Starting 11/11/2009, I committed to doing a weekly video entitled The REGULARITY. The idea of these is to gather us up, put us on the same page, and get us working together as a cohesive company. Here are all the REGULARITY's in one place! It still makes me jaw drop when I see how far we have come since 2009

CALLING ALL ARTISTS: Let's hear your ideas for new RE: Themes! They should be broad enough so all sorts of art can be created for them, but they should also be specific - like RE: Magic or RE: Midnight. You can contribute your ideas here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/867994

==

CALLING ALL WRITERS & TEXT CURATORS: Keep on writing new Dialogue Tales & curating Albums of your favorites so that we can turn these into new Short Films. You can contribute your records to the collab here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/671424

==

CALLING ALL ANIMATORS: Let's make an Animated Music Video for the hitRECorderly #2 vinyl track "Electric Loss." We wanna make an abstract, flat, and colorful animated world out of the artwork of Mukei Royalty for this video. You can contribute to the collaboration here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/873508

==

COME & MEET OUR NEW RESIDENT CURATORS: We were so pleased with how the Resident Curator initiative has been going that we decided to add 8 new Resident Curators to the team. CALLING ALL WRITERS: Check out Moreldi's bold character entitled "Voyager" here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/843904 & then write an existential cautionary monologue regarding what kind of post-apocalyptic wisdom this character might want to impart upon the viewer. After we have some text we can begin creating audio voice overs and animate this character into a short film!

==

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS: We're close to finishing our fun new song "Life is Shit Without You In It." The latest version is here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/854779.  We need Drummers, Horn Players, and Singers to contribute the final pieces. There's also plenty of ways that ANYONE can contribute to this song, so come play on our new song!

CALLING ALL WRITERS: Check out the album "Taxidermied Animals" by brookeduckart and let's see what kind of RECords we can create inspired by these taxidermied animals with strange expressions on their faces. We'd love to turn this into a series of stories, images, or videos!

==

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS: "Life is Shit Without You In It" is the kind of catchy, smart, and humorous song that we wanna make even more grandiose by getting even more voices and instruments on it. We need Vocalists, Bassists, Drummers, String Players, Horn Players, and Music Producers to come and collaborate on this song with us.

RE: hitRECord 5.0: Welcome to v5, ladies and gentlemen! By now you've surely seen a ton of hitRECord's new features, including the New Homepage, New User Pages, and New Dashboard. Marke, our Creative Director, has got the lowdown on it all, including some of the features that are coming soon!

CALLING ALL FILMMAKERS & VIDEO EDITORS: We wanna make this haunting and eerie audio record "Departures" into a SHORT FILM! Let's explore some abstract ways to visually portray the theme of Past vs. Present for this short film.

==

RE: CONTRIBUTING ARTISTS' CHECKS: I'm so stoked to announce we have a round of checks totaling $40,085.00 heading out to 261 contributing artists for  the "Inception" Dream Doc, Spring Collection 2011, and College Tour 2010.

One of our greatest shortcomings as a production company has been distributing payments to our contributing artists.  We've been working, re-working and ironing out a new monetization method to automate these payments so they go out in a more timely manner. My sincerest apologies on getting this round of checks out to you guys late. But we're catching up!

==

RE: CONTRIBUTING ARTISTS' CHECKS: We went to send out a  thanks to all the contributing musicians and producers of the hitRECorderly #2 vinyl! We all made something really special together and that's due to all the hard work from the production's contributing artists.

We're so excited for all y'all to hear what we made together!

CALLING ALL VIDEO EDITORS / FILMMAKERS / CURATORS! Let’s start editing together videos of our biggest live show yet: the 2011 Fall Formal. Now that the audio from the evening has been professionally mixed we can start assembling videos of the night’s musical performances, live readings, and conversations RE: Love. Let’s remix in other footage and images from hitRECord to get these videos looking extra sharp. You know how we do it!

CURATORS: Make an album of your favorite “Character Collab” contributions. We’re going to start making short films out of these characters so your curation and story ideas will be super helpful to the community. Make sure you contribute your albums to the collaboration.

CALLING ALL WRITERS / VISUAL ARTISTS! This week's Regularity is all about our new "Little Red Riding Hood" book! We have almost completed it but there are a few more requests to wrap up before we send it out to Iceland for print.

 ==

WRITERS: Write a brief statement (1-2 sentences, or a short paragraph) regarding the feminist themes found in LRRH. You can focus your writing on how LRRH relates to feminism, female sexuality, straying from "the path," or being a girl in a male-dominated society.

VISUAL ARTISTS: Find a piece of writing regarding LRRH's themes and visually interpret it with an illustration, a photo, or a combination of images.

ILLUSTRATORS: We need more drawings of the Mother character. Additionally, we are still looking for some of the scenery from the story. Please illustrate additional backgrounds like Little Red Riding Hood's house and the field of Touch-Me-Not Shrubs.

GRAPHIC DESIGNERS: We would like to create a wallpaper page featuring a repeating pattern of LRRH characters that will be on the back pages of the cutout characters.

CALLING ALL ANIMATORS / MUSICIANS / SINGERS / RAPPERS / VOCALISTS!

