I find it hard sometimes to find previous works I have recommended, so this is a place for me to collect others records that I find especially inspiring and/or that I may want to remix...
So this video is actually based on 12.42 awesome remix "Why i love HitRECord", evolution of a record :)
It's about creative process, making remixes, about hitrecord, etc.
For all the amazing people here on hitrecord, and
Happy Birthday Joe!
P.S. I don't like to cut music, but it's 5 min long, so I had to. It is really really great, by megancarnes, and you should listen to it from the beginning to the end.

My (ACTUAL) Contribution for City Autopsy.
I guess it's my homage to Ira Glass & This American Life. I tried to give an honest portrayl of my neighborhood.
I'm not sure how I feel about this cut yet. Maybe I'll go back to it and change some words or cut it in half, timewise... i guess i'll wait to see how this collaboration evolves.
PS. what a day of trying to get this uploaded. I feel like it took longer to get the right version on the internet than it did to edit and shoot the thing... pffffffff im spent.

Take it into your editing program, ditch the audio, apply clips appropriately. Feel free to slow them down and stuff, anything really that matches your edit.
Just me being rambly about independence. I know this may be too late, but I wanted to say something about this topic because it is important to me.
Thank you for listening. c: x

Any feedback, suggestions are very much appreciated. Consider it a sketch, or a rough draft. Because I didn't know how to draw this, I desided to make a quick short video-concept. Wich turned out not so quick...My computer nearly died rendering it :) I just wanted to experiment a bit with the images, and the words "whose waves formed winged beasts that leapt and fluttered into motion."

and, it's only 26 mb, so if anyone need a bigger version, just let me know.
i put this together quickly and roughly. on the one hand i like the lightness/roughness of it contrasting with the serious tone of the audio, on the other it might be spelling things out which are meant to be left to interpretation. if u think it doesn't work well by itself please use any bits you like in your own vid!
i had so much fun preparing this / making this / setting this up.
i wanted to show some of the great work that has been produced, but also not give too much away. i didn't particularly describe any of the work on the walls because i feel that it will intrigue people more and let them come to the site and discover this world on their own. i tried to keep it as simplified as possible, but still with a lot to look at. and it has indeed been capturing people's attention. we've had sold out shows so far this weekend and everyone has been stopping and looking/reading/watching. it's really quite exciting.
the idea with the linked resources was kind of just to give an impression of how many different people and ideas make one thing. and that really it is always on going.
the projections run on loop the entire time the cinema is open. and with the changing of light throughout the day the colours and visuals change too.
every piece on the wall has a tiny label with the name of the record and the collaborators user name, so they can be looked up.
i hope i've done us hitrecorders proud and that you all enjoy this...and if you live nearby then please ome and see it!
love <3
I was inspired by MERYLtastic's A New Earth Visual Poem, where she did something very similar to this, where the poem is shaped to a globe. She said to freel free to play around, and I have played with fonts and colour! The closer to the end of the poem you get, the more diverse the fonts are, although I don't know how well that comes across.
And of course, I couldn't have done it without the transcription!
UPDATE 10th Jan 2012:
I'm going to go ahead and contribute this to the New Earth Typography collab started by RegularJoe. I know this RECord isn't what he was asking for (i.e. it's not separate lines to be used individually as titles) but because it is typography, it seemed appropriate, somehow. Maybe it will foster ideas? Or help in some way? At any rate, I thought it couldn't hurt.

