I am starting my RE-REcs for Sunday now because if I don't I will be looking for the stuff forever because I recommend a lot. Anyway, I will be adding to this album from now through Sunday kinda like how jesterlady does it, the bad ass RE-RECer that she is :)
I was going to do two readings: one deadpan, one dramatic, but ended up with one sort of in between. Since I imagine the new video will sample a variety of different voices rather than just using one, thought I'd put it up as it is.
Calling all Vocal Artists, all Audio Mixers, all Video Editors!
You might know our record "and a new earth", it is definitely one of the most impactful short films to have come out of HITRECORD and we play it at all of our shows. And I was thinking that Sundance 2012 is a great reason for us to make another version of it!
I absolutely love the original, it's a beautiful piece both in style and in substance. wirrow wrote the text and set it to a timelapse from the site while adding an instrumental track that he had made. The simplicity of it is what makes it so impactful. (here is the link to the original or you can check the resources below. http://hitrecord.org/records/141257)
But I've always wondered what it would be like if we took it to the next step because I feel this piece is really conducive to our mass collaborative creative process.
So here's what to do:
Once again, the original is so beautiful in it's simplicity that I believe this can be equally as strong in it's multiplicity. And I wanna screen it at Sundance... so let's get to work.
So I had an amazing year on HitRECord. I saw some amazing art get made and I was lucky enough to be a part of some amazing things. I put this video together to kind of just compile my year's work and also say thank you to all the wonderfull recorders that I have worked with and those of you who have inspired me.
Tell me what your year was like on HitRECord. Make a video and add it to the collaboration.
A dreamy lil story song
Down by the river
I slept like a fisherman’s son
On a slow day for salmon
Down by the river
I dreamed I was swimming
Along with the fishes
Downstream to the shimmering ocean
The water turned salty
My gills had come faulty
I swam to the surface and spluttered
Down by the river
Then saw of all things
That I had grown wings
Upwards, then, I fluttered
Soaring above it all
I heard the seagulls call
“Look, there, she’s an imposter”
Down by the river
I tumbled to the ground
They put the message out
“Oh no, we have lost her”
And when I came to
My clothes were wet through
Was it a dream after all?
Down by the river
Well, you all know that I love to add colors to the black and white drawings, and since I saw this one, I knew that I have to do something with this! So I decide to make a remix, I hope you all like this!
Well here is Life. I didn't have time to finish the video, but I'm sure others can do it way better if they so choose! Now I am off on my journey
this photo was my test run onto hitRECord - it was the first thing i ever uploaded. i then made it my avatar as it is both one of my favorite and most defining photographs. :)
i'm leaving the initial statement i had posted which was:
the lighting is just the sun- there is almost no photoshop done. curious to see where it goes.
I bought you a Thesaurus so you could use it to come up with different ways of telling me you're sorry.
Instead, I use it to find different ways of telling you to get lost.
Agh, I haven't made anything here since forever D:
But the turnip head project caught my attention, so I made a little something.
He's fun to draw, so I might just make some more drawings of him :]
here's "for the love of turnip head" colored! a little bit of watercoloring completed between my time on campus and dinner earlier.
watercolor and micron pens.
Without a doubt, the single most peculiar aspect of my life is the flashing shock so vivid and disturbing that it has stained my conscience into adult...
ghosts of you are
through the walls and
goodnight sweet princes and princesses,
may flights of angels with umbrellas shield your sacred heads from rain
as you flow sweetly on your way.
our lives will never be the same..
Tori, you may not know this; but one of the first records I ever made was a poem called the Juggler. Based off of your amazing animation. So you were one of the first recorders I ever saw on here. It really made me want to stay on HR after I became a member. Hope you enjoy this little Christmas gift!
This girl’s like an epiphany, giving my mind a symphony, of Orchestrated slightly rotated Artistic Victory,
The rest is kind of History, we all wanna know HERstory,
You mess with this girl and we’ll write your Eulogy in a Hursery.
I got the Merry Christmas Fever, The one where I tell Tori that she made me a Believer,
Her Presence is like Christmas, talkin day, and not the EVE’r,
This recorder is a Keeper, even trees wouldn’t Leave her,
The pain wouldn’t linger when the Bees tried to Sting her,
Cause they found that she sweeter than a natural Honey Feeder,
She’s like a mind reader, I can tell she is a leader,
She could lead me into battle til’ I’m greeted by the Reaper,
Oh yeah! Forgot it’s Christmas he’s a Candy Cane Creature,
And he’s crying cause it sucks LolliPop Goes The Weeper,
When talent hits my eye like a sweet piece of pie that’s A’Tori,
Making records in her laboratory,
I promise you, that you will always have our true Amore,
I wanna hear some More’y, of your awesome life story,
So we need to get recordin’ someone call the Dr. Gory,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TORI!!
Put together a Tiny Film for MadisenMusic's "Sleep Contrast" Tiny Story.
I would like to tighten up the intro with the couple. I'll probably cut from them in the two shot and maybe silhouette the backs of their heads with a reworked composition of the TV. The hand-holding is a bit distracting I think and doesn't really establishinsomnia in any waY.
