REmixes. Solo RECords. Tiny Songs.
everything but the kitchen sink.
and the beats, since they got their own album now ;)
now don't just be like "oh look, an album of RECords. ho hum"
listen to this stuff.
especially all you newer people.
there's a slew of music on here that dates back to my very first day as a user on HitRECord (1/1/11), so there's probably stuff you haven't heard, and may find useful, or entertaining.
so have a listen.
say hello to my first RECord, released 1/1/11
gtr/bass/drum programming/mix: meeeeeeeeeeeee
Neighborhood of F# in 6/8 time.
Frozen/Fading is a piece made a couple months ago, one quiet evening during a tough time in my personal life. The title represents the feeling of a moment frozen in time, yet it's fading, like a memory over time.
It was created by me playing my electric guitar with an E-Bow (a small device that vibrates individual stings via magnets, allowing infinite sustain), fading each note slowly in, through reverb and delay, with the delay set to "tape" and feedback 100% - the resulting effect is the notes keep playing over and over, decaying slowly as the "tape" loses sound quality. What you hear here is the "golden moment" - about 5 minutes into the delay's decaying.
Recorded live at 17th Street Recordings, Costa Mesa, CA - via Albeton Live Lite (v.8)
It can be used as background music for something, if found useful. Enjoy.
Happy New Year everyone!
WARNING: it may be a bit loud.
A small experiment in remixing vocals to some old & new music work.
the wonderful alyssa (aszarkowski) is sampled, as well as alpal's reading of the "ghost" poem, which i thought could fit into it somehow.
Vocal experiments included remixing alyssa's different readings, and playing the remixed vocal through a resonated-delay-treatment, and remixing her vocal into a more thinner small-speaker sound and put with the delay. i remixed alpal's vocal by tweaking EQ and adding larger reverb. The main drum beat and arpeggio motif I've had for a few months. The arpeggiating part is run through a delay setting i messed around with. New sounds are near the middle and end, including the synth and ambient sounds. The guitar part is from an old jam session a few months ago, with my guitar being put through my trusty BOSS delay and Slicer pedal. I let you figure out where it appears, teehee.
This is by no means a finished version, and I plan to do some more remixing to it soon. Maybe even add some more RECords to it.
Hope you enjoy it.
Oh, and listen with headphones too. [wink]
Recorded, programmed, arranged and mixed via Ableton Live Lite (v.8). Guitar recorded live via Ableton at 17th Street Recordings, Costa Mesa, CA.
Originally recorded on 10/9/09. No lyrics/melody. Recently remixed it with my updated Ableton.
Acoustic guitar (recorded live with pickup that attaches to soundhole, through a PolyPhone amplifier.), programmed drums, tamborine & synths.
Recorded at HotDang! Studios, Laguna Hills, CA. via Ableton Live Lite (v.6) - remixed via v.8
All instrumentation, programming and arrangement by me.
A little experiment with a reading of "Ghost" by doverpeak. I wanted to fit this into the "Ghosts (version 1)" RECord, but I couldn't find a good spot for it (my own reading of the poem got cut as well). But I wanted to include this "outtake" because I still like it.
Basically, it's a simple remix of her reading. Using Ableton, I stretched out the spaces between each break, to give it a little extra "pause" in between. When listening to the playback, I noticed that the track that was stretched created this little glitch-like sound (that's actually the sound file being literally stretched). I decided to have some fun and add a pre-amp and low-bit rate distortion to only the stretching parts. For the last one, I sent the "transpose" knob downward.
And here, is what came out of that. Hope you like.
Voice sampled and remixed via Ableton Live Lite (v.8)
This music was written in November, 2010. My words were written sometime around then, and I later put them with the music. The drums are the oldest, having been created almost a year before then, bounced from an old demo. Synth parts were added December, 2010. I added my own vocals overthe first part and chorus.
The last part to be added was Aszarkowski's vocals, which were a VO of a poem by Metaphorest. I liked the vocals, and in finding the key, happily discovered that it more-or-less matched my song, so after some snip-snips and time-adjusting, I did my best to fit it into this piece of music, which (in my opinion) worked out pretty well :)
I added a small "intro" - just because.
I felt another "gap" open if anyone wants to add to it. Still work-in-progress.
I hope you like it.
Warm thanks to Aszarkowski's beautiful voice and Metaphorest's beautiful words for filling my pages with color <3
I am under your pressure.
Wild-eyed and careless,
I've done enough to trouble the peace built between us.
Unannounced and instant,
As plates would below the earth.
I ask for no pardon, I ask for no favor,
Unable to surrender in this evr-constant warfare.
Though the trenches are flooded,
The letters are scattered about,
And one man alone must walk across the bones.
Long gone from home.
Unlock the doors and blow the windows open,
Stop the clocks and leave no truth unspoken
Although when living true you may feel lost
A thousand times, the prize is worth the cost
Let down the walls and drop all the pretences
Dismantle the trapdoors and barbed (wire) fences
Invite the good, the bad, the beauty in
Through once thick skin, now beautifully thin
Long gone from home.
Vocals (mine), sampled vocals (alyssa), acoustic guitar and synths - recorded, arranged and mixed via Ableton Live Lite (v.8), programmed drums via v.6
Variations of a drum rhythm I created via Ableton.
Was trying to find something to put this to, but I ended up deciding to leave as is, for the opportunity of someone using it and doing something with it.
Each variation is about 8 measures long. Enjoy.
w/o Alyssa's and Alpy's vocal, though i kept alyssa's effected vocals on here.
Lonely as stars may become, restless in dark skies above,
They never tire, rust or expire, leaving their wishes fulfilled.
This I could be unto you, laughing all the way through,
Falling and rising, though never disguising the constant rush of the thrill.
(ooh) Roll, roll with the tide.
As though I was just a grain of sand, washed back and forth on the sand,
With you as the sea, watching over me, I've nothing to lose or to fear.
And sometimes the roles are reversed, in that which we cannot rehearse,
This play we call life, the joy and the strife, perform with a smile and a tear.
(ooh) Roll, roll with the tide.
A fire still burns the by and by, a flame I could never deny,
Honest and just, a symphonic lust, pulling me ever to you.
So let's ride this wave to the end, guiding the break and the bend,
The tide will roll on, present and calm, sharing this love born anew.
(ooh) Roll, roll with the tide.
Inspired by my sister's dream of making her own zombie movie, I made this little piece of music of how I envisioned the survivors surveying the ruins before them.
Alpal is in there... somewhere... hehe.
Have fun with it.

