I am making this album not only for the Monster City Collab, but also for Chloe's Characters Collab. It will take me a little while to add resources, so if you did a character and don't see it here, please be patient :)
There was something about SRL73's sketch (in resources) that I really liked (probably the Beetlejuice inspired arms!) so I thought I'd just REmix it & bring it a little to life! <3
this is a landscape of my city Whangarei in New Zealand.....or how I like to see it. The landscape is the treasure of my city.
I couldn't help myself, I just had to get in on all the "Eat You Monster" fun! My reMIX in Vector Illustration.
This is a large PNG w/ transparent background. Ooo... Let's make stickers!!!
See this guy with the brick wall background here - http://hitrecord.org/records/671101
Sorry it took an extra day or two Amber. Had the head cold from hell the past couple days. I hope you like all of them. I am trying to decide if I should draw one more monster for the monster band? What do you think?
I thought I would go ahead and upload the original in case someone else wants to color and clean up this guy. =D
I was so excited when the monster collab came up! one of the drawing phases that i want through when i was younger was ALL about monsters and creepy rag-dolls (too meany tim berton movies i guess) anyway i looked back into some of my old drawing books and i found this treasure :) I think I was 9 when i drew this.
Here's another response to Rabid Schnauzer's challenge for a Monster City beauty salon!
Just a simple step-by-step on how to give a monster a mani/pedi.
(Okay, so I've never really gone to a beauty salon/had a mani/pedi before, so this very... general :P)
So, Rabid Schnauzer challenged me to do something for a beauty salon for the Monster City collab, & here's the first of my responses!
I imagined the Stylist (Stylist Monster?) as a mixture of all styles, with her left arm being her beauty equipment & her right arm being her more heavy duty one; after all, "no monster mani/pedi can be done without the right tools -- bolt cutters, rasps, blow torches"! (Thanks, Rabid Schnauzer!)
The Team are basically little round monsters that hop onto adjustable platforms & fix mechanical arms onto themselves to do their work.
I made this from a photograph I took of the walnut dresser my dad made for me when I was a kid. It is a photo of the woodgrain on the side of the dresser, that just happened to be the side that faced my bed at night. I put something like 500 glow in the dark stars on my wall before the dresser was ever there, but when i got it the stars lit up the room at night and that combined with my imagination gave me trouble falling asleep for many nights. I obviously added effects to this as well as smoke, fire, eyeballs, and a mouth, but it really looks like this!
My son handed this to me when I picked him up for school today. It made me laugh out loud. He is 11, well almost 12. He said it's his first tiny story, and he wanted me to add it to the Monster City Collaboration :)
My 6 year old daughter wanted to contribute something to the Monster City Collaboration (I have been printing off monsters for her to color). Here is her contribution (she drew it, I added color).
whoa. this uploaded a little larger than I intended it to be. My doodle of the day "Monster, Monster Ma'am"....
#2 pencil, charcoal pencil, fine tip sharpies, neon crayons, & chalk pastels.
I did this remix of Lydia's sketch for the Monster City Pet Shop REmix. Humans are sold as pets there. This could be useful for other things, so I am recording it separate.
Just a little sketch I made earlier whilst on the phone at work. If anyone wishes to animate the little guy - feel free! I would love to see him in action.
I doodled the little guy, scanned in and photoshopped the colours.
Sylvie in a headpiece I made for a children's production of Where the Wild Things Are many many moons ago. Shame she's holding that silly blue cup or else I would think she could be cut out and placed somewhere more magical. Who knows, though - might be useful. Maybe I'll try to get another of her...
just your freindly neighborhood un-dead bunny. ripped out of one of my math notes :P
never got to putting him in a fancier project, but i'd love to see this guy remixed!
some scetches for an oil pastel i did a while back. ive lost the oil pastel since then, but these drawings are still pretty fun!
If for some godforsaken reason you have not read Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" ... read it so you know the inspiration for this painting.
This was done with charcoal pencils and watercolors.
Some call it narcissism, some call it self-acceptance.
I can, upon request, upload the paper I used to draw on for use as a texture, as well as a clean, black and white version of the drawing.
I've been meaning to do a tiny story for quite a while, but just got around to it. This is also for part of a collab that I'm hoping to start really soon! I'm working on adding some watercolor, but I figured I would upload the outline because people have done a really good job at adding color to my doodles in the past. : )
I actually made these guys for an anti-drug mascot contest at school, but I thought maybe someone on here could find them useful for a story or something..
