I thought it would be nice to have all the audio REmixes that were/are done for this in an album of their own.
A rough draft. Things will probably change.
So basically I had Marke's doubled track as the loudest panned center. then a little lower volume also panned center was aszarkowski's wisper track. I then layered everyone elses reading panning either left or right and turned the track volumes down. I turned Joab and DayGlo up slightly more to balance out the two female vocals. Hope you like :) If the group and Joe like this I can do another REmix to include recently added readings.
Still adding resources.
This is basically the REmix I already released but with a handful of voices added. I wanted to add them all but it became way too chaotic. I am still adding resources because there are a lot so be patient if yu hear yourself or if you were on the last one and you aren't resourced yet :)
This is my original, uncompressed mix. It's a bit more scattered (and possibly more chaotic) than the other one, but it's also more dynamic, and more, well... spacey.
I like this one but I thought it may be too out there for some. Hence the second mix.
This is a compressed version of my AaNE mix. It's a bit flatter and less "floaty" than the 'Space Mix' (my original mix). The idea was to make the thing a tad more focused and easier on the ears.
I went through a ton of your guys awesome reads of this piece and picked out four voices that I felt really contrasted with each other well, each with their own unique emotional qualities. The writing has such a wonderful build and crescendo, I wanted to make sure the music exemplified that and at the same time I wanted the voices edited in a way that they played off each other and highlighted the beauty of the writing.
Mad props to everyone's incredible voices and the incredible piece of writing. Totally excited to see what becomes of this project.
Well, the icon says it all...
I cloned aszarkowski, then threw jeffpeff in the middle and hitRECord. :)
Thanks for this site Joe
This is my first audio mixing and it was so addicting! As I was putting resources, I saw a whole bunch of other great readings! So I'll probably, obsessively make another one (;
After I recorded the raw voice track I decided to have some fun with it.
I think I want more whispering stuff... and to change the pacing a bit... and I am aware that the levels are weird at parts. Buuut it's 4:40 AM and I would very much like to go to bed, and I wanted to show you guys what I had so far so you could give feedback!
Robo_J and aszarkowski, i hope you don't mind that i turned you into evil robots :)
just took the voices that were put togeter and added a little background music to give it a little more ... i hope somebody can use this
This is an old version. The newer one is titled "And A New Earth Reprise (Dynamic vox and score)"
Okay everyone, as you can probably tell, this took a while.
The piece begins with a single robotic voice that slowly multiplies and humanizes until the final few lines are completey human and distinctive.
I think this goes along with the meaning behind the text more accurately.
Let me know what you think. I think this could go very well with the video.
So I think this works really well with the original vid, I'd love to see it mixed with some new video material! Let me know if you guys have any suggestions on improvements!
I decided to give mixing a try. This is a rough version, though.
Trying this out. Thoughts?
I started this on Thursday, January 12, 2012 and spent all my waking hours designing, downloading, cutting, pasting, re-cutting, re-pasting, moving, re-normalizing, and basically everything conceivable in sound editing, to produce this 3-minute vocal mix.
It contains, as the title indicates, 70 tracks (2 are not used in this, but if I can figure out how to make a surround sound recording, one of them wil be - watch for that - coming soon - hopefully!).
These tracks are comprised of 41 hitREcorders who did a damn good job of trying to match Joe's voice-over track. What they didn't achieve, I did my best to compensate for through the "magic" of mixing. I think I came pretty darn close!
5 of the male vocals were pitched up and down to create 10 additional tracks. 5 of the tracks in this mix are dedicated to a "top" channel - which would be really cool at a live presentation of this sound track if the audio engineer figured out how to make it work in a surround sound "plus" format. It is included in this in normal stereo
Three hitRECorders RECorded their kids (DianeFT, Sabine, and Jess Pillmore - their kids are Josh, Julia, Arwen, Logan, and Griffin) and their voices make up an additional 8 tracks. One of the tracks is my extra recording, which I used sparingly throughout. That accounts for most of the tracks - I lost count somewhere along the way.
One final track I'll mention is a public domain playground recording:
Public domain Douzen Kids on a Playground Artist: Stephan

This was definitely time consuming and tedius work, but I think the results were worth the effort.
I hope you do too!
-Todd
The overall structure is there.
Just a few things with mixing I'll continue to tweak.
Cheers!
More low end in the build, and a few small changes in the vocal mix.
Evened out levels to keep more voices going throughout. Brought out the computer voice a bit more.