ANIMATORS / MUSICIANS: We are ready to animate Jelly Babies into a short film. It's gonna be a kick ass satire taking place on the sugary shores of Jellyland. Now let's bring all of the collaboration's awesome illustrations to life! Musicians, we need your instruments added to megancarnes' score. I love how it's sounding but we need to make it grander with more piano, brass, flutes, and strings!

SINGERS / RAPPERS / VOCALISTS: Your contributions to our track with the legendary Dan the Automator are great! But we isolated vocals like this uploaded so we can remix your audio. I really like JackMorrison's "The Links" and I think that layering harmonies over the beat is a great direction to go in. This is gonna sound dope when we print it to vinyl!

MEET OUR NEW RESIDENT CURATORS: Exciting news!  We have assembled a team of 8 Resident Curators from the hitRECord community to assist in featuring records. Each of the Resident Curators is not only a great artist in their own right but their recommendations have helped draw all of us toward records that the production company can use. I'm thrilled to have them on board!

The Regularity is here! And it's CALLING ALL VISUAL ARTISTS / ILLUSTRATORS / GRAPHIC DESIGNERS!

COME HELP US PUT TOGETHER A NEW BOOK!

We are going to bring the world of "LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD" to print!!!

We're going to create a book together that will include cut-out puppets. Let's start by creating to-scale illustrations of the main characters and from there we will create cut-outs of the clothingprops, and scenery.

Check out Marke's specs for printing this here:

This is for print, so everything should be at high resolution at and scale.

Here's the format you should use: Set up a photoshop file that is 8" x 8" and 300 dpi. Turn the rulers on, and scale your artwork accordingly. Then upload a high-res, flattened JPG here.

If you want to include dotted cut-lines and a base, that'd be great — but it's not completely necessary at this stage yet.

The scale is 1" = 1' (so if a character should be 5.5 feet tall, you should make them 5.5 inches.

First we'll want to establish the main characters in 1-3 poses each, and then from there we'll want to make changes of clothes, props, and other scenery (e.g. trees, etc.)

Here's a reference of the format we're looking for: http://www.vulture.com/2012/02/print-out-vultures-downton-abbey-paper-dolls.html

This week's REGULARITY brings an opportunity to sing on an Automator song and a New Company Director!

CALLING ALL SINGER / SONGWRITERS / VOCALISTS / HIP HOP ARTISTS!

Get on this track produced by the legendary DAN THE AUTOMATOR!

We are currently working with one of my favorite musicians/producers in music, Dan The Automator!  He took 30 to 40 pieces of hitRECord audio and made them into a seriously fantastic beat.  Now that beat needs to be made into a song - it needs vocals... your vocals!

So, who wants to jump on a track with Dan The Automator?

Plus - hitRECord is expanding so that our production company can meet the growth that's knocking at our door. One of the first orders of business is to take on some new staff.  I think we'd all agree that given the growth of the community, a Community Director is needed.  The Community Director will help curate the site, assist the community with daily support and to be a reliable line of communication between the company and the community.

The candidate for this position was an easy choice.  Matt Conley has shown his commitment as a team player countless times and he has been ever so consistent with making and running the RE-REC collaboration for over a year now.  I'm happy to make him hitRECord's first Community Director!

Thanks Again!

Calling all Writers, all Vocalists, all Visual Artists... EVERYONE. The REGULARITY is here!

In this weeks Regularity I cover a damn good writing exercise in the collaboration Dialogue Tales.

Dan The Automator and I request some vocals for the incredibly killer beat that Dan made just with HITRECORD audio records.

And I wanna bring back a big favorite and popular collaboration, Shadow Caste.  We have the concept and a bunch of great visuals and characters - let's start making some episodes out of it!

This week's Regularity is up and in full effect!

Jelly Babies - I absolutely love megancarnes' score to Day Glo's reading and she already has made video request for instrumentalists to come and play.  MUSICIANS - let's play on this score! Also - We need more visuals of what this Jelly Land will look like in order to lock down the aesthetic of the short animated film.  Check out elayne's and sojushots' contribution and lets keep moving in their creative direction!

BAD ADVICE - Marke gives some great examples of how to turn cliche phrases that we assume are "good advice" (but really aren't) and remix them into what we consider is actually some good advice.  He also advises us to really be sure that the remixed result clearly references the original.

Finally - I give an update on all of or payments to contributing artists of 2011

Thanks and thanks again!

The Regularity is here! And I wanna give a huge bravo and congratulations to all of us for a successful Sundance 2012! We did it and they loved it. But most importantly, I am very proud of all the records that we made, they are all wonderful they make a great evening of short movies.

Now, as we always do, let's start remixing all the live records from the show! And let's keep the ball rolling on our RE: INDEPENDENCE collab.  Use the discussions from the show and combine it with other work in the collab and let's keep making art regarding independence.

I also want to spotlight a couple new Collaborations.

JELLY BABIES is a great fucking idea guys! Composers, hop on board and write some music to Day Glo's incredible VO of Metaphorest's text.  Illustrators, keep up the good work so animators can come along and start making a short film with your characters.  And Screenwriters, let's begin adapting Metaphorest's text into a screenplay.

