and here are my re-RECs for this week!
i know it’s a lot – but i think they are worth it :) i'm also re-RECing a lot of albums this week because i think more people should make them! not only are they a great way to organize your RECords, they make for easy browsing and finding great pieces to work with.
now i had gone through and selected several of the “advice” collab pieces and through a computer glitch lost them all for this album. so i will go back and add them to the end – i really should just re-REC the whole collab. if you haven’t seen it, check it out.
with that:
1. lets get personal (collab) - xanlee - not only is this a great way to learn more of fellow hitRECorders, but the questions are really fun to answer and i highly recommend filling them out!
2. waiting (collab) - emma conner - aside from being a collection of fantastic photos, it is really great to contribute to - puts a new perspective on one of the most mundane things in life.
3. guitar piece - albert -i used this for my secret valentine for bloemday and it is a great piece to edit to. could be used for more!
4 - skip and the turtle - madisenmusic - i you have heard this track, i needn't say more. :) if you have not, then listen to it, like right now :)
5 - bass love - taylor jonson - i like the sound of this and think it could go well with a vinyl edit or something similar.
6 - ukelele=happiness - blakefischer - this is also a great piece for editing.
7 - tibb's 21st reREC of tees - mrs. tibbs23 - these are just awesome!
8 - stike loves green - this is a great collection of green images and could be useful to anyone needing such pictures
9 - photography - emma conner - aside from just being an awesome collection of a lot of great shots, this is a really good example of what i meant by the usefulness of making albums.
10 - fraeulein's photos - fraeulein - ditto
11 - myimages/remixes - bloemday - ditto
12 - RE:vinyl (extended) - anita - this is off to a great start and i think a great template for the compilation of this collab
13 - jelly babies roast - fabulously freckled - aside from being super-creative (note the jelly baby tied to a stake with a strawberry bootlace!) i like the stop-motion format and set up and i think this is a good standard for turning the whole collab into a tiny film.
14- ready, willing and able - ara - i dont remember how i came across this, this week - but it is a fabulous piece and i think it is worth seeing.
15 - response to ara - lizziemackie - aside from being super-creative, i wanted to highlight it as a great style of video editing and film making.
16 - lies we tell – rijjie – this is a very vivid illustration and i think it could be interesting to see similar style
17 – gone – hellocat – this is also a very vivid illustration
18 – shadow heart (paper) – sinnamin – i lost track of the re-RECs on this, but these papercuts by sinnamin are so awesome, and this is no exception – worth ever heart it gets. perfect for valentine’s day
19 – bedazzled – bloemday – i love the phrase on this poster and think there is room for lots of remix in the concept of “a million firefly moments.”
20 – [silent scream] – horce jacobi – i noted this in the comment thread but wanted to re-REC it too – i think this is a great concept and could make for a cool photo series or film where the expressions are drawn on hands held over part of or all of a face.
21 – grand escape 2nd frame – artanon –i love what was done with this. could be cool to see “escaping” statues all over the world!
22 – forsaken king Remix – emma conner - again – i think this should be a book cover or something – it is a great mix!
23 – that way – zero – i have this on my “to do” list, but i see a whole world of stories in this shot. the dilapidated arrow pointing away from the signs and dumpsters beneath the signs in the distance…
24 – for my secret valentine – beauty of the lake – i personally love the writing style of writing parallel stories to existing stories – not a sequel, but another character experiencing the same situation from their angle. with all the amazing text RECords here, i see endless remix possibilities if taking this angle on it, and this is a perfect example…
25 – when she was five – annemariji – i just think this is beautifully written and paints such an awesome world!
26 – for the joy – emma conner – again – great piece and awesome message, imo
27 – the world from behind a keyhole – thewoodboy – i think this story is off to a great start and would love to see it completed, illustrated, etc…
28 – wind-up toys – xanlee – again – well written, great message!
29 – ghost/shadow – karengayle – perfect illustration to a great story by sinnamin!
30 – misery loves whiskey poster – belcath1981 – one of the advice collab pieces that made it! great statement, and a great mix of fonts, textures and framing. i look forward to seeing more of the posters that come from this collab!
31 – a tiny (true) love story – ppeppina – jestferlaffs put an awesome concept for illustrating this in the conversations thread on this RECord. i think the story holds room for not only illustration, but also expanding on the concept, maybe a short film to go with a slow and sexy piano piece?
32 – over – saintmaker – poignant story packed into a sentence. leaves room for endless imagination on what lead to that moment.
33 – release title - “пора перестать строить планы на прошлое...” – ekaterina fillina – basically says in russian to not plan for the past. i just like that concept.
ok, i know these were a lot! but i think there were a lot of great works posted this week!
have a great week everyone! and happy valentine’s day!
(Sometimes I just love hanging with my 4year old niece Gabrielle. Big thanks to her. Please check out some others in the resource.)
There once was a boy named Skip.
He loved to skip rocks; but he didn't have any friends.
The rocks were(was) his friends.
One day he skipped a rock really far!
He heard a loud noise.
"Ow!!"
"What was that?!" said Skip.
"It was me!!"
"Who?!!"
"My name is Bobby and you hit me with a rock!!"
Bobby was a Sea Turtle and he was mad.
"Why did you hit me?!!"
"I'm sorry Bobby! I just love to skip rocks."
"Skipping rocks? I used to skip rocks when I was a wee Turtle!"
"Really?!!"
"Yes I did!!"
"Will you skip rocks with me?!"
"Well of course!!"
Skip was so happy, he hadn't smiled this big in a long time.
He wasn't just a lonely boy skipping rocks.
He had a real friend; and they skipped rocks every day!
The end!
Goodbye! :)
Seriously. Try to frown. It's annoyingly impossible.
It's no secret that the Vinyl Collab is one of my all time favorites. I was quite absent for a while and when I came back, the first thing I did was to take a look at the collab page and there was a lot of material to be used (including awesome stuff like pamagotchi's "living sound" and Ryan Patrick's great voiceover that I really had to use). So I decided to compile everything and make a very extended version of the doc. It's about 9 minutes long and there were still things left out.
I wanted it look like a casual conversation between record lovers.
Hope you enjoy!

This can just be summed up in two words: MORE VIOLENCE.
So after many hours of brainstorming over gchat with Christin, two liquified jelly babies from failed attempts (lesson learned: never put a jelly baby next to an open flame), and one trip outside to collect little pebbles from the driveway... I give you a Jelly Babies Roast!
