::::::::
Update: Sadly, I lost a lot of my work on this due to a faulty drive. So mad, and so sad... So this is what it is, as-is, until I find time to return to it. I really loved where I was going with this piece, so I plan on returning to it eventually (maybe for my 500th Record?) In the meantime, anyone else is of course more than welcome to reMIX and/or continue it yourself!
:::::::::
So, this was my 100th RECord! And I wanted it to be special, so I put a lot of work into a BIG animation idea to complete for it…
However, a couple snags in animating and execution = the full animation took a lot longer than I thought. Time is always the hottest variable with animating, so no big surprise here, but I do have a couple other items/RECords that I want to upload on hitRECord while I am completing this animation, so, my 100th RECord is just another sneak peek of my progress so far and “to be continued…” This low-res, so I am sorry for the grainy quality and the pacing chops here and there, just keep in mind that the full-quality piece is a lot smoother.
The animation idea spiraled-off of Mirtle’s “raindrops” illustration (recently Featured) as well as time I spent diving deeper into Mirtle’s impressive, and completely inspiring, collection of work. We all adore Mirtle’s Illustrations, which goes without saying, and I think what is so captivating about each illustration is that they are so damn delicate while being executed with such strength (and I hope my animation can echo that.) The pieces have this wondering doodle quality but unlike doodles - that seem almost lost – these illustrations decide to create their own map and their adventures just screamed at me to be animated.
I also have fallen in love with eaneikciv’s “Yes, We're Sinking” audio RECord, and it came to mind as I was swimming through Mirtle’s work. Hence, the concept was born. It just swallowed me up. I had to begin working on it.
Pheew! That was a lot of rambling, but I hope I am making sense. I hope you enjoy the animation so far. It will continue it, and will carry the lil’ raindrop girl through a few more Mirtle-inspired adventures/worlds.
Not sure how this can be used on hitRECord, but I never know - you guys are so crazy creative!
For my "Intro to Metals" class, I made an Eadweard Muybridge tribute in Metals. I constructed a Copper Zoetrope and pierced Brass slides with his "Galloping Horse." This is a Stop Motion I made with the completed work.
For the curious, in-progress documentation can be seen here - www.flickr.com/photos/brookeduckart/sets/72157625144309896
EEKS!!!
Hee hee! Another random animation RECord.
Just showing another way these little guys (539499) could be used. You could print them out, cut them up and walk them around a room - try it!
Cut-outs available in resources.
New version. The last version's background was too detailed/distracting for how quick of a cutaway this will be, and the flower/characters looked WAY TO MUCH like Octopussies (hee hee) and not flowers. This is cuter, with the flower opening, anyways ;^)
(Hopefully, this upload works this time.)
2 lines towards the end of "and a new earth" (reprise). I was just working on Typography, but these visuals and movements struck me, so I had to make it all happen. Use it or not, I needed to get it out of my head. My little "narcotic moment of creative bliss."
When I envision "and a new earth" (reprise) I see the film starting smooth, to adjust the audience to the display, with a slower pacing of softer visuals in longer takes (easier to grasp and follow) but as the piece builds the pacing would increase and the visuals would become more and more chaotic... hence my treatment, because I would see these lines toward the end just sort of unfolding into each other. Make sense?
I have ideas for the next 2 lines that follow these as well, but don't want to jump on those until I get feedback on these, and my envision, since they follow very closely in style/treatment.
What do you think?
For MattConley's request/suggestion: ["* Take the clip of the Grandma (from the "Audition 3" resource) and add a grandma costume (bonnet, etc.) to give her more of a grandma look for that establishing shot. Personally, I think the cheesier and cruder the animation, the better."]
I was going to do something more colorful but too much detail or color took away from the actress and her little candid improv performance for the camera, which is too cute, so I kept it simple. Plus, the rest of this piece will be loud with color and detail anyways. Agree?
Feedback/Thoughts?
A side idea I had: Since it is pretty clean-black around her, maybe a fun handwritten "grandma" and playful arrows pointing at her too? But again, I don't want to add too much distraction from her cuteness, and the clip is so short, so maybe this is fine as-is?
I have no idea if anyone can use this, reMIX this, but it was a little Dynamic Type assignment I did a couple years ago. Forms with the Letters "B" and "D" - my initials.
However, these letters could represent many things especially as this piece is in a loop, in a cycle... such as: Death & Birth? Beauty & Decay? Beginning & Demise? What do you think?
Here's a little LRRH reMIX for you. I took cacheth's awesome "...the smallest snakes" added some "fruit" and a knife from dreamcoach's illustrations, and my own wolf standing behind the bush, in the forest.
Thoughts? Maybe a little too suggestive? haha
[Low quality for review and suggestions, and I'll add high-res as needed]
"Come, Little Red Riding Hood..."
The lips should sync with audio, they're the same frame rate, but let me know it they need tweaking ;^)
"BURP!" - the wolf after eating the grandma & little red.
"ZZZzzzzzzz..." The background floral pattern is actually my own grandma's wallpaper ;^)
If you all keep inspiring me, I am never going to get any sleep... hee hee
Once I am done with my "raindrops (remix) animation," I'll return to this. In the meantime, what are all of your thoughts on these ideas:
- to add much needed music (wherever that ends up - your guys are rocking it!)
- to add the text (timing it with lyrics? in a similar font stylization/treatment as under-ground hitRECord logo I created?)
- to add an establishing shot at the beginning (I am thinking fall leaves blowing that turn to snowfall?)
- to add some inter-cuts of side-animations (of the rabbits and the owls?)
Oh, and I'll make the animation over-all smoother, but I threw this together pretty quick to get the idea out of my head, and to get some feedback/thoughts/artwork from all of you ;^)
Thoughts?
GO!
This is only the beginning (and it needs a lot of work yet to be smoother) of a much larger animation I am currently working on, inspired by Mirtle's wonderful illustrations. Stay tuned ;^)
So this is pretty random, but you never know how creative people can be on here with strange resources, so...
I was out at a bar with some friends when I found these 2 shiny pieces on the floor. They were obviously broken off of something, but I couldn't figure out what from, but I did quickly figure out that if I layered one piece over the other it looked like a chubby little character. A character that, I decided in my buzzed-state, really wanted to dance.
I made an impromptu stop-motion with the pieces, right there in the bar. My friends thought I was nuts - ha!
All yours - make these deers come alive!

