Joe- I was in the middle of working on a logo design for a client when I needed to take a drastic break from the creative process for its design... and I began doodling around... and I designed your own personal logo with your initials in Golden Globe colors... nothing fancy, nothing shmancy... just to say congrats on your nomination.

Whatever the outcome, you will always be a Golden Globe nominee, and because of that... you still win!

Somebody redecorated the Stop sign at the end of my street quite brilliantly. Brightened my day every time I stopped there. Inspirational street signs...I like it.

Found this going through some of my old photos. Taken during the Summer of 2007.

Sun Studio, the original place to HitRECord. Founded in 1950 by Sam Phillips, for a small fee you could come in and RECord whatever you wanted on a record. Sun Studios was the beginning point for such musicians as Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johhny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Wanda Jackson.

I love this record, because even though this was just last year I'm so totally 11 years old in this picture. My heart leapt up when I saw that sign: Future Astronauts Enter Here! This is it this is it! Never mind that I'm so totally not going back to college and I'd never get into the program anyway for a variety of excellent reasons and all that - in this perfect moment anything is possible, and the future stands open and infinite, and I really do believe that dreams come true if you love long enough and with hard enough. And I got a RECord of it! Yay! Thank you total stranger who took this shot. It always cheers me up when I see it.

(Tori, do you still have that cool video with the many windows? I know it's on V2 somewhere, but can you repost it for me?)

Non-linear photography for a linear quote about being non-linear. Yep. :)

I spliced together some photos of a quote in the Modern Wing of the Chicago Institute of the Arts. The original design of the quote was just too linear to be placed so close to the works of Salvador Dali.

This sign was near one of the synagogues in Tzfat, Israel. Tzfat is a very holy city; most of the inhabitants are very orthodox Jews. Tourists come in shorts, tank tops, flip-flops. When you enter the synagogue, there are light cotton shawls to drape over shoulders and, if necessary, tie around waists. I wore a skirt and paid for it with a heat rash on my legs.

Man With Hat's photo isn't technically a resource, but it inspired me to upload mine and I wanted to link them somehow.

The sign was inside the place. I didn't really want to go in the place. But you could see the sign through the window. That "zoom" feature can be handy. Can't get around the mullions though.

Mercy, Truth, and Cash

Saw this while getting a ride home from a coworker today. I like that "ATM INSIDE" is larger than anything else on the sign.

It's an interesting image but it also raises questions: why have an ATM in a church? Convenience for their members? Then why advertise it on the sign? A source of revenue, or a way to get people in the door? If it's the latter, do they really expect people to come in for cash and find Jesus?

Curiouser and curiouser...

Near my house there's an old beauty salon that's been closed up for awhile. Letters on the roof once spelled out "BEAUTY SALON," but the T and N fell down, making it "BEAU Y SALO."

The first time I saw this, I hoped that "beau y salo" meant something in French. I hurried home and feverishly searched online, but alas, it means nothing.

It's very nearly "the beauty of salt," but not quite.

This guy has been standing on the corner of 5th & Pike in downtown Seattle for the last ten years. He is always seen screaming and yelling at the cars driving by, hitting the windows, holding and waving this sign, in which, for the life of me, I could never get close enough to read it, let alone understand what this man was saying.

So, one day, I walked up to him and asked to take a picture of him with his sign. He was actually the nicest man when he wasn't ranting raving mad. It also allowed me to view what his sign said. After reading it, it makes little sense and it's clear he has issues with the City of Seattle, King County, and its officials. But I'm not sure where the other content comes into play. Anyway... this one's for the photo-documentary series collab.

The day I got my camera I took this picture of my lamp, the lamp has a drawing of a sun with some of the lyrics to "You Are My Sunshine" around them taped to it, I thought the picture came out pretty cool.My cell phone, house phones, and stapler or also on the night stand around it, with two phones right there you'd think I was a pretty popular guy, but I'm not.

I was on the phone in a hurry on the way to work the other day, looked down and this was the exact sight I saw.

So, I stopped in my tracks & hitRECord.

No photoshopping, no arranging, just foreboding message and pigeon feathers.

Someone has been nailing shoes to the telephone poles in my neighborhood.

See "Shoefiti" for another one.

These public art installments have been showing up all around Ballard (a Northern neighborhood of Seattle). Various different kinds of shoes, always a pair, with poems or words written on them in paint, then stapled to telephone poles. Curious.

I found this in Georgia. Ironically, it was during the most UNpeaceful time of my life. It's amazing how something so small can give so much hope.

