Tick tock tick tock etc....a song I wrote pondering the shortness of our little lives Thought this might be useful for the Time collaboration thingy...until I realised I was ironically probably out of time - Still, let me know what you think please. Recording and harmonising is a little messy but I hope you will forgive that!
A love song by me - bass and elec guitar by my cyber-collaborator David Ding AKA noiseball
Over and over and over... Forgive the messiness - I did my best!
An old old song likening my mental state to that of melting ice caps. Of course!
Lyrics:
Oh Antarctica
You're melting just like me
If we don't cut this out we'll sink into the sea
Spy glass
Burning a tattoo into the bark
So I can't forget myself
Escaping in the park
My mind is metal
I can't find the breake pedal, brake pedal
No way to slow down or make it better
I'll just have to crash
The ice cracks reveals the tracks of my soft footed doubt
This soon to be aquarium won't let the fishes out
This life will end
I can depend on metal turned to rust
before my final curtain call
Will I know who to trust?
My mind is metal
I can't find the brake pedal, brake pedal
No way to slow down or make it better
I'll just have to crash
A song I wrote for Lawrie's film; Empire - apologies for the dodgy French and dodgier pronunciation - eek it was my first time writing in French see - forgive me? Anyway! I would be soooo happy if someone could put some music behind my vocals - pretty please!!
Je vois ton petit visage
Dans les nuages, dans le vent
Dans mes larmes
Quand ils tombent constamment
C’est dommage, petit fils
Que tu est mort dans la vie
Sans espoir et plein de maladie
Tu as vu petit soldat
Tante tristesse et douleur
La misère dans les yeux
Brises mon coeur
C’est ma faut t’es perdu
Dans un monde d’inconnu
Tu as crie mais personne n’intendu
Rétournez a moi
J t’attendrais toujour
Rétournez a moi
N’ayez pas jamais peur
The ever lovely Island Prophet suggested I write a melody for my poem. For some reason it rarely occurs to me to do that - but I gave it a go! Bit rough so sorry about that! <3
Had this tune in my head for ages and Joe's words fit perfectly. Et voila! Kept it simple so do add whistles and bells and voices as well!
And happy pre-birthday Joe! <3
Me at my poppiest. Do feel free to join me with singing or clapping or whatever pleases you!
You never show your black spots
You blind us with sunspots
You’re a glitter ball that keeps spinning
When you’re not winning
You wake up
In full stage make up
You’re a ticking bomb with a smile on
How’d you hold it so long?
Gotta let it all out someday, dear
And I’ll be waiting patiently right here
You’re making me feel nervous
With your perfect surface
Did you know that I’d still stick around
If your smile was upside down?
What’s the use of friends for just fair weather?
I’ll be here with ears to hear whatever
Gotta let it all out someday, dear
And I’ll be waiting patiently right here
So Cchellez challenged me to write a cheery song about a dreary subject - and, well, I cheated a bit and recorded a song that I've had floating about for a long while. Hope this still qualifies as a challenge met! :)
I'd love to hear this remixed so if anybody wants separate tracks lemme know!
Ps. The guitar is tuned to drop d and the chords are umm..D and A and some ones I made up that are like the top three strings on the 5th, 7th and 2nd fret :P
Exhumed a body from my bedroom yesterday
He shook the dust off then here’s what he had to say
Don’t waste a second - live loud everyday
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He's my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
He writes me haikus, telling me to go outside
Let go the recluse, even though I’d rather hide
Step out the front door, life’s on your side
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He’s my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
My friendly skeleton
He shows me how it’s done
I know one day I’ll be one
Til then I’m gonna have some fun
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He’s my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
I pack his bones up neatly in the old suitcase
I’ve gotten sick of his hollow judgmental face
I’m happy fleeting floating in space
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He’s my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
My friendly skeleton
He shows me how it’s done
I know one day I’ll be one
Til then I’m gonna have some fun
When I’m caught out in the rainstorm
When I’m weary and alone
Wrap me tightly, keep my bones warm
Give me shelter, take me home
When I’m drowning in the dark days
When I’m flooded with regret
And the sorrow sends me sideways
Give me shelter from the wet
When I’m sinking into puddles
Soaking nearly to the skin
Wallowing in all my muddles
Whisper to me, take me in
Neath the trees and under awnings
In the archways and the caves
Clouds reveal a new sun dawning
And a light that softly saves
Every puddle is a mirror
Every raindrop is a test
Each downpour can draw you nearer
Or still further from your best
When I’m caught out in a rainstorm
When I’m weary and alone
Wrap me tightly, keep my bones warm
Give me shelter, take me home
For the ever lovely Marke and Kim as an early new baby gift!