So, I had a small gap of free time between classes today and I made one of Artanon's Iteration birds (989046) fly. Maybe it can be used for the Iterations Collaboration (988659), maybe not, maybe it can be used for something completely different. Here you go <3
Maybe he's a little too bouncy, but I am sure that will be easily adjusted in the bigger project. I cannot wait to see if this gets used.
This was fun!
Looped animation cycle of Sia SassyPants's snail (998301) walking. On green key background for remix purposes.
I re-vamped my walking deer cycle to have a little bit of a watercolored texture instead of black... and thought maybe it could be used for the Iteration Collaboration (988659)?
This is sort of an odd contribution, but I worked on a stop-motion piece over this Summer that had me constructing a metal armature for the spider character: "The Cucaranchula." Through the process I tested the armature's walking and also made a time-lapse of some of the fabrication process. I looped them for fun, to show my Director, and then realised that they might work for unique resourced in the LOOP Collab (969123)? Odd ones, but they might be fun?
If you want to see some more about "The Cucarachula" project, you can check more out here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/brookeduckart/sets/72157630192246652/with/8084076999
I think this story would be really fun if we kept the animation to drawings that are more crude child-like renders. I did this little test with a chalkboard sort of aesthetic, but the whole animation could be child-like drawings in different mediums on different surfaces such as: markers on lined notepaper, finger paintings on newsprint, chalk on a sidewalk, crayon on coloring book pages, etc.
A little more Gooblygag fun.
I thought this could be a fun resource for others to add to and reMIX, potentially for the "outlaw" and/or "loop" themes we have going on.
[IDEA: I was thinking this could be a fun resource for a bumper? Shooting a perfect red circle into something - 007 style - and I think this would be a fun resource with it - http://www.hitrecord.org/records/196067]
You know how much I adore Muybridge (734490) so I had to get my hand into CaptClare's "The Muybridge Leap" (1031693) with some rotoscoping fun. Hope you all like it!
Just saw CaptClare's featured "What animates you remix" (1033054) that includes her Leap record - so amazing! - maybe this rotoscope chunk could get mixed into that? That would be rad <3
Motion Monsters #1
Testing out a few new After Effects tricks I have been learning. So here is a fun little test animation I made with jessolantern's "Perspective" footage (1018003) and Soupy's loveable "Frances" character (1010240).
The motion tracking is a bit rough and the lighting still needs work, but that's why this is a test animation and I am learning!
[UPDATE: I made a small series of "Motion Monsters" for a few days awhile back (this was one of them) to grow my After Effects experience and skills. Check out more of them here - http://www.hitrecord.org/records/1039562 ]
Motion Monster #2 "Mossy the Mushroom Monster"
Monster Construction:
Carrington 's "googlee eyes" image (258644)/
Background Footage: my own "mossy mushroom" photo (697753)
This take is much smoother because I removed most of the camera chaos that I had attempted; I wasn't pulling it off well at all, maybe I will try it again when I have honed more tricks and skills. I still left some of the handheld camera wiggle though, I like that, and I pushed the eyes' movements a little further. This is fun! I am learning so much on these.
*Also Note* This starts and ends exactly the same, so it is a loop-friendly animation.

