I liked sfdetroiter's suggestion, so here is a new one.

The faces in the original one, http://hitrecord.org/records/250249 aren't distorted.

InterNTNL_Lyn, I love your new version! Nevertheless, I had meanwhile played around with your original. This means downloading your file to a flash drive, turning on my old computer (purchased in 1999) which has mere megabytes of memory, and running Photoshop v. 5.5 (what's the current version?), then taking the flash drive to my "newer" computer (made c. 2001) which has internet access... Anyway, this all took me a while but was fun. The results aren't great, but besides a tiny bit of distorting the faces, I also tweaked colors & contrast & stuff, and tried to remind myself how Photoshop works. After all that, I can't not share my REsults with my friends here, for what it's worth. :)

I should be getting a less old computer soon, which I believe has a less old version of Photoshop on it! Maybe I'll play around more. 'Cause even though in the past when I had to, I could do stuff on Photoshop, I actually have no idea how it works.

Thanks for an excuse to have a little fun, at least!

artsydarling's photo is so beautiful, but I also like things dark and contrast-y. Thought I'd take advantage of the bright light with a mysterious figure in the background. Did I do enough? Too much? (I'm learning here.)

After the rain, the uneven pavement collects so much rain you have to hide behind the bus shelter when the bus comes. If you don't want the water that just cleaned the gutter to splash all over you, that is.

I uploaded this before I had Photoshop on my computer. If you care to use it, feel free to make it better in Photoshop or whatever other program you might have. I'll leave that to you instead of uploading a second version. I suspect it could benefit from some tweaking of the levels/colors or whatever.

Several of the apartment buildings in this historic Detroit neighborhood (6 & Woodward, just north of Highland Park) burned down years ago but (last I was there) still stand.

If your city never had to cut burned-out building demolition from its budget, you clearly don't live in Detroit or Highland Park.

I remember this when this building burned, several years before this photo of it was taken. Not sure if it's been demolished yet or not. This is/was in Highland Park.

This was the Ford Motor Company's headquarters in Highland Park. It is the birthplace of the Model T. It's used for storage now. I don't know who owns it. Murky dusk seems appropriate to me.

There's an historic photo that was known as the most expensive photo ever taken (back then), where Ford stopped all production and every employee gathered and posed for a group picture on the lawn next to this building.

Now there's a strip-mall where that lawn used to be (actually, the parking lot to the strip mall) called the "Model T Plaza" - appropriate homage to the inventor of mass production, as well as to the automobile, which made strip-malls and malls of any sort possible. Gee, thanks, Henry Ford!

New Center, Detroit. The tall building is the Fisher Building. The Cadillac Building, which now houses the State of Michigan offices, but used to be the GM headquarters, would be across the street (on the left). The building in the foreground is the Hotel St. Regis.

I was visiting home from San Francisco. Guess I brought the fog with me.

A fairly random shot. But nice & foggy! You can see Sutro Tower in the background, rising out of the fog. All the broadcast TV stations in SF (well, as I understand it. Maybe just all the major ones?) send out their signals from that one tower. I'm not sure how the physics work, but it seems like a good idea. People like me still using rabbit ears can just point them to one direction. :)

The Lookout Bar, which you can see in the picture, is where we hold "Sacred Cocktails" on Monday nights, talking about God and LGBT issues over booze.

Ste_anne_from_distance
Ste. Anne de Detroit is Detroit's oldest church, founded just days after Detroit was founded in 1701, around the feast of St. Ann, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This particular church building is newer, of course. Ste. Anne is the patron saint of Detroit.

This photo was taken from where I got off the bus, near the Ambassador Bridge. The church - and the 5pm (?) Mass - was my destination.

Because of its proximity to Mexicantown (Southwest Detroit), Ste. Anne's has services in both English and Spanish. No French (or Latin) anymore. :)

Father Gabriel Richard is buried in the chapel. He's the source of the Detroit city motto: "It will rise from the ashes. We hope for better things." He said that after the early-19th century fire that destroyed the city, small as it was back then. Every major city has had its major fire, right?

Well, I was feeling pretty good on this particular day, having just come from the Asthma Clinical Research clinic at UCSF (which you can actually see in the background) where I was given some medication or other that gave me a once-in-a-lifetime experience of what it's like to BREATHE! So I went over to nearby Golden Gate Park, and at this spot you see here, even took off running! Oxygen is a powerful drug.

Studio space in the Art Center Music School, Detroit. To be honest, I don't know what this space is used for - dance lessons? Choral singing? Who knows. Something that requires space and a piano, and apparently gathers at least as many people as there are chairs there? But I liked the feeling that the space itself is waiting for something to happen...

Eastern Market, Detroit.

I just liked the windows, but as we were lingering here a guy came up & asked if we were associated with the club that meets in the building. Apparently there's a club (with a steep membership fee, sadly) where artists & engineers & such get together to work on collaborative projects. The building says it's United Specialty Produce, and there are little stickers that look like someone was tagging the building that actually say the name of the club, OMNICORPDETROIT. Weird, huh? That's the sort of thing you find in Detroit sometimes, and Eastern Market is a fairly likely place for it too.

Sitting up straight and more saturated. And cropped. I also burned in the street a bit, well, a lot. Making the Warhol comment on the last version made me think this needed to be done: more geometric, more symmetrical, more colorful.