And for all this year's babymaking hitrecorders :)
So this is something Pasiv and I have been working on - I sent him a vocal track that needed some magic, he provided said magic times a million and here is the result!
(Will upload separate vocals too)
I've got a letter in my head for you I'm sick and tired of playing dead for you I've gotta come back, I've gotta come back to life Turn the clocks back, turn the clocks back, I'm alright My lips are frozen and my hands are numb The cracks are showing but I'm playing dumb I've got jump off, I've gotta let go this lie Let the truth out, let the truth out or let it die
Loved Robo_J's guitar track so wrote some lyrics and a melody for it. It's a song about the ol' standard hero's journey.
When evil forces unfurled
One man, at first was warned
And called out of his old world
A hero then was born
He battled through the thicket
And through the haunted wood
A lonely, only misfit
Stood on the side of good
He crossed the mighty river
Down in the fearsome fjord
Then found the token giver
Who kept the magic sword
He gathered friends and helpers
Along his hero’s path
Just as the fortune teller
Foretold would come to pass
He scaled the witch’s tower
He lanced the serpent’s head
And channelled all its power
To his own veins instead
The balance then was right again
He had achieved his goal
Forever changed the land of men
Forever changed his soul
I've long been a big admirer of jonthewallflower's music - had his July Lullaby on my itunes for months and always hummed this tune along to it - so finally recorded it. I strongly suggest you listen to his full track too though - it's an epic! (And all of his music for that matter).
Don't forget me
Don't forget me
I'll find a place to hide
Inside your memory
Don't misplace me
Don't mistake me
For paperwork to file away
And smile away without me
Don't undo me
Don't look through me
I'm not a pane of glass, you see
Though I can shatter easily
Don't forget me
Don't forget me
That I can hide
Inside your memory
Added words and singings to mikeregannoise's wonderful track - Telephone. Hope ya like, Mike! :)
Just me and my guitar again. It's quite bare so please do add music/singing if you're so inclined!!
In this world you’re creating
There’s no point in waiting
For a sign to come
Cos there isn’t one
Onward always we’re marching
There’s no overarching narrative
Just live
Then be done with it
And that vacuous feeling that
There’s no way of healing
Is a consequence
Of our discontent
Try to fill it with trinkets
Do you honestly think it’s gonna work
I doubt it
The plug is out
You’re an ant on a rock
That shouldn’t come as a shock
If your rational mind
Thinks it knows it all you’re blind
In this infinite something
There is plenty that’s comforting
To cling to if you desire to
We’ve all got our crutches
I know but as much as
I like drinking
Thinking is preferable
The peddlars will own you
the preachers will loan you their old lies
so you can avert your eyes
the certainty pushers
will act as your ushers
as you fill the pen
are you sheep or men?
A song about someone getting older and looking back.
Lyrics
Up in the attic is a faded photograph
of your wedding day
that's the way time goes these days
Out of your window is an unfamiliar scene
You remember when it was all empty and green
You remember when people said
exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade
You remember when the universe felt young
and so did you
You remember when your love was fresh and new
Down in the basement is a box of broken dreams
Promises pulled apart, torn at the seams
Phantoms and ransoms you picked up along the way
In a life lived right, that's the price you've got to pay
You remember when people said exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade
You remember when the universe felt young and so did you
You remember when your love was fresh and new
You remember when people said exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade
You remember when the things you held onto were owned, not lent
You remember when the people you loved stayed
This needs something or lots of things but I'm not sure what! Please go crazy! :) I'll upload stems presently!
I was sailing in the bathtub
I didn’t have an oar
I was shouting for the captain
But he was overboard
On the bathroom floor
I was flying in a bubble
Floating on the breeze
But I knew I was in trouble
When it drifted into the trees
To the taunts of the passing bees
Where have I come from?
Where am I going?
There's no way of knowing, no.
Should I shuffle this way?
Should I run that way?
Captain come and steer this boat
I was swimming in a soup bowl
'til I got out of my depth
Then I clung on to the bread roll
So I could catch my breath
But I haven't caught it yet
All the king's men couldn't fix me
I'm a faulty Rubik's cube
I'm a second-hand shop jigsaw
With a missing piece or two
Impossible to conclude
Where have I come from?
Where am i going?
There's no way of knowing, no.
Should I shuffle this way?
Should I run that way?