My interpretation of the Bear and the Winter scene in Iterations(988659). What do you think?
A quilt is laid out for the tea party they will be having, but this is before they take items down from the tea and treats trees ;^)

[let me know if i missed any resources]
Motion Monster #3 "Dalkulla the Delicate Dust Demon"
Monster Construction:
sojushots's "Dalkulla" (684967)
Background Footage: pprescott's "Dust Particles" (970641)

Motion Monster #4 "
Mokupoku's Autumn Ride"
Monster Construction:
MelonBerri's "Mokupoku" (147550)

Background Footage from: Jerryliufilmmaker's "Fall Colors" (1010222)

I was playing around with some of the Dr. Sweet Tooth RECords. This is a fun little animation test. Lips are not actually saying anything, just playing around with facial movement.
Okay, wowzers, this took FOREVER for only 13 seconds. Damn.
I went for it and flushed out a short shot towards the end with a couple of powerful lines. The eyes are now looking around a little bit and emphasize some key words, lips are synced as close as my skills can reach, Puppet-Pins GALORE to get the facial features the way I wanted them, and added mood with lights/shadows. I would be thrilled if this was used in the final Dr. Sweet Tooth piece, but honestly this was more for myself to work out a couple of ideas I couldn't shake. I think it still needs work. Plus, maybe I went too complex?
HUGE hats-off to callmeishmael for all of his fantastic work on the character development and scenes. His artwork is so fun to work with! And to Edward Shallow for this crazy-ass World of Wonder that is starting to unfold.
Such talent. I am honored to work with you.
The elements/assets took me a couple days to finesse the way I like them for animating, so I don't want those to go to waste - I will upload the layered PhotoShop file tomorrow so that other animators can play with this scene. Please do! ;^)
[UPDATE: I got pulled into 3 large off-site projects for a bit, and I can't finish this off for a few... that said, it doesn't mean that other RECorders can't take a stab at adding to this and/or finishing it ;^) Go for it!]
Here's a low-res in-progess peek #2.
I am almost done, but there are a few things I want to fix up and I am thinking about adding a couple of fun elements to play outside the borders (we will see, not 100% sure on that yet) and of course I am working on a better ending transition and an ending scene, as well as the credit treatments.
What do you think so far?
[I couldn't resource Mirtle's original "Stay Away" Illustration. The link has been messed up for a bit now? http://www.hitrecord.org/records/739753]
Exactly as the title says. A red swirl dots experiment.
I am looking forward to see what can become of this - go!
