This album is a collection of and a new earth reprise videos that were put on HitRecord during the time the collaboration started to when it aired at the Sun Dance Film Festival. It is amazing to see the effort everyone put into this.

I did not include individual clips that were put into each finished version; just the final version. Those are already resourced in each version. A few editors put out several updates which are included in this album.

Congrats again to everyone who had a part in making this.

a sort of stream of consciousness-y thing ive been writing lately. i saw this timelapse vid today by bluebudgie and was really inspired to experiment with it. i understand how this might be seen as political or preachy or offensive.. but i honestly dont mean to be any of those things. it is directed at me more than anyone else. there's a lot of literary reference nod's in the text.

sub-point: the track is an instrumental version of everything is on fire

Calling all Vocal Artists, all Audio Mixers, all Video Editors!

You might know our record "and a new earth", it is definitely one of the most impactful short films to have come out of HITRECORD and we play it at all of our shows. And I was thinking that Sundance 2012 is a great reason for us to make another version of it!

I absolutely love the original, it's a beautiful piece both in style and in substance.  wirrow wrote the text and set it to a timelapse from the site while adding an instrumental track that he had made. The simplicity of it is what makes it so impactful. (here is the link to the original or you can check the resources below. http://hitrecord.org/records/141257)

But I've always wondered what it would be like if we took it to the next step because I feel this piece is really conducive to our mass collaborative creative process.

So here's what to do:

  • Vocal Artists, Actors, Poets - record yourself reading the text of the original video.  You can read it however you like, but it may be that the more similar to the original the better.

  • Audio Mixers - Mix together a large creative combination of these different recordings of everyone reading the text.

  • Video Editors - Let's start providing and editing visuals into a big montage that corresponds to the text. Remember, sometimes it's not the most literal

  • connection that is best, but maybe something less obvious that still provokes the same sentiment as the text.

Once again, the original is so beautiful in it's simplicity that I believe this can be equally as strong in it's multiplicity.  And I wanna screen it at Sundance... so let's get to work.

Thanks again,

<3

VOICE ARTISTS: We need even more vocal contributions to this, and this time TRY TO STAY IN TIME WITH THE ORIGINAL COMPUTER-GENERATED RECITATION.

Krrr made a great sketch taking a bunch of vocal contributions and editing them together, exploring what this text might sound like read by multiple vocal artists.  It sounded great with multiple voices layered over each other, but invidividual voices don't quite sound right for this particular piece.  So the challenge is to get lots of voices, but to also make sure the WORDS ARE INTELLIGIBLE, so we need to be as precise as we can, staying in time with each other.

VIDEO ARTISTS: CameronSmith and Kavonne have done great early versions of a video for this.  Watch those.  And let's find more footage along the lines of what they've got going.  Whether you actually cut video or not, you can really help with this.  MAKE AN ALBUM, go through the site, find appropriate video clips.  It'll be even more helpful if you write in your album's description which clips you think might go well with which part of the text, even specifying times in the videos, like for example, "This clip from 3:53 to 4:07 would go well with the part of the text that goes 'you have forgotten how to dream because we have removed it from your language.'"

I put more of a narrative in this one. I was too lazy to do it before.

Stil plenty of room for remixes!

Also I made wirro the main narrrator (the original intenet). But, that also makes him a girl.

Will wirrrr wring his wraaaaaaaaaaaath around me!? I'm worried!

This happens to be both Krrrrrrrrr and I's 2.4 version!

Woo!

I would have liked to to typography on this. But I can't animate letters/words/sentences at all. So...If someone wants to do that... Please do! I picture them starting off as the entire sentences, then as the film progresses, it is only the main nouns and verbs of the lines.

Hokay. So, I really liked 12.42's pretty space stuff (I'm a big fan of his) so I decided to use that as a motif in this. Alongside (and underneath) Wirr's dream experiemnents.

This is not super different from 2.1 but I wanted to get it out there because I was super excited about how it's coming out. I'm still waiting on a mix of all the robotic voices. I think a meld between starting out as normal reading and slowly transitioning into the group robotic thing will really help carve a cool narratic. And help everything climax. So... yeah. Get to mixing!

Resourcing this was a mother. Good job Krrr! The more adjustments he makes will just add to it all. I think it'll all come together as a really intense peice.

My main goal with this is to start very small. And down to Earth. Then it goes through time. Then into other dimensions. Then it ends up becoming this trippy trip trip through the universe and depths of the soul and blah blah blah. So. Yeah.

It wouldn't let me resource 'A New Earth' by anniedavis.. So, thanks to her!

Here's another of my historical REmixes. I tried to keep it in the same spirit as wirrow's original version. Starting this weekend, I will be focused on getting a contract completed which is due towards the end of January so I can't promise there will be a v.2.  Once I see that this video has encoded, then I'll add the rest of the resources.