Captain come and steer this boat
Couldn't resist recording a couple of melodies for amferraro's collab. I even used a metronome! Hope they're useful :)
An apocalyptic love song. Rapture rock :)
And check out Megan's MegaMix here: http://www.hitrecord.org/records/397650
Ancient Rome and teen fiction combine to create this song - bah capitalism etc etc :)
Because dissent can be infectious
They will endeavour to protect us
From the power of the ranks united
From their battle cries
As long as we have dollars in our pockets
We dont see the boat so we dont rock it
Shock us, lock us in our bubble
Trouble us with lies
And the dilemma just below the surface is
That we're distracted by your bread and circuses
Oh their semantics can be so romantic
Noble causes with obsuring clauses
Of course its easy to accuse from
My cosy little life
In the middle of this pyramid scheme
We're not as comfortable as we at first seem
Cracks appearing, no one steering
Will we sink or swim?
And the dilemma just below the surface is
That we're distracted by your bread and circuses
Mind the gap, it's growing ever wider
Between the losers and the winning siders
The balance is forever broken
Outspoken voice hushed
And the dilemma just below the surface is
That we're distracted by your bread and circuses
Made this little ditty a while back - might be useful for soundtracking magical-y things. Can upload stems too if anyone fancies playing around with it! The lonely daughter hides her secret in the grass Locks the trapdoor throws the key into the past Imagined magic keeps her from the pain of truth The wooded fort that keeps the fairytale of youth
Inspired again by Via's video <3
The fireflies only come out night
They don’t like competing with daylight
On dark days your love too seems twice as bright
You’re my firefly love if that’s alright
When Winter splinters into sweetest Spring
I am season’s queen and you are its king
No matter what surprises seasons bring
Firefly love, your kiss is a sure thing
There’s fire in their bellies
There’s fire in our hearts
That banishes icicles from the cold parts
Firefly, you are a work of art to me
Take my hand, let’s dance into the dark
We will light the night up with our spark
Although we won’t have wandered very far
I’m up in the sky, firefly, you’re my shooting star
There’s fire in their bellies
There’s fire in our hearts
That banishes icicles from the cold parts
Firefly, you are a work of art to me
Have at it! :)
Lyrics
Shake off your old suit
It never suited you
And come to my room
I will fashion you a new one
Make me a skin dress
I wear you the best
No I don’t like the cold
So come on and hold me
You be the tailor
I’ll be the seamstress
Wont’ you let down my hem again?
Bake me a fine cake
And describe how it tastes
So soft in my ear
So that only I can hear
I will satisfy you
With my own special stew
And the tenderest meat
That you have ever eaten
You be the baker
I’ll be the chef now
Feed me your sweetest offerings
Forge me a strong bow
So that my arrows might flow
Neatly into the flesh
Of our old discretion
And I will cast you a spell
To keep your tough hands well
So they might hold their place
In the space I like them best
You be the blacksmith
I’ll be the white witch
Let the townspeople curse our dark dealings
A simple little song I made from fractaldust's lovely lyrics.
For Vickie's tiny song collab - here's my tiny musical interpretation of Attilee's 'Together'
Last song today ha! Bit of a change of tone for this one - I'm jumping on the hitRECord blues train with thanks to smweed's awesome lyrics. Additions/suggestions welcome!
I've been loving all the additions to this rhyme about mortali-tea (arf arf) and took a break from colouring in to write a melody for it :) Apologies that I had to cut down the verses - I'm not good at writing long songs. I can provide stems/chords if anyone wants to add more or extend or add whatever!
Oh and let me know if I forgot any resources!
For the day that's in it.
Thought this would fit the body image collab. Some of you might have heard this one already but I'd love to get your comments on this and remixes of course!!
Stereo lies hit you from both sides
Til you start to believe in the taunts of thieves
Celluloid spies can control your eyes
Take a confident glance and kill it with romance
Overthrow your power, turn it sour
And bitter bake you in your skin
To turn your beauty and your truth
Into a parody of youth
You are not a commodity,
you’re a beautiful oddity
Skeletons smile out from the pages
While you make yourself sick to join the jailbait clique
And while you turn grey they never age a day
We’ve got it all wrong, we’ve got it all wrong
Overthrow your power, turn it sour
And bitter bake you in your skin
To turn your beauty and your truth
Into a parody of youth
You are not a commodity, you’re a beautiful oddity
A repetitive harmony-y song I made today. Might be useful for soundtracking - or it would be awesome if someone could add/lengthen/chopup/generally remix too! Suggestions for a better title also welcome!