CITY AUTOPSY - check wirrow's new collab! Walk around your city and find treasure, as he says, it's open to interpretation!

And finally, it's a new year and I feel that this is the first time in a while where we have the breathing room to focus on improving our company.  We have grown, in fact, we have out grown what we use to be and I am making plan for HITRECORD to accommodate that growth.

If 2011 was as killer as it was, just imagine what 2012 has in store for us.

Thank you all for being a part of it.

Thanks again.

In this this week's Regularity! Reprise and RE-RECs...

Calling all Vocal Artists, all Audio Mixers, all Video Editors!

You might know our record "and a new earth", it is definitely one of the most impactful short films to have come out of HITRECORD and we play it at all of our shows. I was thinking that Sundance 2012 is a great reason for us to make another version of it!

I absolutely love the original, it's a beautiful piece both in style and in substance.  wirrow wrote the text and set it to a timelapse from the site while adding an instrumental track that he had made. The simplicity of it is what makes it so impactful. (here is the link to the original or you can check the resources below. http://hitrecord.org/records/141257)

But I've always wondered what it would be like if we took it to the next step because I feel this piece is really conducive to our mass collaborative creative process.

So here's what to do:

  • Vocal Artists, Actors, Poets - record yourself reading the text of the original video.  You can read it however you like, but it may be that the more similar to the original the better.

  • Audio Mixers - Mix together a large creative combination using these different recordings of everyone reading the text.

  • Video Editors - Let's start providing and editing visuals into a big montage that corresponds to the text. Remember, sometimes it's not the most literal connection that is best, but maybe something less obvious that still provokes the same sentiment as the text.

Alright, I want to screen this at Sundance 2012, so let'sget to work!

Thanks again

The REGularity is here! Calling all Illustrators, all Animators - I wanna see your "Man With A Turnip For A Head"... Let's make an animated short film out of Metaphorest's darkly delightful short text and Gary Oldman's glorious live performance of it.  First step is to design the main character.

ILLUSTRATORS: let's see your version of this guy.  He should be a prim and proper, buttoned up, completely normal looking man EXCEPT for his turnip head.  Draw him several ways.  Do some close shots and side shots.  Front and profile.  Maybe pick a few moments from the story and draw those.

If you haven't read or heard the story yet, follow this link -- http://www.hitrecord.org/records/590975 -- or click on the link below called "Turnip Head resources".

Once we've got the main character, we can start creating the other elements that will make up the settings and scenes, animate them, scoring the piece, editing it together, etc...

I wanna screen this at our upcoming Sundance show, so we're on a bit of a tight deadline, but between the lot of us, I think we'll be good.

Okay, Once again thanks to the community for the wonderful RE-RECommendations, there sure is a bunch of great work going on and you you all know how to REC them.

Thanks Again

The REGULARITY has many things to say this week but let's start with one word. SUNDANCE! You know it, we are going to Hit RECord at Sundance 2012! And guess what? Our show is going to be at the Eccles Theater on January 26th.  We are gonna make a bunch of new RECords for this show so let's get to work.

We've done a bunch of these "REgarding" Collaborations such as RE:LOVE, RE: CINEMA, RE: CITIES,RE: VINYL, RE: OCCUPY WALLSTREET, RE: HALLOWEEN, and I'd like to screen some finished products from these at our Sundance 2012 show. But we need MORE ART!

Here's what to do:

  • Check out one of these collaborations and find something that inspires you to make something new.

  • Then make a short film, animation, song, script or whatever you want within the theme and contribute it to the collab.

  • Editor's can then start taking these new pieces of art and combining them with some of the testimonials and conversations from our live shows.

Also, I recieved my first copy of THE TINY BOOK OF TINY STORIES VOL1! It's beautiful.  Good work everybody.

And what a great week it was for RE-RECommendations.  Keep 'em coming!

Thanks again

Our friends at !t books/HarperCollins love our Tiny Films!  They’re really great people over there and they love what we made for the E-BOOK. Thanks everyone for a great job! But, lets keep refining the ones we have and creating new ones — these films tend to go far.  We always screen a bunch of them at our live shows — you never know where they’ll end up!

Also, don’t know if you noticed but our website is moving a lot faster these days!  Thanks to Brett and his crew for helping us move HITRECORD to a server and a new video encoder.  There are still bumps in the road so thanks for bringing them to our attention.

And finally, I have an very exciting announcement to make… but not till next week.

Make sure to check out these weekly RE-RECs, there are some good ones.

Thanks Again!

This week's Regularity shines on with "RE:OCCUPY WALL STREET" and some killer RE-RECs! Let's keep creating Occupy REmixes. I finally went and RECorded a few hours of Occupy Wall Street footage, just as the NYPD had raided Zuccotti Park, where the movement had been centered.  All this footage is up on hitRECord ready to be downloaded and REmixed.

Now, I'd like to gather a whole bunch of Occupy records, and start making art out of them.

Contribute your photos and videos of the demonstrations.  Whether in NYC, Oakland, Phili, or any other Occupied place.

If you're not in one of those locations, I still want your perspective.  Contribute your thoughts by talking into a camera, or write them down.  Make a song, draw a cartoon.  You know, be creative.

