Here are the final mixes of the hitRECord On The Road shows from our November, 2012 tour. These are mp3 versions:  Quick to download, and decent-enough to listen to, but for further remixing or for listening on high-quality systems or at loud volumes, the WAV's I've uploaded separately will sound infinitely better.  Really:  mp3's turn high frequency detail into hash (cymbals hiss and snarl at you, violin sections slash at your eardrums, and in this case, cheering 2000-person crowds can get a bit strident to the tender-eared).

For those interested in the technical details:

The shows were RECorded by splitting all of the stage mics and inputs down two paths:  The first went to the live mixer, in order to manipulate the signals so they sounded good through the PA in the house, and the second feed went to our RECording rig, where the goal was to print everything clean, flat, with no processing, and with conservative levels to mitigate any distortion.  Lastly, we used two spaced pairs of mics for the audience;  Both sets of mics were placed either at the corners of the stage, or on the floor immediately in front of it, facing the audience (with the mics' null points facing the speakers);  One shotgun mic, aimed about 25 feet into the audience, and one large-diaphragm condenser mic flown higher, usually pointed towards the balcony.

We made sure to use good large diaphragm condenser mics for the Tiny Story readings, as well as for Joe's and the choir's sung vocals.

The RECording rig consisted of 16 channels of focusrite mic preamps, recording to a JoeCo Black Box RECorder.  Super-simple, clean, and direct.
