another from Hildegard von Bingen, mystic 12th century abbess, herbalist, visionary and all-around polymath. this was considered by many to be her magnum opus; after her death, the nuns at the abby swore they saw her walking thru the halls, singing this song.

i haven't performed this live for 10+ years (it's a challenge! and this recording took forever!!); back then, we did it with violin, keyboard, and a world beat vibe....so it's sung with spaces for drumming, etc. be great to see it remixed, sampled, etc into something danceable! :-)

copyright lapsed circa 1200 AD....so thought maybe it could be used somewhere: sampled, looped, deconstructed, distorted, added to...

eek. (hiding out behind all that reverb.)

reverb-removed version for REmixing. i definitely can hear some ambient noise in one section (maybe the refrigerator came on, or a big truck going by?) but this is as clean as it gets from this end. have fun! and thanks again.

this is a song i wrote with an old and dear friend from high school (ronton, whose song "baby" is here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/85593 ) one day years ago i sent him the lyrics, deep in the throes of some infatuation gone awry, and he sat down and this came out. originally recorded on guitar, which is arguably the best version, but for this harpsichord version we dubbed in my harmony vocal one year when i was visiting him back home. it's always felt a bit magical to me the way it all came together......

this is an old celtic tune by the name of Bonnie George Campbell that was originally about a guy who goes out riding one day.....and his horse returns later, but he doesn't. Oh dear.

We were so tired of singing celtic songs about dead guys that i re-wrote the words, and we recorded it with some appropriately woodsy sound effects, overdubbing my harmony vocals later in the kitchen.

if you listen closely at the end, when the chimes sound - which was purely accidental, as the chimes hung outside and it was a windy night - you can actually hear me smile about it because the mic was still turned on!

O.M.G....this is the only song i ever bothered to copyright, back in the 90s when we were playing around with cassette tapes and recording things backwards. sound quality = NOT.

i will likely regret posting this....but what the hell. i'd love to see this reworked, and if it doesn't happen here, i don't reckon it ever will. viva la mort!

embarrassingly old, from when i used to call my home phone to preserve a melody that struck me while at work and i had no way to remember it (i don't read or write music). so this is an old snippet i found on a cassette tape, with some great noise from the phone, and maybe someone can use it as a sample somewhere.....

a bit of silliness, but since the song is copyright-free i thought i'd share it.

this is me (on the left) and 2 friends singing last night at our local variety show - we did 3 different songs and my sweetie's daughter filmed the one we ended with. the show is a fund-raiser for the world's first solar-powered grange, right here in california, and it's my favorite community event b/c everyone - loggers, hippies, old-timers, kids, yuppies, farm-workers and weirdos - gets involved and it's a real hoot. hope you can see the fun we had.

a song i put together for the 2nd version of the MetaForest, which i imagine as a video....but i am swamped with work right now and it looks like it will be ages before i get to it, so why not let you guys play with it? :-) it's basically a repeating theme with variations on each repeat, plus a small bridge. it could easily be edited down to less than its current 3 minutes, so if anyone wants that, let me know.

ok, kids, for your REmixing pleasure... i grabbed one of the segments of joe putting his signature on the checks, looped it, then asked my sound engineer sweetie-pie to try and remove some ambient computer noise. of course he couldn't resist playing! and this is the snazzed-up result. pretty fun! & hopefully useful to you music monsters out there. <3

the previous dove .wav slowed down quite a bit. maybe these would make a good loop in a song somewhere?

finally caught this guy outside my window, calling to his/her mate, who was sitting on the fence. this audio had a bunch of sheep sounds as well as wind noise, so i ran a filter on it, which took out the noise but made the surrounding birds sound like they're from outer space. (i like that!) the slowed-down version of this is cool too. hope they can be useful somewhere.

this is silly, but...i just went down to the end of our driveway, where a frog pond is created every year after the rains...and the sound of the frogs is UNBELIEVABLE. so i just turned on my camera and let it RECord, in the dark.