I have taken what CameronSmith had started and added a few timelapses of my own. I also layered several different voices and timed them to match the track included in CameronSmith's version titled 'And A New Earth' Reprise 2.1. I agree with Average Joe that the more voices we have, the better this will sound. However, there are still parts that need to be more clear and understandable.

With that being said, we still have a couple weeks before Sundance! There is plenty of room for more footage, vocals and remixes.

This is my second version of "And A New Earth" Reprise.

In this version I have added a lot more video as well as audio. A couple of days ago, 12.42 uploaded a concept of earth that was simply amazing. Originally it was to be placed at the beginning, but I added it with the ending in Kavonne's version to create a really cool effect!

I also added 10 layers of audio; two of which are Krr and Andrew Keelan VOX that each have multiple layers of voices already in them. In order to use those, I first had to remove the scores that are included in them. Then I had to syncronize each layer of audio with the original audio included in CameronSmith's version of "And A New Earth" Reprise. I checked over the audio multiple times and believe I have a much better result than I did the first attempt. There is probably still room for improvement and I have noticed many more VOX added to the site that can be added still!

Overall I am really excited where this is headed! We have a little more time to improve on it!

This is my THIRD version of "And A New Earth" Reprise.

In this version, the main thing changed was the addition of Krrr's (full rough mix). This is now  the only track used for the vocal and music tracks. It is a really an amazing mix!

I have added a lot more clips and have added a dynamic heart beat to the start that CameronSmith created to add more of a dramatic effect. Overall I am really excited about this version! I hope you enjoy it too!

This is my FOURTH version of "And A New Earth" Reprise.

LOTS of resources used! I added Typography that was submitted as well as the And A New Earth (mix 2) by Krrr. Some video was changed and added as well, much thanks to DianeFT for the wonderful suggestions album!

I know there are a lot of choices as well as new typographs being added every day. I hope to go through and update with new ones where needed.

Adding all this typogrpahy was A LOT of time & effort but I think it was worth it. Everyone has done a great job! Once again, thanks and enjoy!

This is my fifth version of "And A New Earth" Reprise. New audio, video and typography have been added.

I feel everything is starting to come together. I have tried to incorporate as many variations of "And A New Earth" as possible along with various clips on HitRecord that go nicely with this collaboration. I feel this is a good reprsentation of a lot of hard work put forward by a lot of us on the website.

Enjoy!

Here is the latest "And A New Earth" Reprise. I made a few minor updates from V5. I added Krrr's Mix 5 as well as updated the typography with those with the most recommendations. I also added the original "And A New Earth" to the dream sequence introduction.

Overall, I feel this is a great representation of all our hard work; a great collaboration. Everyone who has helped in some way or another deserves credit.

As always, thanks for all your support and Enjoy!

When I started editing this video, I didn’t really know the direction I wanted to take it. Then I somehow made Edward’s character in WAKE as a constant character in this video, kind of trying to create a story out of all the madness of the different images, though the images should already make sense I hope. I only used Joe’s VO because I figured that’s the direction the video might take audio wise, so I wanted to pace the video to that, and I’m no good at audio mixing. I combined the videos by Kavonne and CameronSmith, along with a lot more other RECords I thought might work well for this short.

*there should be a buzz sound effect accompanying the clips from WAKE I made shake, I just couldn't find a good one to use*

With all of the wonderful videos being posted, I got inspired to learn a video editing program and do my first video remix! The beginning could be better, but this is what I envisioned when I heard Wirrow's awesome narrative, and the videos already posted also gave me some ideas. I used the clip suggestions I posted too. I stopped at a minute of footage, so hopefully it can be used for further remixing.

If I continue, I would use 12:42's great earth footage for the last statements of the narrative.

Here is a visual foundation sketch for us to lay the typography over for 'and a new earth REPRISE'.  It's really important to note that the typography is what is going to be featured in this piece. Meaning that the first or second time a viewer will watch the final version, they won't really be paying attention to these visuals.  With that said, I have tried damn hard to use visuals that not only support the typography but also make sense in case anyone ever does pay attention to what's behind.

It needs a lot more work and I am not totally convinced that the video clips here are close to final, it probably will change with what works best for the type.

But I am very curious to get feedback from y'all.  So, what do you think?

oh - I ran some tests to make sure that the typography still pops in all the madness, and with a little tweaking, it does :)

I know this is beyond late for a Sundance possibility, but when I watched Dr. Gory's video composition I knew that I really wanted to make my own version of "and a new earth…" (REPRISE) At least for my own animation and video editing practice.

Thank you to everyone for their amazing contributions, the hitRECord creativity shines throughout this piece. There were so many wonderful resources* to choose from and use.

This was a lot of work, especially touching up a lot of the text images to make them key correctly, but a lot of fun too. And I learned a lot through the work.

What do you think? Please post comments/crits.
