Working on a video for wirrow's piece "writing about flickering lights." This album is a work in progress gathering REsources... not sure where I want to go with this yet, but I want to do something:)
Hope others use these REsources to make videos for this piece as well... and feel free to suggest other RECords that may be helpful.
give me all the flickering lights!
tiny specs of fluttering rays
and city glitters shimmering
but only from far away.
i want them all it's an addiction
i want the christmas lights buried in snow
and the blips in science fiction
films from years ago.
give me all the night sky's twinkling sprinkles
and the red pulsing eyes
on tvs that standby
fading, flirting in and out
like a game of cat and mouse.
bits of foil in the distance
blowing kisses from the sun to me and
showing no resistance to the photons
that consistently pass notes on
from one lover to the other
like cupids tiny brothers.
give me all the flickering lights.
light every candle and wave every phone
glinting and bleeping and
imprintining glowing circuses
that linger while I'm sleeping.
an orchestra of weeping light
swan singing like star crossed choirs
who play themselves to me
all night.
added a little synth part to wirrow's reading.
I love this poem by wirrow (and I'm so happy he did his own voice over for it:) I had to put some music with it and this piece by megancarnes fit perfectly.
I'm going to work on a video for this, but I hope other people do as well. It lends itself PERFECTLY to visuals and I'm sure we have the REsources:)
For all you video editors out there!
Recently, I got the bright idea (see what I did there) to turn off all of the lights in my room, place my DSLR at a 90 degree angle against my wall, and use my hand to let the light from an LED flashlight spill onto the wall and into the lens. I wasn't sure exactly how this would look, but I think the result is pretty amazing, and I wonder how many people would even know what they were looking at without me telling them. Anyways, I decided to share it with you guys because I think it works really well as stock footage.
P.S. I have loads more of this kind of stuff. Just let me know, and I would be glad to share it.

A video shooting directly into the lens of a laser while it was projecting a red & green light show. Could be a cool background.
another documentation of light and shadow.
This is a low resolution file that was incorrectly rendered. If you want to download the hi-res version, here's the link: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/829400
A remix of 'To This', made (with love) to commemorate the special occasion of Miss Lizzie Mackie's 21st birthday! <3
(N.B. I recommend playing this in full screen mode for the full hypnotic experience!)
Uploading old old footage from the Thanksgiving Chapel in Dallas. I liked the kaleidoscope effect.. the original footage is at the end of the clip in case it may be useful too.
Sorry it's short/shaky, hoping to go again & film better.
a video taken of the shadows of leaves moving on pavement.
Last night large flakes of wet, clumpy snow fell faster and faster for a few minutes, and I was lucky enough to have been caught out in it (though was later very wet) and captured it on video with the light of a streetlamp. It's very much raw footage, but maybe it will be useful for something?
blurry christmas lights AND dancing dust, can it really get any better than this?
i left this footage pretty much unedited (minus the parts of my kids bumping into the camera that i decided to take out). christmas lights are one of my favorite things, blurry ones are even better, and this dust is just magical. it kinda reminds me of snow, which we sadly don't get much of here in mississippi. i hope this inspires someone to make something wintery and beautiful :)
i just added the background music out of boredom. it's called "flurry" and it was my first RECord i ever posted here almost a year ago, i can't believe it's been that long already!
**disclaimer: i mayyy have shaken an old blanket in front of the camera to get extra dusts in a few shots. just didn't want anyone thinking my house is always this dusty. i have way too many dusty video RECords (dusty dance, dusty piano) - maybe it's a sign that i should clean my house.
Taken at the Radiolab show in Berkeley CA, 11/4/2011
The crowd was given LED lights and batteries to participate in the end of the show. I thought it would be useful for background or effects.
Christmas Eve was always a much bigger deal in our family than Christmas Day.
After dinner, we’d get dressed in our nicest clothes and go to church. I loved the candles they’d hand out, and being the kid I was, I always used them to draw wax designs on the cover of my choir folder. I remember lighting the candles, passing the flame from candle to candle, down the church pew. My mom crying as we’d sing “Silent Night.” I would sing too, while staring at the flame, entranced. I would always hold off blowing out the flame as long as I could. I was terrified of fire, but I loved it all the same. I was always the last one to let the light go out. I remember the Christmas after my dad died, sitting in that church pew, with my mom on one side, and my brother on the other, singing "Silent Night," our candles outstretched, crying so hard we couldn’t make the words come out of our mouths.
Then we’d go home, singing Christmas carols in the car as we drove. When we got home, we’d change into our pajamas as my dad put on Christmas music and started cooking. Pizza Rolls and eggnog were the tradition. When they were done, we’d gather around the tree and open our presents.
This year is the first Christmas Eve that I've spent alone, and, I'll admit, I was a little down about it. I'm no longer religious-and actually I consider myself an Atheist-but this is a tradition I wanted to carry on, and I wanted to share it with you, dear hitRECorders. So tonight I lit a candle, listened to "Silent Night," and RECorded it. I've grown so close to so many of you in the past 8 months that I've been on the site-I love you, and I consider you to be part of my family.
Happy holidays dear friends. <3

Flickerings are but mere fragments of the stories the soul once retained, played out on the dimly lit walls. There's an awful lot to be said about whether or not those stories were good, bad or otherwise, but it helps to be indifferent when the eventual feeling of being haunted by the past descends. It soon became apparent to me that there wasn't anything in particular that would ease a troubled soul like mine. The candlelight sought only to appease the darkness of the night and it was not going to send me into a deep sleep. I could've argued all night with myself if I wanted to, but the life of a soul that lives by the night, the moon and the candlelight is a lonely one.
Created from a video clip of 15 candles, multiplied, rotated and placed in After Effects.
TURN OFF YOUR SPEAKERS! (if you don't want to hear traffic noise, "atchoum" from me, "bêêêê" from the sheep, and music that came from the barn...)
This is your fire star, Kouralilly!
At the first shot, I took several pictures, but it blews a bit, so fire was going everywere and I wasn't able to capture the star shape. The one I use as icon is the best of 42 pictures I took. And I'm not a photograph... so I decided to take a video! And it allows you to see fire movements!
But I was perched at the top of a stool, without any tripod, so the image is moving... Maybe I should try it again and fix my camera if anyone would like to use it in accelerate for remix.
If anybody has new fire challenge for me, I'm ready for it!
I was totally mesmerized by the steam coming off my coffee this afternoon (it looks like clouds and the reflected overhead light looks like the moon!). I hope you are too. Perhaps one day I will stop being that girl who clearly just discovered that hey, she can take video! but today was not that day.
My roommate put on a record this morning and some cool stuff was happening with the light coming through the window.
The compression I used wasn't very good. Sorry about that.

wirrow's voice made me want to make a den of flickering lights and twirl around and feel magical. so i did. in slow motion. it was wonderful.
((( HOW RAINBOWS ARE MADE ))) ~Filmed on a Whackberry~
some light entertainment (vid. circa 2008)
close up of fire. no sound.
Sorry 'bout the noise in the background there. It can always be edited out, of course. You know, for those who are good with the sounds and the editing and whatnot.
My cat Dexter makes a short appearance in this vid. He was very curious!
A sort of hovering video about this great, incredible, fantasticlygreatly music.