So I made this over the weekend... These girls make me laugh!
It would be way cool if you downloaded it and watched in high quality.
Static
A sort of hovering video about this great, incredible, fantasticlygreatly music.
I absolutely adore this video by sambadsa; it reminded me of what I think memories of our childhood would look like if somehow mapped out into a video signal...they would be blurry...and there would be a flurry of colors and sounds that seem comforting and familiar, but no real tangible concept or idea to wrap our arms around.
I'm not really 100% sure what that means, but it's what I feel anyhow.
I made this as an ode, basically to HitRECord, but more so to the community that it houses. I appreciate every second I'm here and I think about our possibilities even when I'm not. So I guess I'm just saying thanks to everyone for making it wonderful. I'm not much of a voiceover artist or a video editor, but it was for a purpose, so I gave it a shot.
(HERE'S THE TEXT)
What you see here, is a monument. It's the beginning of the beginning. A lantern in a dark room. A torch in the forest.
What you see here, is the human soul splayed across a canvas. Penned on old paper. Sang in the voices of a thousand songs. Burned into the celluloid and spattered across the screen, silver or otherwise.
What you see here, are the rays of light that spread across the bedroom floor in the afternoon. The dust particles that float carelessly through them. A warmth unknown to the night that always comes eventually.
What you see here, is a testament to the strength of our spirits. The animals inside of us that tear and howl to be loosed upon the world. And we let them move from our hearts, to our veins, into the ends of our fingertips, onto canvases. Through our throats and past our teeth, to the ears of whoever is listening. And we show our dirty hands to the world and ask that they find hope in whatever is laid there.
What you see here, is love.
What you see here are saviors, heroes, artists, and martyrs. Here you'll see people, alive. And we've all lost something to the pen or to the brush, we've bled into the camera lenses and the microphones. We're illuminating the corners of the darkest rooms.
What you see here is our collective wounds. The scars they leave behind are ours, and they are testaments to the craft. They're reminders that we live to create a better world, a better place to survive in.
What you see here is the sunrise. The blue before the morning.
And what you'll see from now on, is the birth of a beautiful future.
What you see here, is thousands of people, together, building the sun from light they've made themselves.
And the sun, it's getting brighter. It's going to be a beautiful day. It's going to be a very, very beautiful day.
Thanks, for everything.
Love,
Brandon
thank you everyone for contributions for the collaboration - excellent work on the designing Mademoiselle Noir's world :)

This is part of what happens Behind the scenes at these shows.
It's encoded to Apple Prores LT - just a little note for those FCP nerds out there.
Yey my first video upload! Say hello to Winter Storm Draco. Hopefully someone can find use for this. :D

A little something that I've been working on. I remember trying to fall asleep as a child. The slightest noise would somehow find a way to sound scary. This is as close to a visual representation as I'll probably ever get to that feeling.
I'd like to eventually have a bunch of similar pieces, that convey the feeling of certain sounds, designed over waveforms. I'm posting this one here, hoping that it catches the eye of a few people who wouid like to take a stab at a few different sounds.
I think it would also be cool to eventually have a collection of emotions as waveforms as well.
Anyway, just trying to come up with some new ideas for us all to work on! Hope you enjoy!

a video of a papercut snowflake mobile i made for the snow collab. two and a half minutes of multiple distances, speeds, and directions. (i'm personally fond of the one at 0:20)
it's set to "The Carousel of Celestial Lights" by johnnyclyde, because he's awesome, and the song makes the whole thing a little hypnotic to me.
no two humans are identical in their DNA, nor are their eyes ever same with anybody else's. your eyes are like no other to anybody in the world!
the loop that an eye is shaped into has always been a fascination to me as well as the colour and pattern within the iris. basically i think eyes are amazing.
i tried tagging as many records as i could remember so if you see one of your eyes in it or anything to do with the making of this video, please leave a comment and i'll see what i can do :)
i hope you enjoy it <3
Cat’s cradle can be an endless loop, with a loop of string! I’ve been trying to figure out how to shoot artistic looking solo cat’s cradle (and failing to do so) ever since I saw unusual suspect’s awesome drawing for the and a new earth typography... this collab gave me the impetus to give it another go! Since I can’t actually see what’s being filmed once I press record while doing this, the framing is a little messy and there are a couple of spots where the focus shifts, but I think (hope?) that could be part of its charm;) Maybe bits of it could be edited into an actually endlessly repeating loop/gif?
My first Remix. I used Robo J's 'Train to Los Angeles' video footage and remixed it to ppeppina's song 'Re: loops (we can go back)'. I like how the footage of the train journey works both ways, whether it's going forwards or backwards, and the music is just really nice and melodic. Hope you enjoy it! :)
Just a video that i took in the car during a thunderstorm. It's very simple, but I thought it might be useful for the "Loops" Collaboration. Well, I hope you like it :)

Animated edit of images from "Animal Locomotion", photographed from the original 1887 publication, found on the Eadweard Muybridge Online Archive http://www.muybridge.org/
Very simple moving colored lights edited. Not sure if it loops seamlessly but I think it can be tweaked if it needs to be longer.
A bunch of clips I took of clocks and watches. I thought they might be useful for the Loops collaboration--clocks make me think of routine, repetition, and cycles. They dictate when you do what you do every day. And hey, look! They're circles!