This music was conjured up one inspiring evening in the fall of 2008, in my then-dwellings of Laguna Beach, CA ~ RE:RECorded the parts of the original demo guitar loop using my trusty Strat
The title "Molinos" comes from the Spanish word for "mills" (as in windmills) which is where my family's surname originates from. I named it such for the music, in a sense, reminded me of the gears of a windmill.
really liked how this came out on my Mega Mix, and so I made it as its own RECord. I restructured some of the parts, and added a electric guitar solo for the end.
I added the vinyl sound to mimic those awesome 1960s garage band 7" 45rpm singles that are now relics of an earlier RECording age.
Hope you enjoy it.
everything is on fire all the time.

When will I see you again,
my lover and my friend?
It's been so long since I've heard your song, as Autumn brings the Summer to an end.
Tell me where will you go, from the hills you only knew?
To the scene of great watery green, or to the lands where the stray winds once blew?
So Lover, sink down with me
Into the depths of this dark, blue sea
Sink down with me
Down into this unforgiven sea
Oh what things you do to me, in our decadent dreams.
Wrap me in your silly ways, and sway me again for hours upon end.
This is our time to fly, towards our chosen limitless skies.
And I will not hesitate to take the fall, for breaking all the rules we used to bend.
~this is a Stereo RECording~
the music of this REmix was born from finding the REmix made by TheMetafictionist of a piano/drum loop made by GwenInterrupted. I took part of it, slowed it down, and built a new progression on top of it. this REmix also uses a drum loop, also made by GwenInterrupted, which was sampled from a RECord made by Krrr.

My love ain't coming home no more
Like she always had before
My love aint coming home no more
She gave me the gift of song
Songs we'd sing, sing along
When she would come, come home
For many days I was by her side
The place she'd come, come to hide
When she would come, come home
I know that I've done you wrong
I know I've done, done you wrong
That's why I'm singing, singing this song
When you won't come, come home

REmixed and added bass, piano and maracas to Sarah's guitar/vox [REmixed thanks to her audio stems] and added a little coda at the end too.
feel free to take this and add to it. if you need stems, just holler
hope you like.
RE-REmixed my original, this time in mono
for those who don't know what a 'mono' mix is, basically it's when everything in the mix is *centered* as opposed to stereo where you have things on either side.
added some harmonica, maracas, and some cardboard box.
didn't care to adjust the tempo, just ran with Marke for this one :)
definitely going to mess around with this some more soon.
so here's the extended version of the REmix i made of Marke's blues riff.
i RE-RECorded the parts, added some bbbbass and added a middle part, based on Marke and Babbish's suggestion.
The format here is the main part 4 times through, then the middle part - lather, rinse, and repeat
The middle part's chords are C and G round a couple times.
Happy REmixing <3
something i cooked up tonight.

This is a piece I put together in early-September of 2009.

The saxophone is played by my friend Michael Baker. His solo is made of different fragments of him warming up, which I RECorded, cup up, mixed up, and put together.
I figure if you want to use this for anything, go right ahead.
had a rough afternoon. somewhere out of it, came this.
RECorded in the shade under the great tree that reigns in our backyard, I had this little blues lick and it fit with the words of Metaphorest's poem, so here's a rough little jam on that.
it's a blues in F major. i have no words for verses (yet), so i left little parts of this open to possibly in filled in with something. if one can think of or find words that fit the rhythm and mood.
happy REmixing <3
I've been yearning to do some good ol' Swing guitar on something through HitRECord, and Syoh's HitRECordette idea is just what I was lookin' for!
Here's a little swing jam i came up with this afternoon. If you'd like to add anything to it, go right ahead! I might add some bass with it later, and it could sure use some horns! :o)

i've been working on n off with this idea since mid-July. finally got some things on it to where i'm comfortable uploading it as a REmix RECord, but still trying to figure the fucker out.
anyhoo. i had some production fun here.
found a nice little panning-distortion effect for the original bass, which set everything into motion, and everything else (besides Pammy's voice, of course) is my contribution.
this is what i have so far.
if you got any opinion/critique about it, i wanna hear it.
if it sucks, tell me why, and i'll make it better.
if you think you can make it better, my sounds are yours to improve upon.