Then we'll start taking all the records we've gathered and remixing them into clear and accessable works of art and communication.

Thanks again <3

This weeks Regularity requests, let's turn our Tiny Stories into Tiny Films! And I really want to thank all of you who were able to come to "Hit RECord on Halloween", I had such a blast. Now let's keep those killer Halloween Show REmixes coming! Plus - get your weekly dose of RE-RECs here!

Now here's what to do for the Tiny Films:

  • RECord a Voiceover of a Tiny Story that you think is suitable to be made into a Tiny Film.

  • Animators, take the illustrations of these Tiny Stories and animate them with a voiceover and music

I RECorded a bunch of voiceovers, so feel free to check out that album.

Okay,  The deadline is actually tight, but I don't want to startle ya so I won't say it.

Thanks Again!

This weeks REGULARITY gets all spookified with a Halloweeny sensibility! Partly because of our show in NYC on Halloween but also because it's my favorite holiday of the year.  And hitRECord is in full force of releasing wickedly wonderful RECords in light of the season.  So here's how you can contribute.

  • We need music and visuals to make a evil and cryptic Intro Video for our Halloween Show.

  • RE: Halloween is going to be our conversation piece, so please RECord your self telling us why you love or hate the pagan holiday.

  • And - if you are going to our show on Monday, lets make masks out of wirrow's 'Template Game' so when we walk out from the venue and into the Halloween mayhem of NYC we can all be unified as a sight to behold.

Plus - RE-REC's of the week of a Halloween theme can be found within.

Thanks Again

Also, let's make a new commercial for our RECord Store incorporating all the new goodies that we are selling.

And what would be a Regularity without RE-RECs! There were a lot of goofy contributions this week and ya, we used them!

This week the REGULARITY needs you to write!  Joel Stein from TIME Magazine asks your help for an article he’s writing about hitRECord.  Listen to the  hour-long interview that Joel and RegularJOE recorded and write a profile based on it’s contents.

Check out the "TIME Magazine Collaboration" for the details.

Also, it's not too late to contribute your expert twist of the BlackBook photos that can end up being used in BlackBook Magazines's special "REmix" issue.

Calling all Video and Audio editor's.  There are two great albums of resources that have been RE-REC'd from last weeks Live Shows in Seattle and San Francisco.  So, if your fixing to start cutting and REmixing this is a good place to start.

Thanks

In this week's Regularity I talk about us focusing our creative energy towards the "Strawberry Bootlaces Music Collaboration." All musicians jump on in and add your instrument of choice to the orchestration of ozie's beautiful underscore of DayGlo's wonderful writing/reading.

Let's keep working on more edits of the BFI show, Matt Conley proved that we have all the resources to make our live shows sound and look really great.

Plus, now it's time to start prepping our Tiny Stories Volume 1 Release with Tiny Story animations.  Tiny Stories make great Tiny Films.

And check out Marke's RECollection cover, he resourced all 56 of illustrations used, so lets keep workin with those resources to make more RECollection inspired art!

Ladies and gentlemen, it's official, we're gonna release a DVD/Book/CD/collection of our work so far... RECollection Volume 1. And, surprise surprise, the deadline is landing on us very very soon -- we're aiming to have everything done by JANUARY 1ST.

It won't be the first time we've gotten shit-tons of work done in no time. So let's do it.

VIDEO EDITORS -- Haus of Glitch is devising a new refined version of his 'Live Acts Megamix' which will go on the audio CD, and we are gonna cut a monster video to match his monster track. This one is all about cutting to the beat. The more ornate and intricate the beat gets the more images and cuts should be reflected visually.

SHORT FILM MAKERS -- I am loving the Tiny Stories Short Films that everyone has been making, really great job. Some are definitely going on the DVD, the more we can make the better. Keep in mind, while animation is a great approach since we already have so many illustrations, live action can work too, or anything else you wanna try.

CASUAL RECORDERS -- Of course Nebulullaby is going on the DVD. However, let's just spruce it up a little bit, shall we?
In the "Earth" section of the music video, we have many images of people going to bed and falling asleep. Let's add more!
RECord your bedtime and contribute it to this collab.

VIDEO EDITORS -- let's cut in many many more of these bedtime visuals into Nebulullaby's "Earth" section. Again, put those cutting points on the rhythm of the music.

TEXT and IMAGE CURATERS -- So part of 'RECollection Volume 1' is going to be a book. Help us curate what should be included. Create an Album of text and image RECords that you recommend, and contribute it to this collaboration. The more selective you are, the better, so limit your Albums to like 3 to 5 RECords.

VIDEO EDITORS -- Take a look at HelloLindsayyyyyy's "All 3 SiTC's in 30 Seconds" ~ http://hitrecord.org/records/273123 ~
She did such a killer job that this video is definitely going on our DVD. And I want to make similar videos for "Sundance", "SxSW," and our "College Tour 2010" to accompany it.
So let's look through all the uploaded records from these events and make a 30 second video that captures all that went on there. HelloLindsayyyyy's speedy narration approach worked great, so feel free to do that, or try anything else, as long as it's 30 seconds or less.

