

The "VO REquest" is resourced below, so anyone can upload their reading. This first version will help provide the timing of some of the visual cues, so it would be best to watch this while doing any readings.

Hello all! While sifting through the different content on hitRECord I came across the Shadow collab concept we're batting around and it got my brain rolling with ideas. I haven't looked at the hundreds of materials that have already been put online (there's so much everyone has already contributed!). I've always found the best way to make sure an idea gets produced is to just go with it and ask questions later, so that's what I did here. If it ends up that my idea isn't something we could use, oh well, I had fun working on it.

In particular, I had a character concept come to mind. The character is reminiscent of a comic book villain, but I think has enough personality that it could be adapted to another medium. I worked on four pages for a sort of introductory story and have decided I'd like to upload those as well as give some background info on the character.

The antagonist is named "Doctor Crepsla" which is a play on the word 'crepuscular' (of or resembling twilight) and Nikola Tesla (who some would have called a kind of mad scientist, though not necessarily as much so as Crepsla). In a nutshell, Crepsla is a Fauxbeam mad scientist with a purpose. The shadow of a lab-bound scientist, Crepsla has existed perpetually for an inderminate amount of time, isolated from other Fauxbeams as the environment he is in never ceases to be lit and never experiences sunlight or moonlight (think underground bunker). The time he has had to himself has given him much opportunity for contemplation and it appears the perpetuity of his existence has granted him more vigor than normally attributed to the Fauxbeams. He considers his people to be disenfranchised, consigned by fate to exist in an undesirous state, looked down upon by other shadows and unable to inhabit the Shadow World or exist in the true light of the sun. He seeks to change the balance, to revenge his kind on other shadows and even Nature itself.

Using shadow devices created by objects in the laboratory he is in, Crepsla events an apparatus from which he is able to craft a device he calls a "Soal". The Soal is an artificial sun about the size of a coal. In the same way regular shadows are invigorated by the sun, so are Fauxbeams given greater vitality by the Soal. It is his plan, with the help of his fellow Fauxbeams, to wipe the real sun from the sky and replace it with the Soal. Of course a few humans will die - lives sacrificed for the cause. Of course the other shadows will be forever resigned to the Shadow World - serves them right. With Soal in hand, he reaches towards a better and brighter future... for the Fauxbeams!

And, that's it so far. I attached the pages that I managed to finish while doing the little introductory bit for him this weekend. I figured I better put them up now or I may never do so, lol. I hope they load well and that people like them. Obviously, my story has a notable level of scientific impossibility. However, we are talking about sentient shadows so I think I'm well within the limitations of the realm, lol. Please, comment, discuss and collab! Peace!

I Put togethert a little animation for this tiny story here. After watching this I think I'm gonna redo it and tighten up the background a little bit because it looks a little sloppy. But this is a decent first pass. Any other ideas to better this animation?

However, sometimes it's interesting to work backwards. I was wondering what it would be like to start with the image and work toward the story.     With that in mind, I drew this, leaving the story pretty open. It's be awesome if any of the more writerly of hitrecord would be interested in penning a (pretty short) science fiction story to go along with this illustration. Did something for C.McCarthy's Anxious Dreamer.

The first thing I thought of when I read that tiny story was a hand trying to grab hold of the dreams. Then when I was drawing, I decided I wanted to show the sleeper, as well as her looking out at all her dreams. So I drew two representations of the dreamers.

All the 'dreams' that you see in there are some of the dreams I recall having when I was younger. I counted sheeps and dreamed of sheeps, and always the flying pigs, of castles and magic, and once, a world where love grows on trees and people visited it for.

Wonderful little story, I think. :D

Favorite Hitrecorder: Metaphorest

There is a lot of fantastic hitrecorders in this community, singers, photographers, “remixers”, writers, video editors;  I have to say that I can call “friend” to a lot of you, we have amazing artists here, so  it was very hard for me to choose just one person as my favorite hitrecorder, but at the end, I chose Metaphorest for a lot of reasons: she is amazing, she is always supporting me and everyone else, she is very talented, creative and the most important thing, she is a wonderful person, she was one of the first hitrecorders that I met when I joined Hitrecord for the first time the last year, and she was very supportive and nice with me, so thanks meta for always been such a wonderful person and I am so glad that I can call you my friend, keep doing your magic, I am proud of you and I am sure that you are always going to succeed because you are just AMAZING and you deserve the best! The lovely and now very famous shadows, I just remember when Soupy and Attilee started to talk about the Shadows at the Tiny Chat, they started to talk about the different type of shadows and we all agreed that they have to start a collab, and voilà the shadows were created and since that day, they are being an important part of this community, I love everything about this little guys so the Shadow Beings collab is my favorite. Hitrecord on Halloween

Halloween, one of my favorite holidays of the year, and RegularJOE made a collab about this spooky and scary day, there were a lot of fantastic collaborations, videos, music, pictures, remixes, and we also had an event at New York City the Halloween night, so, this was my favorite event-Holiday so far, I think that we all enjoyed making spooky records and having fun at the event and at the site.

It was one of my favorite collaborations this year, the Black Book magazine Collab, a lot of people contribute with fantastic remixes, pictures and drawings but this one was my favorite, Bree made this amazing remix of one of joe’s pictures and this was the result, ohh and she have 508 hearts, awesome isn’t it?, this is a fantastic and very well done editing, in fact this was featured at the magazine. Another world by saintmaker: Saintmaker is not only a published author but also he is a fantastic photographer, he has a lot of wonderful pictures and texts at Hitrecord, but this one is my favorite and also is my favorite of 2011, this picture is breathtaking and the colors are just perfect, these are probably some of the reasons why this picture has 63 hearts. :o) It was uploaded on October 15, 2011.

This is my great-great grandparent's 50th Anniversary picure.

Since we're still having some problems with the dashboard and recommendations page, I think that making re-recommendation albums and videos have become even more important than usual because they're a great way for us to find records we may have missed. 

I thought I'd make a tutorial explaining some of the nuts and bolts of re-RECing in general, and then talk about how I make my re-REC vids.

If view 1 is a group of kids playing king of the hill, this view is how THEY imagine the game.

When I heard both aszarkowski and themetafictionist's fantastic readings of A New Earth, I thought it might be interesting to try to line them up and have a double-female reading.

I don't usually edit audio, but I figured out how to chop them both up and re-align them to each other — and also brought back in some of the machine-style aesthetics.

It's a Christmas Song! Kind of...Thanks to Kat and Shugs for the music, and Reverie for the first verse :)
