I apologize for the clicking (my mousepad) and rubbing (my sweater) in the background. I'll write this out and RE-RECord it tomorrow, but hopefully this will be sufficient to get started <3
A reading for Alyssa.
My whisper reading of "And A New Earth" as suggested by aszarkowski, resourced from the poem by wirrow and transcribed by left-coast-jane. My first attempt at whisper reading. Hope it's useful. Recorded via Ableton Live Lite (v.8)
Here's another whispered reading hopefully with fewer clicks, and I'm not wearing a sweater ;0) I tried to read slowers time and with more attention to phrasing. PS, kudos to leftcoastjane for the transcription (it took up 3 1/2 pgs in my journal!), she's right whole sections of this RECord really leap to the heart <3
just a chica robot(ish) woman lady trying to save the world
I was going to do two readings: one deadpan, one dramatic, but ended up with one sort of in between. Since I imagine the new video will sample a variety of different voices rather than just using one, thought I'd put it up as it is.
VO's are really not my thing, but still... wanted to give this thing a shot...
Throwing me Irishness into the mix...
Hope it's not too late! There is a tiny bit of reverb on this, but i can get rid of it if necessary ^__^
i may have done some excavating in my basement today in which a team of highly trained combat ninja dust bunnies infiltrated my lungs and hid all of my inhalers... but if you need a breathy child on-the-verge-of-tears-from-oxygen-deprivation robot voice, i'm your girl.
messed around with filters. i like this one.
a few people asked for this and.. i didnt have it anymore. so i just re-recorded it. might not be exactly the same
reading of wirrow's "and a new earth" with a robotic filter effect
happy REmixing
I decided to take a stab at doing the "and a new earth" voiceover despite voice-voers not being my thing. I copied the sound twice and put a shift on it to get a half-redubbed, half-autotuned sound.
While I like the idea of keeping with the original robotic tone in our readings, I always felt like the speaker of this piece in the video was trying to...escape in some way. Why else would a machine be telling us these things? Hence why at the end I stopped tuning the voice and just let a sister preach, you know what I'm sayin?
Never really done VO before because I tend to jumble the words up when I read out loud (yes I'm dyslexic) and have a weird accent...
God I hate listening to my own voice D: (even though it's not exactly the same as my voice because I have messed with the tempo and pitch a little bit)
raw RECording
<3
tried a high pitched, too-cheerful voice and then a more normal one.
I thought for the video it might be interesting to use the cheerful voice at first, then inter-cut it with a deeper one as if the veneer is starting to crack. then starting at "this is an invitation" keep only the second voice.
Wirrow's wonderful words willfully awoken once more.
(Happy to have another go - just let me know.)
Normally I would edit this down to cut out the repeated lines that I reread when I'm RECording, and at worst upload a few edited, complete takes. But I doubt anyone is looking for any full, clean take. Maybe one or two of the individual lines will catch somebody's ear. Either way, this is about as raw as it gets for me.
Two takes of a reading of a new earth. The first is an attempt to be close to the original - not a lot of emotion, etc. But with the second, I tried with some more inflection and emotion.
And just as a comment - I've watched this a bunch of times, of course, and I love it. But I don't think I ever paid as much attention to the words as I did now. God, is it amazing and beautiful.
Here's the little thing I threw together quickly! I should be getting some better VO equipment for Christmas, so if this is still going I may re-record. Because I literally used my webcam. I love this site, I have no idea why I didn't join sooner. If anyone can use my recording, I'd be truly honored. This is a beautiful project. Thanks to all who are a part of it! Enjoy! :)
Attempt Number 2.....hopefully audio file is here this time. Grrr.
Jumping on the bandwagon...YEEHAW!
This one's got a little more of a desperate feel to it. I dunno.
I know a lot of people have given great reads of this, but I wanted to give it a shot as well. :)
Finally got it to load correctly... I think.