Well, it's the end of the year, and most likely this is my last Regularity video of 2010. What a crazy ride this year has been for me, for us, for hitRECord. Working with you guys has exceeded all of my expectations. I am so proud of what we have accomplished this year, and I can't fucking wait to do it all again in 2011.

Thanks again <3

Hello everyone... We Made A Book!!!!

That's right hitRECord.org's first publication, "The Tiny Book Of Tiny Stories" is on sale now!

Calling all animators and short film makers! Let's make some "Tiny Films" shall we?

Marke selected 15 candidates from the "Tiny Book of Tiny Stories" to be made into short films. http://www.hitrecord.org/records/278414

We have the words, we have the illustrations, so let's make them into short animated films!

I'll be RECording some voiceovers for you to use and there is plenty of other audio on the site as well.

So let's get cracking.

Also, it's time to spruce up the look of our RECord Store!!!

Photograph yourself wearing hitRECord.org t-shirts and hats so we can use them to display our apparel with some style.

Now, I'm not talking about just a snapshot of you in a shirt... no.

Let's make really good looking images with some artistic flare to them so we can replace those generic looking photos that are up now! Soon, the entire RECord store can be a beautiful site for the eyes!

Finally, The Inception Dream Documentary was released this week, super exciting to see our RECords on a freaking Inception Trailer!!!

and

SxSW Profits have been finalized so we will be sending those checks soon enough!

Thanks Again,

J

Hello again everyone...
Been a little while since my last REgularity and although I am not up to my full Regular self I really want to start focusing on some projects with you.

Firstly, lets remix fajigajiga's "The Anglerpod Votes" beautiful short animation piece into a brand spanking new short film.
Writers, write a story based on the imagery and actions of the anglerpod. Video Editors, lets RECut the original into a whole new visual narrative. Find out more at the collaboration I started here at http://hitrecord.org/records/269518

Next and most immediate, Jared, Marke and I have decided to make a "Tiny Book of Tiny Stories" to sell at our RECord store! We can keep writing and illustrating more tiny stories if you like, but what we really need is some solid curation of the ones that are already written. Lets go through wirrow's collaboration of Tiny Stories http://hitrecord.org/records/56986
and make an album of the one's that we believe should be in this beautiful book (text and images only). Then we will submit our album of Tiny Stories RECommendations to Marke's collaboration "Tiny Book of Tiny Stories. http://hitrecord.org/records/269395

Finally I just want to mention, there's been lots of great work happening around here while I've been away. It'll take me a while to catch up, but I'll get there. Particularly, the "saving stitchtown" collaboration is looking great, can't wait to get more involved myself.

Okay, it'll be a bit more time before I get back to weekly Regularity videos, and in the meantime, much thanks for all the love and support from this whole community.

Thanks again <3

Hello Ladies and Gents!!!
Yep that's right we got another show to do, and this time it's a big one!.

So let's get ready ........

Find out here what you can contribute for hitRECord.org's FALL FORMAL.

We are calling all writers to jump in on couple big projects.

Fake Histories are getting really good, so let's keep making them.

I really like fredwatford's "Road to Fall Formal" collab, so let's all shoot ourselves getting dressed up fancy style like we are going to the theatre, and then we can REmix them into something really cool.

And let's check out Nebulullaby and add some new things to it.

Tickets are selling hot... and this venue is no joke.... so it's a great sign of how things are going pretty good for us!

So keep up the good work and let's put on a show!!!

Thanks again,

Well, once again the next and final 'SITC' show is........ tomorrow!

Thank you all who attended, watched, contributed and especially remixed for the last show. It was an incredible evening.

Find out what we are doing for the show tomorrow and how you can contribute to be a part of it!

Help sifting through the 870 contributions of the RE: CITES collaboration and make an album of the RECords that you think are golden. Name that album your "selects" and contribute it to the collaboration "RE: CITIES Selections."
http://hitrecord.org/records/196702

We pulled out an awesome rough draft of the "Glitch Live Acts" music video in just 24 hours. Now lets refine it some more and really focus on making a high energy 'Glitichified' ending.

Also, we need a brand new INTRO for the show. Follow the script and lets make a completely different version than the previous 2. Do whatever you want with it.... surprise me.

And, now that we have so many great readings of our tiny stories from the 'SITC' shows, lets incorporate them with some music and moving images and make some tiny videos to screen at the show tomorrow.

Well, I can't tell you enough how great it's been doing these shows here in NYC and how incredibly awesome our community has come through with REmarkable REsults for us to screen.

I cannot say it enough....

Thanks and thanks again.

VIDEO EDITORS! Check out the collaboration Glitch 'Live Acts' Video. http://hitrecord.org/records/186702 haus_of_glitch came through like a champ with multiple remixes of our 'Live Acts' submissions. We're gonna play "LiveActs Upbeat Version 2.0" at the show tomorrow. So let's collaborate to make a rough edit of visuals for this track to project along with it tomorrow night. Then we can refine it and make it perfect in the future.

We're still refining our results with the Row/Alice/Dream collab and RE: Cities, keep up the great work you all have done so far.

Also, Looks like we have so many great tiny stories coming in that I am hoping to print a completely new book of them for this weeks show.

Alright, again we will be streaming and RECording all the way through the show tomorrow. "Keeping the RECord spinning" as they say.

