Some stuff that I listened to on here that I particularly love and believe would be great for projects. Everything in this album now resides on my iPod. :)

Decided to put my voice towards Mushr's words on the love of words. I have a bit of the sleepy 'it's 2:45 am' voice, but I think this adds to the love of it all.

taking; cutting; stretching; mixing...

i used a bunch of the loops albert had kindly uploaded in a .zip file to create another mix of the desk drum circle bonanza...

tempo: 132bpm

--

there was some confusion as to which resources the particular loops i used came from, so i've just cited all of them. if anyone has any objections, let me know!

A cheesy but hearfelt little tune about this magical place and why it is I stick around...

Oh and please add bits/yourself to it! Clap your hands, shake your keys, sing along - whatever you feel like!

Lyrics!

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record

Again by heart
from the start
I could see
that you were all like me
And you wanted to be free
to share the things that made you happy

There's a kind of synergy
when a brain
and another brain collide
I'm not just me
I'm a cog in the wheel
of a giant family

I wanna make my mark
make a spark
that makes you wanna
make magic, make art
I wanna hit your heart
like cupid with a dart

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record (x3)

Foray into messing with loops in garageband

So this is very messy and unfinished - Ive got no idea if this works - never made a song using loops before. If you think you can add/remove stuff and improve this please do! I don't really know what I'm doing. I can send separate tracks if you need em!

Also I set out to make something along the lines of Portishead/Joanna Newsom/Massive attack but I think I might be ripping some of them off inadvertently - do let me know if it's TOO like something.

Lyrics:

Molasses thick, sugar slick
These metaphores less than perfect
Your words penetrate me like an arrow
But the sharp end is facing back at you

Volcanic rock, I am built
On shifting layers of silt
Older than the Earth and harder than its core
I'll leave you wanting more...

A song I wrote in tribute to the wonderful, tragic, sadly overlooked Jackson C. Frank

Look the guy up - such a tragic story - such a talent. Just don't listen to his songs straight after mine - the contrast in quality may give you an ear attack :)

ok! so i am in a state of.... well lets just say im at a loss at how to drain my creative energies.

I am a lover of the physical connection of music and imagery, and usually this translates into spending endless hours taking photos of musicians and other beautiful people i come across in my life, as well as writing music with anyone i can find willing to work with me!

at the moment - all 5 of my cameras are broken in some way. yes - this makes me sad.
also, the main man that i collaborate with musically has decided he needs to find himself and has run away to try and do just that.... so now im stuck with nothing!

so im going to start putting my small ideas for music up - it is my dream to get all of it together, hear other peoples ideas and put the music to beautiful ambient imagery.

so heres the first thing i could quickly scrounge up out of my subconcious... its not the best i know, but i will over the next few weeks upload more completed works, and once i figure out how to make enough money to repair my cameras, maybe ill start adding some photos as well!

ive been rambling way too much. take this little idea for a song and add some swirling keys over it. get some drums. film your neighbourhood from your ankles. shoot from the hip, as they say.

So a certain Lawrie Brewster challenged me to write a song about the painter Goya...and, loving a challenge, I hit up Wikipedia and came up with this!

I have chords again, this time I didn't even have to make up any :)

Em D
You painted disasters of war and descents into madness
Em D
They called your nude maja a whore and poured salt on your sadness
G D F C
Blackened Myths, Mirrors, and Memories of you take hold
Em F D Em
If only your father the gilder had sealed you in gold
Em F D C
If only your father the gilder had sealed you in gold

C Em
You painted yourself in the foreground
C Em
With the monsters and men but without sound
F C
a life lived in silence, in torment
F Em D
We’ll never know Goya what you meant

Em D
They say you fought bulls in your youth, now you fight your own fears
Em D
Between the clock and the bed, left to count down the years
G D F C
At Quinta Del Sordo you lived in the house of the deaf
Em F D Em
And painted black paintings when blackness was all you had left
Em F D C
And painted black paintings when blackness was all you had left

C Em
You painted yourself in the foreground
C Em
With the monsters and men but without sound
F C
a life lived in silence, in torment
F Em D
We’ll never know Goya what you meant

Em D
The absence of reason bred monsters inside of your head
Em D
Your paint was a poison, they say you were deafened by lead
G D F C
The Gods eat their sons and your daughter was branded a bastard
Em F D Em
You spent your last days wishing death’s sweet release would come faster
Em F D C
You spent your last days wishing death’s sweet release would come faster

C Em
You painted yourself in the foreground
C Em
With the monsters and men but without sound
F C
A life lived in silence, in torment
F Em D
We’ll never know Goya what you meant

A layered remix of Casvellon's reading of Metaphorist's "The Sorrow Bird - Poem" using various other records I thought would fit well with the poem.

My first attempt at audio editing, sorry if it's a little rough. Remixed using Audacity. I can upload the different tracks I used upon request.

One thing I wanted to add, but was having trouble with was an accelerating heart beat in the background (using Jolynne's "Heart Beat-Throat" record).

Mushr's writing felt good to read. So I read it. And RECorded it.

Feels like a cartoon or something. Anybody got any visuals to reRECord over this? Animation? Even just a drawing or two? Photos? Video? Interpretive dance?