one of my favorite things to do on HitRECord is finding and putting together RECords that appear unrelated yet have even the slightest hint of a common thread woven between them.
When I was making my HitRECord 11:11 MegaMix RECord - http://www.hitrecord.org/records/375680 - I wanted to end it on a good, peaceful note. I wanted to include the Row Row Row Your Boat collaboration, and I wanted to use Joe's Nothing Big as well... So, rather than pick one or the other, I simply put them together :)
This REmix uses: Chase_Horseman's piano-only RECord the singing RECorded from SITC 2010 and of course, Joe.
Hope you enjoy.

Guitar, Bass, Piano, Drums by meeeeeeeeeeeee
with the exception of the drums, bass, and piano, all the sounds you hear on this were created with my guitar. i would create sounds using my pedal board (Boss Slicer and Whammy being the most prominently used pedals), and pick the best little bits from the liter, then loop them via Ableton.
The drums you hear were all artifical/MIDI, created, programmed and modified by me via Ableton.
I've always loved the fun challenge of making the real instruments sound artificial, and the artificial instruments sound real.
Always try to think outside the box.
as soon as he posted it, i got to work right away on Malicore's awesome tune.

so here i am across the lake
and left with little time
i look back on my journey here
and write this very rhyme
to tell you how it all began
as soon i will forget
a sacrifice i have to pay
until all is reset.
i'll be with you again, my love
perhaps not as before
but i will find brief melodies
to break us from our chores.
a momentary lapse, perhaps
through lovers who can see
in moments of divine desire
the ones we used to be.
the sparks that flew in our embrace
remembered in a kiss
flickers of our ancient love
in these human blips of bliss.
and that will ever be enough
to keep us burning bright
an ember can ignite a fire
one flame can warm the night
it's time for me to let go now
and be carried away,
but i take this message with me
so it may find you one day.
through whatever way it chooses
through whomever it may find
to remind you in your darkest hour
that we were once entwined.
when tragic moments break your heart
when lost within a crowd
when fear has taken hold
and when your stories roar too loud
just remember that it’s all a tale
a big game of pretend
and one day, as all stories do
ours will also end.
but we’ll meet again back at the start
with no knowledge of our birth
we'll do it all again, by heart
a new hevn and a new urth.
took Bell's vox and flipped them around.
came out interesting, eh?

all sounds created, composed, and mixed by me
added a little synth part to wirrow's reading.
I heard Expoobident's audio RECord (feat. Pamagotchi on vocals) on the recent Regularity, and I felt those tride and true REmixing urges REsurfacing...
I looked up the RECord, and after a having a listen, I felt there were changes, to both the sound and arrangement, that I felt would amplify the immense potential of this RECord.
So, rather than waste precious time figuring out a way to critique the changes in words, I did what I'm much better at, which is to act upon the changes myself.
Ultilizing the audio stems, provided by Expoobident and Pamagotchi, I went to work - REworking the arrangement, slowing the development without giving up the pace, REmixing and REarranging the sounds, all with Pam's magneficent voice carrying it, guiding it home.
So put on your good headphones, turn up your speakers, dance your heart out, and enjoy.
Instrumentation - Expoobident

REmixed fleurdely's Audio RECord
added assorted MIDI drums, electric guitar, and bass (played by me)
here's the order i put the arrangement in:
0:00-0:29 - intro/refrain
0:29-1:09 - verse
1:09-1:29 - refrain
1:29-2:08 - verse
2:08-2:28 - refrain
2:28-2:58 - interlude
2:58-3:37 - refrain
3:37-4:57 - interlude/end
a rough draft, it can be chopped up, added to, fucked around with, whatever. have some fun with this if you like. might add more to this at a future date.

This REmix contains only samples from the RECords resourced. No outside/extra RECordings were used.
this took nearly a full year after the original bass line & 'Ravens' RECords were released for me to 'crack' the idea for an arrangement that worked.
back in April 2011, i downloaded the audio stems that Albert, Sarah, and Matt uploaded to the site, and after trying some ideas that ended up not going aywhere, decided to put this REmix on hold until I could think of something suitable. Sometimes the best ideas come much later. Sometimes, it's better to put your impulses aside and allow time to pass...
in January 2012, I came up with the idea of looping Matt & Sarah's ending vocal lines which created the proper foundation, along with Albert's bass, for the song to move in a cohesive, structured direction. Everything else, the drums, guitar solo, format, followed suit.
And there you have it.
many thanks to Albert, Matt & Sarah <3