Plus, I want to kick off the "RE: Cities" Collaboration. Let's begin it now and see how it grows for each show here in NYC.

We are going to be printing a "Tiny Book of Tiny Stories" to hand out at the shows while also screening a bunch of tiny stories movies as bumpers, so this is the time to jump in on the Tiny Story Collaboration.

Finally we released of SXSW profit distribution proposal, so please take a look and give us your feedback.

And if you can't make it on monday, never fear because we are gonna stream the whole thing live right here on hitRECord.org. And of course, everyone there will be RECording it.

I wanna talk this week about RECommendations. When we hit the heart to recommend a RECord we are not just saying that we "like" this RECord, no, we are giving our professional, artistic, creative opinion that we RECommend this RECord to to our production company.

This is how the cream rises to the top here, is by us collaboratively curating or own REcords, like a mass DJ.

So, I decided to go back through some of my recent RECommendations and choose 10 that I reRECcommend and make an album of them. Then I submitted that album to "The reRECommendation Collaboration."

If we can all start reRECommending RECords once a week in this fashion, I truly believe we can help our production company go through such a high volume of RECords and reveal the gems that we may want to produce.

Thanks Again,
J

Welcome new hitRECorders! Here's 10 Collaborations I'd love for you to work on. Click on RESOURCES below for links to the collabs' pages.

Now, everything we work on here at hitRECord.org has the potential to make its way into one of our Productions. Maybe it gets screened at a live event, maybe it ends up on the DVD/book we're putting out, or who knows what else? These ten projects in particular are going so well so far, I think it's only a matter of time before they end up produced. So hop on and contribute! Please :o)

Also, Jared is almost done with the first phase of logistics to get our contributing artists paid for our last Production at SxSW. Next week, we'll post our proposals, as we do, and once the community has had a chance to discuss everything, we'll be sending out those checks.

Our next Production will be three shows this summer in NYC called SUMMER IN THE CITY. It's gonna be a rockin night out on the town.

Now get to work!

More INCEPTION Dream Doc RECquests

Here's a request coming from Roko, the documentarian who's making this movie:

Concepts we'd like hitRECorders to be inspired by as they create:

- dreaming and creativity (dreams are in some way the ultimate expressions of our creativity)
- the vagueness between different states of consciousness (including waking and sleeping. The spaces in between...)
- losing yourself in a story / dream / movie --  losing the boundaries of your self

Some specifics to illustrate:

-worst case scenarios, e.g. nightmares
-Freudian unresolved wishes - sex etc.
-our brains create a model that we consider to be reality. In waking it's dictated by a physical world that filters through our senses (sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste). In sleeping the brain creates freely, untethered by an external physical world.
-the phenomenon of sleep paralysis, sleep paralysis disorder, sleep walking, sleep behavior disorder
-dreaming is a creative act, your brain is an artist and filmmaker
-every character in your dream is you. In your dream you are essentially speaking to yourself.
-having novel ideas in dreams. Some Nobel prizes and works of art are accredited to inspiration from dreams
-the archetypal dream of school exam anxiety where, in your dream, you show up to school to learn that you have to take a major test that you're completely unprepared for.
-the archetypal dream of seeing someone close to you who has died.
-the idea that dreams are not just all in your head, they may be a portal to another reality -- a parallel universe.

SxSW 2010 was some of the coolest shit hitRECord has done yet, THANK YOU! Now let's make some RECords about it. Tons of Resources have been Released, videos, photos, writings, now it's time to remix it all into some Results.

Video editors, let's make the hitRECord SxSW 2010 mini movie! But not just video editors, we'll need music, graphics, words, and anything else.

Or, even if you're not gonna cut some video or make some music, you could really help this project by compiling an ALBUM of your favorite SxSW RECords. Going through the extensive footage we've got and making selects is an invaluable part of the process.

In other news, we're closing the books on Sundance 2010. Two weeks ago we proposed numbers for how to divide up the Contributing Artists' profit pool. We've gone through all of your remarks on those proposals, and we'll be releasing the revised and finalized numbers this week. Then in the next two weeks we'll be gathering the contributors' info so we can send out the checks.

Hello from British Columbia!

SXSW is next week and we've got some work ahead of us. (Once again, our friends at G-Tech will be sponsoring us at SXSW, so if your work is screened at the festival, you'll participate in those profits.) We're starting to hit you with some REquests - MMM 2 score, bumper videos, backdrop videos, invitation - keep your eyes directed to the REMARKS Drawer for those. If you'll be in Austin, please come to our events on the 16th and 20th - they're going to be awesome!

Here's a rundown of the events we'll be presenting at SXSW:

March 16th - 10p // G-Tech Theater @ The Austin Convention Center
"An evening with hitRECord.org"
A program of short form media created by Joseph Gordon-Levitt's open collaborative production company. Hosted collectively by the hitRECord.org community and featuring live music by hitRECorders Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl of The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.

March 20 - 9p // G-Tech Theater @ The Austin Convention Center
"Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the hitRECord.org Spring Spectacular"
Joseph Gordon-Levitt curates and hosts an evening of short films, live entertainment and collaborative RECording. Featuring a performance by hitRECorders Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl of The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.