Orange squishies who live in the trees. They move through bouncing and twisting and their favorite foods are coconut leaves, apple seeds, grape pits - but only from the grapes of the ocean - and pig milk. Rewfoe
You can find the "Recycling Monster" in the Eden Project in England (Cornwall). It's the world's largest rainforest in captivity with steamy jungles and waterfalls:
A chupacabra is Mexico's answer to the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot. It is rumored to be about the size of a dog, and has a taste for goat flesh
Ink outline, rendered in Photoshop CS5! I created this peice for Caroleluciole's Elements Collaboration, my idea is based on the element of Fire, and took inspiration from the japanese legend of The Hell of the Dragon's Mouth.
There was actually a massive spider in my room but i lost it, and i thought it was in my bed. i couldnt sleep!!! so i drew it...and still couldnt sleep
For my band's b-sides album. The drawing is inspired by a short poem I wrote:
all the joy of slumber
tear at my peaceful darkness
send me to a nowhere after
dreams of teeth and claw
Yesterday, I got a nice welcome from adhgraphicdesign , and I was so happy that I wanted to repay her somehow, so I was looking around her profile and I saw her son Oliver's drawings, one that caught my eye was the T-Wrecks (an Oliver original) and I was like "this seems simple enough to REmake this before I start on my tests!" so I made this, not exactly like it's counterpart, but I added my own style to it, I hope Oliver likes it, and I hope he continues doing more artwork!
I drew this on a skectch pad, then I used Photoshop and a photo filter website. :D
Oh yeah, I might not do much for awhile due to finals coming up
I wish someone would make Smeeg come to life in a video, or a REmixed drawing, or a poem, I wanna see him in just anything really, I'm really proud of this drawing because I drew it so well, and in the middle of class too (I have the actual template I used for this edited version) and It's on of the few things that I actually Originally made, with my own 2 hands
Truth be told, I have no freaking clue what the hell this is supposed to be, but I'm sure it would make a most interesting centerpiece on a CD cover with the right background. Done in 2008.
Done with colored pencils
Another older piece that was done in 2007 and can be used as an album/CD cover, promotional poster or whatever.
I'm also willing to draw a new dragon for your album cover or promotional piece.
Done with sharpie markers.
Another one of my super garish, weird, made-up creatures. Could be used in a collage with some other hippy-trippy images for a 70's-style album. The poosibilites are endless.
It's supposed to be a cross between a fox and a red-golden pheasant.
Done with colored pencils and sharpie.
I found this when I was illustrating some tiny stories. Originally for Monster collab and Character collab. I renamed it-and called it a tiny story, which really isn't like me-but It just kinda made me laugh. Maybe you will enjoy.
Back to the drawing/charcoal board!
The Forgotten are spirits of abandoned hopes and dreams that wrap around your eyes until all you can see is what could have been.
(Or: a mid-afternoon doodle shamelessly inspired by toryelena and Miyazaki, because I can.)
-played around with different background textures, decided to upload with a transparent background. All the better to remix them with ;o)
This is the unfortunate result of an stressful day at work followed by painting with several glasses of wine---very odd comic book style frog monster. Anyone want to color him in?
just did a papercutting for swaylooza's tiny story: "I do not fear the monsters under my bed. The monsters I fear, are in my head."
the other day I didn't have this dream.
....This is what I will start doing with all the stuff I find here.
Melt them and then turn them into this ______ drawings.
I woke up this morning with a monster on my head!
It was crazy and wild! It was mean and red!
It gave me such an awful scare,
til I realized it was just my hair.
I just love the rendition of a 'mermaid' done by callmeishmael in his 'The Happy Family' illustration...so, unique.
I decided to give it a REmix and added a bit of twist to it. Oh, I added a horn for it too!