Also probably could be a fun place for some music. Sound effects.

i am a singer/songwriter from philadelphia, pennsylvania. i try to write songs that feel like those few seconds of happiness that rush into your heart and disappear just as fast - but you're thankful just the same for having felt invincible, if only for a moment. when i am not writing music i am in a med program, and i live with my pet parrot fish sam. i'm releasing my second EP in 2010, i hope to share my music with you and hopefully it makes you happy.

I recited the words. It needs reRECording. Music? Visuals? Please, it's my birthday!

It would really be the best present I could ask for. Even if you don't do a whole big thing with it. If you just add a little something to it. Some line reminds you of something you saw. Or you think it would go well with a certain ambient sound effect. Anything, I don't know. Any RECords you think might fit, Contribute to WoodyFannon's birthday Collaboration. Or, if you're up to real heroics, remix the Resources into a Result.
Thanks again

Ok, so this isn't in the spirit of MMM probably at all... but I really liked Mangoose's beat (he uploaded it over on the V4 beta, but I can't seem to find it here to reference) and these words just seem meant for rhythm... so, what the hell.

Small, unnecessary disclaimer: I've never edited audio before, so I was sorta just fooling around in GarageBand for practice. I'm trying to branch out my hitRECording remix skills beyond visual design :)

Another literature class assignment. This time we had to write a love letter. Since I've never been in love, and I don't let people tell me what they think love is, this is all I could come up with. My friend says that because I've never experienced it I can shape it what I want, the way I want it.

This one feels different when I listen to it than when I read it though.

Text:
"I'm on a train, sitting next to the window. The landscape outside is beautiful, and Sofia is sleeping. It looks like nowadays nobody travels anymore, they're all too busy running to not be late, they don't take deep breaths anymore. It's just the two of us in this carriage. But I don't complain. I like the quiet peace, and the silence that is only broken by the sound of our daughter breathing. Maybe, and most likely, when you read this, we'll be home, having a coffee with Josephine, talking about good old times, looking at photo albums.

It gets cold in our bed without you. It's sad to turn around and not crash with you, with your body, your smell and your smile. Sometimes Sofia sleeps with me. Sofia, who keeps growing and growing, and with signs and words in her language asks me to put a Bob Dylan record on. It reminds her of you. It reminds me of you...

I remember when we met, we were wearing the same Beatles shirt. Now, Sofia wears mine as a dress and I wear yours, and sometimes, without planning it, we wear it the same day.

She's got your eyes, your nose... your hair. She's beautiful. Your mom and your dad always tell her she looks just like you. And she's always quiet when they tell her stories about you. You can tell she really listens to them and plays them in her little head. She closes her eyes sometimes and it's like if she could see you, feel you...

I'm sitting next to the window. I see your face reflected on the glass. I feel your smell on me. Your lips kissing every inch of me and your hands intertwined with mine. I can hear your voice calling me, singing to me.

I need you, and I love you. Sometimes one more than the other, but they always end up mixing, to the point that they're so alike they might be the same.

Sofia says hi, in her language, and she sends you a drawing she made with her little hands.

Come back soon, please..."

My wife has always said that sometimes my songs go on way too long and have too many ideas in them; that got me to thinking: why don't I just cut up those 8 minute songs into 8 1-minute songs? So here is one of those experiments.

In one ear and out the other
the name of the game is blame another
it's easy when you've got days to waste away

and what will stop my brain
from rearranging the pain
into little towers
until they crumble around us

in one ear and out the other
a cautious rabbit makes his way over
hobbling with a broken heart

and what will stop my brain
from rearranging the pain
like years of undigested grain
into little towers
until they crumble around us...

K inspiration struck and I had to act! A little ditty for the lovely Lula and whoever needs a smile :)

Lyrics if you wanna join in are:

Painty hands I saw a minute
So I emptied what was in it
And wrote a little song for you
Tied a ribbon round the words
And put the words into a verse
I hope you like it, it’s the best that I can do

And if a minute was an hour
And a petal was a flower
Then I’d be all the people I know
To be my friends would be a pleasure
Every buddy is a treasure
And walking in their shoes will help me grow

So this song has just three pieces
No refrains and no releases
A trio of melodic rhymey chunks
It’s a simple little ditty
Let’s get to the nitty gritty
Painty Hands I hope this tune debunks your funks

Hello!
I'm looking for a big strong chorus to accompany this shy voice on a couple of songs. (percussion or more instruments would be cool too!)

Specs:
1. In the chorus I sing "Gravity has taken its toll on me" (this happens twice) and I would love to hear one thousand more voices singing/saying this.
2. In the third verse I sing "She begged all of the babies to scream" and I would love to hear screaming behind the word "scream."
3. At the end I sing "The universe echoed with a mighty wind, it said 'gravity has taken its toll, gravity has taken its toll on me, gravity has taken its toll on me" and, again, I would love to hear one thousand more voices singing/saying this along with my voice.
looking forward to it,
xo,

it's so illogical

I measured love by any success
it's harder now that you're gone, i must confess

but still, i can't wait for everything
to align itself with me
and give up the sanctity
of the ambience

i don't get it; why must we collect memories
as if we'll gain any sense from their complexities
every little sound i make is questioned and explored
as if there's something to gain from pretending you're bored

but still, i can't wait until today
to realize that it's okay
and give up the holiday
i made up in my brain