When the Lumber Jack took a work break, for a brief afternoon nap; the tree grabbed the chainsaw, and cut the Lumber Jack in half. ....Side note, I'm not that great at giving gifts hahaha
Brook's Magic Kingdom I was delighted to find Brookduckart was my Secret Santa pick. You know how much I love your work ( by how much I remix and recommend it :) ) so it was a great chance to have another look at your records and remix some again. Hope you have a loveky holiday seasonX Marlene
This is elayne's line work, which I liked very much, and I felt totally impelled to try putting some colour with it. And I'm really hoping it comes out ok!
Let's make an animated short film out of Metaphorest's darkly delightful short text and Gary Oldman's glorious live performance of it. First step is to design the main character. ILLUSTRATORS: let's see your version of this guy. He should be a prim and proper, buttoned up, completely normal looking man EXCEPT for his turnip head.
Once we've got the main character, we can start creating the other elements that will make up the settings and scenes, animate them, scoring the piece, editing it together, etc...
I wanna screen this at our upcoming Sundance show, so we're on a bit of a tight deadline, but between the lot of us, I think we'll be good.
This started out all pink and fluffy... and then I think my inner tomboy couldn't deal with it and it took a slightly "hellish" turn O_o I have no idea...
JESTERLADY - A Poem
I'd like to say a few words about Jesterlady
That I'm sure you'd like to hear
Always with a smile on her face
And a flower tucked behind her ear
She is so supportive of others
And has so much love to share
We eagerly wait for her weekly albums
To see if our RECords are there
When we are sad and need comforting
She'll give us a hug to brighten our day
If we are in darkness
Like a beacon of light, she'll show us the way
She doesn't see anything wrong
With foxes and bunnies holding hands
Whenever raindrops fall
She can hear them tap dance where they land
She organized the skeletons in her closet
One lazy afternoon
Jesterlady would love to travel the world
Holding onto a little red balloon
That we find that special someone in our life
Is her heartfelt wish
And so, in this joyous season, Dear Jesterlady,
I would like to tell you this
Your wonderful words of encouragement
I'm really so grateful for
HitRECord would not be the same
Without you inspiring me to do more
Even though I live in India
From you that is so far away
Distances are insignificant
As I send you love on this Christmas day
I am so blessed to know you
Thank you for being my friend
Please know that whenever you are in need
On me you can always depend
I don't know how to make a video
Illustrating is something I can't do
I hope these words can convey
The love and respect I have for you....
MERRY CHRISTMAS JESTERLADY!!
When I was told by Kat that my Secret Santa friend was Jesterlady, I was excited and nervous at the same time because I didn't know what I was going to do. I went through most of Jesterlady's Reel and used the tiny stories she has written.
P.S. The snowman was drawn by my niece, I painted it on glass ;D
I'm not satisfied with this... It doesn't look depressing enough. I'll do more sketches and illustrations.
*he's shaving in the first image. haha
This is my concept board for The Man With A Turnip for a Head.
I don't know why, but I imagined a a 30's dandy style of clothing would really suit the Turnip man. I think that basically if everything was in a 1930s style it'd be more appealing. If you had a turnip for a head, I think you'd try and look as fashionable and sharp as possible to detract from your undersized and weird head.
Thanks to those whose textures added depth and background to my scribblings.
Emma Conner's remark on AnneMarije's RECord "Grim Reaper (horror collab)" made me think about doing it and Lawrie Brewster's REcord "Something I haven't told you" at it's conclusion made me decide to do it. So, using fringesoflife's "a world traveler." RECord as a reference, I made this. Hope it's kinda creepy :)
There are so many great And A New Earth voiceovers already! I am by NO means an experienced sound mixer, but I wanted to cut some of these together and see how great it is to hear a multitude of voices reading And A New Earth. I experimented with pace and the speed of switching voices, but I'd really like to see some work done with echoes/overlapping/etc.. This reprise project has so much potential!
(P.S. If you're in here and I forgot to resource you, just yell at me and I'll add ya! I think I got everybody though..)
Since it made it to the UK, I can now finally show it to you ;o)
I finished it 2 days ago but had to keep it a secret until Lydia recieved it.
Lydia asked me to make this and I know she was hoping I could send it over so she could make something with it and then send it back.
Now she gets to keep it forever and ever. ;o)
Oh, I need to thank librarygirl6! ;o)
while the original shot by linedreamer is so beautiful, and i love it with more color remixed - i wanted to see another side of it with a darker tone and more focus on the woman's face...
i really loved Above It All by Metaphorest that i had to turn it into a song. I hope you enjoy!!
still not quite happy with it but it's getting there... working on the timing and quality of the audio.
A vocals-only Christmas song that needs some help! It's 72bpm. Music it up? Pleeease? (Ps. Not sure bout this one)
Well it’s frightful outside
In the snow so we’ll hide
In our little lovenest by the fire
In a blanket for two
Nothing I’d rather do
Than cosy up for christmas with you
Bells are ringing and they’re singing
Let them carol away in the cold
For the whole winter through
Sleigh ridin snow sliding
That’s not for me
I’ll sit by the fire with a warm cup of tea
Well the winter winds wail
Round the treetops turned pale
From the icy cold breath of the moon
Snuggled up safe and warm
I could want nothing more cos I’m
Cosied up for Christmas with you
I didn't think I'd have time to edit for this... but once I started gathering REsources, I just had to make time. Who needs to sleep anyway, right?:) I just kept imagining the words over this bizarre parade of masked people and I couldn't resist making it.