My sister drew this. I've been trying to get her to sing in but she says she won't have time (whatever that means). She's been making some monsters for the collab, though, so I'll be putting them up as she finishes them.
when I started reading the main plot and saw
"3 - the kid tells parents but isn't believed" I wondered if it was because they can't see them or because the monster are hiding.
well it's explained after that they can't see them, still I had the idea of big monster trying to move in city without being seen, this one isn't very inconspicious :/
the snapshot is from Zsofi94
Solshagal (soul-shuh-gal) - This malevolent creature may seem like a harmless little fellow that exists within the world of imagination and fantasy. But nay, you are gravely mistaken. While not many had seen them, the Solshagal has been lurking by the side of humanity since the dawn of creation. They feed off human's creative cells and one is suspected to have been plagued by this malevolent creature when they begin to experience Creative Slump. If left untreated, the victim will eventually suffer far worse psychological disorders that mainly leads to suicide.
If one suspects that one have encountered a Solshagal, best method of treatment is to keep browsing for resources that could spark one's creative outlet and keep oneself surrounded by creative peers at all times. The Solshagal will eventually leave you alone and find its next victim.
(Ok, the name sounds lame. Been on a Creative Slump lately...don't mind this delusional stuff)
Myshtigal (mish-ti-gal) - While seemingly clumsy by appearance, these creatures are masters of delusions. Unlike the Solshagal where they feed off only on creative cells, the Myshtigals consume the sanity of their victims by trapping them within their own delusion. The latter is considered to be a slightly more dangerous creature as their victims do not develop any noticeable symptoms until it is too late.
However, if one is fortunate enough to notice a possible encounter, proper medical treatment would be the only way to rid the highly dangerous Myshtigal.
(Another one of those creative slump ideas. Artwork inspired by Ghost in the Machine by JacksonBlack)
Razmaghul (Raz-ma-gool) - It has been increasingly disturbing to know that while this place is innocent and fun, there's something malevolent lurking by its far reaches condemning the human mind. Alas, with thorough research conducted, it appears that the Razmaghul could be one of the culprits.
Apparently, this creature that bore similar form to a cat plagues the human mind with an unknown force that causes a form of addiction and deprives them of their sleep. The Razmaghul is sometimes referred to as the Nightmare or the Sleep Eater where they feed off human's attention preventing them from entering the world of dreams.
It seems that there have been reports that some HitRECorders might have potentially been haunted by the Razmaghul. If one suspects of such encounter, it's time one pulls the plug and go to bed...
I changed his shape a bit. I like my monsters pudgy.
Hand rendering script is a bitch when you actually have awful handwriting.
I love zombies and zombie flicks! I recorded a zombie version of me close to last halloween and a couple more zombie things , so I thought I would make it a tradition :)
That Dharma Guy: I don't know what it takes to animate so I'm not sure if this is sufficient. Let me know if you need anything else.
The best part about having monsters for friends is that there's always enough arms to hug you and enough eyes to look out for you, even when you're alone!

WorldWide Monsters. Now haunting in a town near you! (this has a transparent background for anyone interested in remixing)
So I've been designing things for my shop and I made this zombie bunny.
I added the "Just Make Shit" to see what it looks like. What do you think?
I drew this in the dark when i lost power during the hurricane. there's a second part to it and i should be uploading as soon as i can :)
Here's one that I made with the Monster Mashup Parts (1073927).
Make a monster with these parts and contribute your monster creations to - http://www.hitrecord.org/records/1073929
I played with some shadows and distance blurs on this one. This is fun!

Happy Holidays christopher.harn! I was your Secret Santa, so this Motion Monster is for you. Hope you have a fabulous Holiday Season!
P.S. Someone needs to turn christopher.harn's "Carnival Tequila" (852556) track into a Holiday Song. Not necessarily Christmas, I was thinking a tune moreso about the drinking and celebrating type; a general seasons greetings and/or a New Years tune. DO IT!

This lonely illustration seeks a story. Or some remixing. Or both.
Inspired by Monster in My Heart by haley.aronow ("In my heart, there's a monster./ In that monster, there's a heart."). Unfortunately, my attempts to add text or a second heart were unsatisfactory. I leave this for remixing.
A possible tiny story -
I felt the rage boil hot in me,
A monster in my heart.
My son did this for Brooke and we will be sending it to her soon! He loves her work, especially her monster illustrations. Brooke you inspire him to draw <3
After an attempt at hiding under a child's bed and failing, the monster found they'd accidentally discovered a fantastic new fashion statement.
Random idea I had a while ago. A monster too big to get under a child's bed wears it like a hat. Probably needs a snappier tiny story to go with it but anyway, I give you a pretty chuffed monster showing off their new hat.