Inspired by RE: Snow collabora...
Okay, so this is just a VERY rough and quick test shot for an idea I had for both the Loops project and the Childhood project. I'm gonna add a person pushing the the person on the swing as well as colour and a background. I'll also have it loop for a bit longer so that you can sit mesmerized by it for at least a 30 seconds.
I'm pretty lazy, so hopefully i'll get this done in the next couple of days. I hope y'all like it.
*Update* Okay, so i've been a bit too busy over the last couple of days to do the next version of this, but i've also been trying to get a setup that means my picture will be bright and clear. I'll try another test tomorrow and post it for some feedback.
Here is a RE: Cities ive been working on for a little while, its sort of a rough cut and I may upload a more fine tuned one later. Enjoy!
Graphic design-y logo exercise idea, insprired by the poem "Which Love Fits?" by JulesKD. Also then used in a post on my Tumblr I wrote about words for different kinds of relationships and how that relates to me personally.
Individual, transparent high-res PNGs of the logos are also available on my page for remixing. Enjoy!
This was my first ever post-it project.
This is also my most extensive post-it project.
Backstory
In my Power and Representation class, my roommate and I had to do a final project using a lesson we learned in class and interpret it anyway we wanted to. One of the lessons we learned was appropriation. (For those who don't know, appropriation is when you take a well-known object and give a new twist on it.)
So my roommate decided to make a project that exemplifies appropriation. Our object of choice? Post-its. We decided on Bruno Mars' song Somewhere in Brooklyn to narrate our video (thus the video's title). Since this is hitRECord and nothing should be copyrighted, I have deleted the song that goes with the video. However you will notice spots in the video where "Somewhere in Brooklyn" (the title) flashes. I don't know if I should edit that out, but please let me know if that violates copyright.
Story
The story of video is boy meets girl in subway station. Girl gives boy her number. Boy loses girl's number. All he knows is that she got on the subway leading to Brooklyn. Boy looks for girl. Will he ever find her?
Notes
- here's the link to the one WITH audio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fliAmITBoQY
- 212 is the little name that my roommate and I decided to name our little partnership.
- This was my roommate's first post-it project too. It's safe to say that we didn't know what the hell we got ourselves into.
- It took a week to do this. We had to finish it before thanksgiving break so while she was doing homework, I would work on the video and vice versa. There were a lot of late nights.
- This was all shot using the iPad 2 (and no tripod, obviously).
- You are welcome to remix it using original music. If the "Somewhere in Brooklyn" slides are too much, I can edit that out.
-If any of this video violates copyright, please let me know. I don't want to get in trouble.
When I first viewed the Outsiders collaboration I thought it was extremely relatable. Most of us feel that way, I think, and we have a longing to connect and be accepted for who we are, free from judgment.
Unfortunately, acceptance does not come easily in a fearful world. Although being an outsider is something to be celabrated it comes with a price.
I did these sketches years ago and I wanted to contribute to this theme hoping that the images evoke a feeling of familiarity and reflection. They are not complicated images and I think they are relateable in their simplicity. Perhaps someone will run with one and create something beautiful.
Yes you can,
because you breathe in the same way like everyone of us.
This is my grandpa Jorge. He likes to play the accordion:)
an old stop motion/pixilation assignment. dragon stop motion, a shadow and a door. I may well remake this in my new apartment. we have better doors.
i've always (sooooooooooooooo) wanted to be a character designer for movies ;) Here is the first of two requested characters for "subway existentialist"
(the matching male character is in progress, and I will probably upload him tomorrow or the day after) the zip file http://www.hitrecord.org/records/1321577 includes a .psd file with a girl character; the file contains folowing parts on separate layers:
- Head with: hair, closed eyelids, ears, nose - sentence of blinking (grouped, 9 layers) - 3 series of mouth-opening sentences (3-7 layers, grouped) - eyebrows (one version, but i highly recommend to move them if anyone will animate this) - wrinkles (visible on jpg) - body with neck - arms - forearms - some hands (with and without visible thumb etc) - calfs with shoes - thighs
the resolution is pretty good, so I hope someone will use it :)
I've been waiting and watching these past few months (much to my mounting frustration) for the perfect image/s to REmix for rajasoup's tiny story and then, finally, I stumbled across this amazing little guy by darrylfletcher (check out his other RECords!).
It was well worth the wait. The style reminds me of those hard cover little story books you used to get at the supermarket check out (it was the 80's for those youngins playing at home) and I miss them.
