Oy! It's been a couple of moons since I last made a reREC. So much has happened, and I know I've missed a ton of stuff :(

I'm still chin-deep in the process of sorting the details of a complicated move (well, complicated for me, anyway! ha!), and the inevitable headaches & frustrations & joys that go with it have eaten away at my time. Excuses, excuses.

So, today I am making it a point to sit on my duffer & pick out a few things...

This week's "for posterity's (posterior's?) sake!" reRECs include:

 Audio

1. Walking Through Nantwich by mtbrd. Music that makes me want to find footage to piece together, to make a story or two.

2. Desert Highway by sarafinaq. Love her vocals. I "heard" it with additional instruments & vocals, but I can't explain what I heard inside of my head to save myself, so... pffft. A song for dust, dusk, and skin.

3. For You by NoahRichardson. A clever use of instruments (including a chord organ, hooray!) that's really quite charming & upbeat. My favorite REmix of it thus far has been lyrictician's For You (Remix). I love the lyrics, and I love the vocals here.

4. Clown_Lament.mp3 by Sir_Frog. Metaphorest's words/bare vox, with puzzle-piece chords finding their fit.

 Video

1. sunset through the woods by iseeowls. Blurry like bokeh lights, I found this clip to be intriguing in its ability to still tell a story (or be part of a larger one).

2. 'City' Video Autopsy- Burleson, TX by CameronSmith. Wonderful lighting in this video. Perception-wise, it is beautiful & bleak-- and it makes me a bit heartsore, though I couldn't tell you why. I will love this forever simply for the broken doll, the skull shot @1:21, and the following "handling of the skull" shots after that.

3. Ocean Stock Footage (RAW) by swaylooza. I looked at this, sound muted, for a good 10 minutes straight & I actually felt the muscles in my neck begin to loosen up. Again, I cannot stress enough how amazing footage like this is, and not just for REmixing purposes.

4. NY Ambience an Oldie but Goodie by MattConley. I stumbled upon this just a short time ago. Maybe it's because my first stop on my upcoming adventure will be New York-- but I've been noticing more & more RECords that have to do with NYC and its buroughs :D

 If I had the skills, I'd piece together various text, music & footage to make a brand-new RECord for New York. I don't know if I'm going to heart New York, but I'm certainly going to try to :)

5. re:indcecpedance by wirrow. Yah, "everyone" has seen this already. However, I am reREC'ing this out of the @!* sheer amount of joy that I was given when I saw the animation for the hand-drawn geometry @1:22-1:31. I dunno about you, but I would love to see someone take just that portion of the RECord & REmix it into something else that's represented visually.

Text

1. Donkey Blues by blushingpinkytoe777. I found this via a reading (with accompanying music) by NoahRichardson, and I laughed outright. It is amusing and quite sly with its message, and I think it has great potential for an animation or film short someday, if someone else doesn't take it into another direction entirely.

2. War (PanicAttack) by AnneMarije. After my initial read-through, I decided to apply this powerful piece in a slightly different way-- as being written through the eyes with someone who is bipolar or who wanted to commit suicide. The fight for the balance of "normalcy" can be a profound fight for independence, in itself.

Collabs

1. The Longest Poem Ever Created by LynieRae. I love anything that resembles a Round Robin, so this won me over right away.  There is a ton of potential as far as the Collab itself, as well as being able to take portions apart & making new RECords out of them. It just sounds fun :)

2. city autopsy by wirrow. Two reRECs for wirrow, but I don't think many folks will mind. This could be another epic & lasting Collab-- there is so much that can be found at random in whatever city you happen to be in, it boggles my brain gerbils. The many ways that the material and assorted RECords could be put together & interpreted makes me very happy, indeed.

And now-- I think I hear toast with apricot preserves & a spot of tea calling. So that's not it, but that's it for me.

Cheers & Happy RECording!

Recorded this whilst walking through Nantwich - a small town (not a city, but still) I spend most of my time in - very hungover one morning in November last year.

ill tell you stories of places my heart has been
dark nights on highways spread out with sand

windows down with desert wind in my hair
and the moon is high
the dark clouds are low

you said goodbye
but this will be the only time that i cry..........

i'm driving on this long dark highway
all alone without you here beside me

but the moon is high...

and this will be the last time that i cry......

ill tell you stories of places my heart has been
dark lonely places
were i thought i had no friends
mmmm you said, you said goodbye
but baby this will be the only time .....that i cry.....

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmoooooooooooooooo

I wish that somebody with real drums could add them in place of the terrible keyboard drums I added at the end of this song.  You can use Noah's drumless remix for mixing purposes: http://hitrecord.org/records/720075

Lyrics:

For You,

You know I’d do anything

I’d give into religion or turn away from God

To be with you forever is the only thing I want

But here I go again, I’m gonna turn out like my father

Tired and old and telling you again that I’m sorry

Sorry for the way you feel

Sorry for the way I still love you

You’re free to leave at any time

But if you leave this heart of mine, darling

I’m gonna follow you down

I know I made a big mistake

But letting go should never taste bitter

But bitter’s all that’s been on my tongue since the morning

But if you give me half a chance, I’ll impress you

I’ll smile at you when I get home

Instead of only when I undress you

I can be a better man and give you what you need to be whole

I’ll do everything that I can to occupy your heart and your soul

And I’ll follow you down

Finding chords for a melody can seem akin to putting a puzzle together.  Some trial & error, seeing what fits where.  (initial draft)

There once was a donkey

Who worked on a farm

The farmer was good

And his wife was a charm.

But there was just one thing

Using blushingpinkytoe777's Rec Donkey Blues, I bring you the musical version! This could totally use an animation to go with it!

So I don't have a good camera but I thought I'd upload this small bit of footage in case anyone could use it for REmixing.

Here's some raw footage I took in New York City. ludlow Street to be exact.

Some of the clips include:

* The exterior of Pianos
* "Fun" sign
* Token graffiti-filled restroom walls
* Bar lights
* "Joe" graffiti
* And more...

i put this together quickly and roughly. on the one hand i like the lightness/roughness of it contrasting with the serious tone of the audio, on the other it might be spelling things out which are meant to be left to interpretation. if u think it doesn't work well by itself please use any bits you like in your own vid!