Let's give a round of applause to the students, faculty, and employees of UC campuses for standing in solidarity for the injustices being forced upon us and future generations. I was conversing with a fellow student and friend of mine and we've come to a realization that this, right now, is EDUCATION. What we are learning from each other and venting of our concerns and crying and dancing and creating dialogue with persons of authority has been the greatest most knowledgeable class I have ever attended in my entire life. A priceless education. Just the other day, as we were negotiating with the assistant vice chancellor of UC Davis, she used such obnoxious vocality: "consumers of an educational product." So, this is how administrators view students? it was a point of clarity that we as students are not taken seriously. THIS OUR CHANCE TO SHOW THEM WHAT DEMOCRACY TRULY IS!

I've set myself a new art project and I need YOUR help!

In July this year, my Granda passed away from Cancer only three weeks after finding out he had the disease. Other people in my family have also been affected by Cancer. My uncle's fiancee had Ovarian Cancer a few years back, my other Grandad also passed away from a form of the disease and when I was nine, we lost my Uncle to it also.

This got me thinking, most people I know have had a relative or a friend who has been affected by Cancer. I wanted to help in some way to raise awareness and funds to aid Cancer Research so I started to think about what I could do.

My Granda always loved my artwork so I've decided in memory of him, I want to put together a book of portraits, sell copies of it and donate a large percentage of the profits to Cancer Research.

Soooo that's where you guys come in!
I'd like the book to be a collection of my drawings of people who have either had the disease, know someone who's suffered from it or just basically anyone who'd like to be involved.
I'd like to get as many people involved as I can.

If you're reading this and you'd like to be a part of the book, it would be awesome if you could send me a photograph of yourself, along with your name, which country you're from and a short message to go alongside the drawing of you that I will do.

The message can be in memory of a loved one who you've lost to Cancer or how you feel about the disease. Something positive would be good, a short message to give hope to other people.

The photograph you send me must be a decent size image, close enough to see the details of your face so I can make my drawings accurate. Feel free to post your image and your message in the comments here although it may be better to send them to my email address as I think the pictures will come out bigger.

This is the second picture that I was talking about. The gray person on the left is my sports teacher. She's French, just like all the other teachers, and she's SUCH a tomboy. We students love her very much. Especially the boys, she's very pretty even if she acts like a boy :] And that's what most of us like about her! We were all supposed to wear RED, as you can see, but she's the type that doesn't care, haha.

As I said in my Roll Call video, I am a jeweler by day, so, I took a little time today to work in my studio on a couple RECord inspired pieces, and blow off my professional responsibilities since RECording is a lot more enjoyable :) Thanks to this kinetic and magical community I've experienced a huge creative rejuvenation and needed to pay homage I guess :) Just something simple I could whip up quick. A sterling silver REC button, slightly domed out to give it a little dimension.

One of the first images I shot in my '4 Years Later' series about New Orleans.

Whoa, I was just reading the March issue of Rolling Stone and randomly came across a familiar film title.

My amazing Grandpa Gene is 95 years old. He walks much slower than he did last year. He's been to the emergency room several times this year for a few miscellaneous things (shoveling too much snow, falling on stairs and hitting his head). He loves the cabin and the lake; He somehow manages to find so a billion things to putz with every single day and countless projects over the past 60 years at the lake.

This trash can has been at the base of the beach walkway for as long as I can remember (at least 26 years, probably longer, though). With all the miscellaneous health things lately, I get sad when I think that this beach trash can might not be there someday, along with my loving and adorable grandpa.

At least he is here now and I soak up as much time as I can with him.

I was thinking perhaps I should touch it up, brighten the color, etc. But, I want to remember beach trash just as it is.

So the poster we put up yesterday at Sundance got covered up or ripped down as is the way of these things... This failed to stop us though! Teafaerie and I hit the streets again this morning with stapler, camera, and a gleam in our eyes. We retaliated with Like a Gun repetition as is the hitrecord way~ *Photo by Teafaerie

I am feeling very much like I'm on the edge of something different, but the same. So to illustrate this, I took a picture of where Cherokee Road and Cherokee Pkwy meet. They converge in the only turn-about in the area; so you could be going in cirlcles on the two roads forever, never on one without also being on the other.

Working at the United Nations, you see a lot of protests done right across the street almost every day. This particular one drew the most crowd, and showed the most desperation I've seen in the two years I've been here. These people are crying (literally screaming their tears out) for their fellow Christians being slaughtered in Egypt. It's seeing the people at protests like this that makes me realize how much the number of people in dire need of help outweighs the number of caring hearts. The ratio is just overwhelmingly heartbreaking.