March 20 - Midnight // Alamo Drafthouse RITZ location
Short films, beer, movie set, vaudeville, musica, RECordling, collaboration, live

The Sundance profit distribution conversations are going to be closed on 3/14, so there's still time to get your voice heard - we want to hear from you! Then its time to send on those checks.

Rian Johnson recently wrote and directed THE BROTHERS BLOOM; his first one was BRICK. And now, he makes his first foray into hitRECord collaboration with a poem he has written entitled The Man in the Herringbone Hat.

He's thinking maybe we do it first as sort of an audio-play like the old radio days. Who wants to do a reading of it? I will soon. But we'd really like a variety of voices. Especially an old man's voice. Anybody got a grandpa with a flair for a turn of phrase?

The future is bright! Sundance screening artist compensation numbers ever so close! Almost done cutting new episode of Morgan, co-starring our new Lionel, Chan! Also next week, I get to announce plans for our next production!

Regarding Alice, I've an idea that I haven't quite got to finish trying out yet. But I think it could make for a loopy right RECord.

Mostly just thanks again for Sundance. We're hard at work figuring out the specifics towards paying all you contributing artists, and this Friday I'll be making the first announcement about that. Also, Alice hits RECord, a looking glass collaboration in the works. Then there's Reluctant Her.

PS - I'm calling this #12, even though there isn't one titled #11 right now. I guess all those Sundance RECquests will have to count for #11. Hey, if anyone wants to cut together a bunch of stuff from Sundance into a Regularity #11, it'd be some holy work!

Our new website HITRECORD.ORG version 4.0 is up and alive. So let's get to work! You might have seen the video THE NEW DEAL. It needs further refinement. More visual layers, more music. Perhaps a re-cut of a shorter version. Other ideas?

Pardon the site's bugs -- we figured we'd let you guys in while we're still putting the finishing touches on the place. First of all, because it's working well enough for us to get back to work, and also because we thought you might want to help. The BugMaster is on the case, let him know any problems you see.

I'll be getting another Regularity video up soon with more ideas for contributions.

THANKS!

new hitRECord.org version 4 coming in "about a week". ~~ Morgan M. Morgansen ~~ Sundance

Firstly, I can't remember which RECord I resourced at 4:54 for that "SUNDANCE 2010" on the computer screen. I apologize, can someone remind me?

Yes, it's going to be about a week, and then hitRECord.org v4, the new website, will be launched and liv!! Ahh, we've been working on this for such a long time, I can't wait for you guys to see it. It's gonna make our collaborative creative process so much more effective and fun.

Morgan M. Morgansen, the collaboration continues. Lots of great contributions. Discussing color schemes. Drawings, videos, dancing, birds, photos. Still lots to be done, what do you want to throw in?

Obviously, there's lots of collaborations revolving around our upcoming stint at SUNDANCE. But I hereby want to start one to make a 5-10 minute video about Sundance itself. Most of this video will probably be RECorded during Sundance. But we might as well start now. There's lots of Sundance stuff from last year that we can begin to remix. I'd also love to see what you guys might RECord regarding Sundance. What does it mean to you? When did you hear about it? What are some of your favorite films that have come out of Sundance? Etc...

One month to SUNDANCE ~ Morgan & Destiny's date with you ~ hitRECord Invitation ~ desk drum Resources

Last night was the longest night of the year. Lula and I spent it editing. I really think Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny is going to Sundance. We just gotta finish it, and we need your help!

The Invitation is also coming along great. TanjaTHEawesome made a super-pro-beautiful animation to go along with it (can't wait to see what she does to MMM!). Miss Awesome, I'd love to get a Resource version of your Invitation video without the music. The music you chose is great, but I'd like this video to have music we all made together. And everyone else keep the contributions coming -- Tanja's video is wonderful, but there's no reason we can't keep going with it.

In desk drum circle news, Albert uploaded a .zip of all the different pieces he cut up and looped to make his remix. That is a perfect set of Resources that I intend to make use of toute suite!

Also, the Secret Santa collaboration is fantastic! I love that you guys are making physical objects that represent hitRECord. I do indeed think that while 1s and 0s are destined to be free, physical objects offer we artists a legitimate way to sell our work. All the cooler of you guys to be giving them away!! ;o)

Have holy winter days, ladies and gentlemen...

written conversations, scored cartoons, and our mMman Morgan ~ new collaboration: An INVITATION

sorry I'm a few minutes late on my weekly regulation. I was trying to get it in under the wire, so I haven't cut it up, put in any of the clips, or anything. Um, anybody feel like doing some of that? It'd certainly kick ass if the community helped make these community-oriented videos. In due time, I'm sure we'll get there.

here's my notes from this weeks regularity:

The REGULARITY ~ December 12, 2009

writing

A Short Cartoon About Doors by KamPAIGN
used writing by A Short Conversation About Doors by casvellon
used a bunch of other resources, and notably the Desk Drum Circle, more on that later

Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny
by Metaphorest
mushr I read it
drawings by jenyffer.maria
animations by tori
let's make more visuals
Jen, if you can draw the characters in a few more positions, we can probably just use those over and over. Profile, three quarters. A few different emotions. Or probably better, just keep doing like you're doing and picking out scenes and moments and drawing those.
who's gonna act some of this stuff out?
I think the visuals can be a hodge podge, don't have to be consistent

Desk Drum Circle
JeffPeff did some music editing. Quantizing some of those beats. slow and steady, let's start putting the pieces together. again, awesome Kam already used it in a larger context

now,
an invitation

i want us all to collaborate on a video that invites anybody and everybody to come be a part of hitRECord and participate in our collaborations for Sundance.
I already started it.
I'm gonna release the script, right after I release this Regularity video (which is almost late!)
We don't have to stick to that script, in fact, if you feel like re-writing it, refining it, adding to it, please do.
I also RECorded a basic reading of the script so far. It's simple, just me talking to the camera.
I'd like us all to add on to that.
We need visuals to go along with the ideas and sentiments.
photos, drawings, other videos
also it'd be cool if you guys want to do a reading of the script, or some variation of it. the more the merrier.
For example, at one point, I'm like, hi, I'm joe, this is hitREcord, say hello everyone. Can everyone RECord themselves saying hello, or hi, or what's up, or hola or salut or something?
And just get creative with it. Do whatever to it. I'd like to really focus on this one this week (along with Morgan and the Desk Drumming). Let's get it out to the world soon. But it's gotta be better than what I've done by myself. So have at it!

Desk Drum circle continues -- writing intended for reRECording

This week, I talked about the continuing collaboration known as the Desk Drum Circle. I also had a thing or two to say about writing. Well, since I'm writing this description, second things first.

WRITING. There's a lot of good writing on hitRECord. Now here's how I'd like to take it a step further. I'd like to see more writing that is written and released here with the intention of becoming something more. Write something that's meant to be read aloud. Write a script that's meant to be acted out or animated. Write lyrics that are meant to be sung or recited.

Here's some more specific suggestions:

Write some words intended to be spoken/sung/rapped/recited along with the Desk Drum Circle.

Write something about Sundance.

Write a script for a comedy sketch.

Write a script for any sort of short form media piece.

Or, for those who don't want to write...

Try the reverse. Find a piece of writing on hitRECord that you like, and reRECord it into something new. Turn it into a video, or a song, or a speech, or a drawing, or a photo, etc. Use a piece of writing as a Resource, and Release that new Result.

Alright go!

I love how the Desk Drum Circle is coming along. Everyone's contributions are awesome! In the video, I highlighted some that I found particularly remarkable. Now, what this collaboration really needs at this point is this...

CALLING ALL MUSIC EDITORS!

We need you (and I'll do some too this week) to go through these various resources and chop them down to the good bits. Every contribution has some parts that are on rhythm and some parts that are off rhythm. If we can just sample those on-rhythm bits, and put them all together, looped onto a grid of 120 BPM, we will end up with one hell of a tight beat.

That should do it for this week.
Thanks...
J

Rehearsing for Sundance -- Desk Drum Circle

55 Days until Sundance.

Let's get together and rehearse. So when those ten days arrive, January 21-31, we're a tight unit, well prepared, and able to show the world how productive an online collaborative community can be.

I'd like to try out a sort of easy collab idea. Desk drum circle. Don't need any instruments. You don't even really need a desk, you could bang on anything. Although I think it'd be cool if we all did it on desks. We'll mix up all the Resources into one big banging beat. And then, of course, who knows what might happen? To paraphrase ManWithHat, the director doesn't always know exactly what she's doing.

Down there in the list of Resources, there's a link to the Desk Drum Circle collaboration. Are you RECording?

Raw from New York -- Contribute your ideas for what these weekly "directorial" videos should be.

I'd normally like to edit these a bit more. But this week, I'm fortunate enough to be working in New York, hosting Saturday Night Live. Wanna refine it for me?

11/11 pleased me to no end. And so begins this weekly ritual where I attempt to gather us all up and do something focussed together. I'm doing this every week now. And I figure by the time we get to Sundance January 21-31, we'll be a productive force to be reckoned with. By the way, I think the official news about Sundance came out today. You heard it here first :)

I thought a decent place to start is just to hear your thoughts on these weekly videos. Why do you think they'll be useful? How might I and we make use of them? To feature or remix certain Recommended RECords. To demonstrate my techniques with cameras, microphones, computers, etc? To start Collaborations? To contribute to existing Collaborations? Perhaps to highlight the work of one particular hitRECorder? These are all things I plan on doing in the coming weeks. I'm sure you have other ideas I haven't thought of. What are they?

You can answer that by simply writing a remark in the Forum. Or, it'd certainly get your message across stronger if you turn your idea into a work of art! Make a video about it, or draw a picture, sing a song, anything, you know how it goes here.

Starting now, I'm gonna be making videos sorta kinda like this one on a regular basis.

Such a day this day. Damn everyone's really come to play today!

Here's my Regular Rhetoric for the day. It could still use some spicing up, if anybody is wondering what to do to pitch in on this special day, I'd really love to have some more visuals and/or sounds mixed in with all this talking.

Now enough of the sensical stuff. It's time for an exercise in aesthetic remix. Jeez, think there's enough Resources to use?