Lyrics
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh aaah oooh ooh ooooooh :)
I found an old beat by BenWiley4000 and sang over it. I'd love if someone/several folk took this very bare track and made it fuller/cooler/everything-er!
My weapon is hidden on me
My bullets will pierce your blackened words
You’ll be sorry you spoke, sir
Revenge is not what I’m after
I want to illuminate is all
I am happy to let you fall
Don’t mistake me
For another fool
You can’t make me
Believe you
My melodies sing your sorrows
Just wait till tomorrow finds you limp
Oh your chances are slim, slim
And on your death bed, will you wonder?
Which of your offences stings the most
Are you scared of your own ghost?
Don’t mistake me
For another fool
You can’t make me
Believe you
A song about a one-sided chipmunk relationship. Trying something...err...different!
(Ps. I can upload the non-chipmunk version too if anyone wants!)
Today he wore purple, my favourite shade
And that was my favourite song that he played
I know that he winked at me when he walked by
Although you say it was just dirt in his eye
His friend's sister's boyfriend said my hair was lovely
And that's how I know that he loves me
We're like Romeo and Juliet
And just cos he doesn't know my name yet
Doesn't mean that we're not meant to be
It's so easy to see that he loves me
He wrote me a letter, anonymously
Put it on the internet for all to see
He's so understanding, he knows that I'm shy
You ask why he left out my name – well that's why
He likes to be cryptic, so he writes me stories
And that's how I know he adores me
You gotta look between the lines
He'ssending me love letters all of the time
If you just read the seventh word in every tweet
You'll see that he's swept off his feet
He could call if he wanted, but phones are passe
And, anyway, he talks to me every day
In our own secret code only we understand
Us modern day lovers don't need to hold hands
See he threw a big party and I was invited
So I know that my love's requited
Wrote this one a little while back. Have at it! (Ps. Lawrie's making a video for it too but it might be a bit ropey public domain wise - so I'll upload it to my Facebook tomorrow. Yes, that's right I'm on Facebook :P)
Epicness by Pasiv, singing/wording by me <3
Sorta Halloween-y?
Well this isn't what I intended to make at all! Set out to write some story ideas for Channing's 'Half a Clown' and accidentally wrote this odd song. Not sure about it or the wind ha but hey - have at it! Could do with instruments for sure.
Maybe it could work with some of the footage? Again - not sure! Ha.
Lyrics
I’m just clowning around
Lost in the sound
Of yesterday’s echoes
Echoes abound
With a smile on my face
Emblazoned with paint
I investigate the old place
Where I grew up oh
Such a long time ago
I don’t know if I can bear it
My painted smile cant wear it
Remembering details
That memory failed to
Collate in my brain
And this pain, this pain is strange
I’m a ghost of myself
The world is a well
I’m trapped at the bottom
Don’t know how I fell
The invisible tears
Of a clowns worst fears
Are suddenly surfacing here
Just a little ditty inspired by mirtle's drawing! It's just voice and it should actually be in time - so have at it! (Maybe 52bpm I think?)
This winter I want to go live in a tree
I'll be in its belly til January
I hope that you will remember me
And visit me in my November tree
A dreamy lil story song
Lyrics
Down by the river
I slept like a fisherman’s son
On a slow day for salmon
Down by the river
I dreamed I was swimming
Along with the fishes
Downstream to the shimmering ocean
The water turned salty
My gills had come faulty
I swam to the surface and spluttered
Down by the river
Then saw of all things
That I had grown wings
Upwards, then, I fluttered
Soaring above it all
I heard the seagulls call
“Look, there, she’s an imposter”
Down by the river
I tumbled to the ground
They put the message out
“Oh no, we have lost her”
And when I came to
My clothes were wet through
Was it a dream after all?
Down by the river
A vocals-only Christmas song that needs some help! It's 72bpm. Music it up? Pleeease? (Ps. Not sure bout this one)
Well it’s frightful outside
In the snow so we’ll hide
In our little lovenest by the fire
In a blanket for two
Nothing I’d rather do
Than cosy up for christmas with you
Bells are ringing and they’re singing
Let them carol away in the cold
For the whole winter through
Sleigh ridin snow sliding
That’s not for me
I’ll sit by the fire with a warm cup of tea
Well the winter winds wail
Round the treetops turned pale
From the icy cold breath of the moon
Snuggled up safe and warm
I could want nothing more cos I’m
Cosied up for Christmas with you
Wirrow's foxy illustration reminded me of a song I wrote so I thought I'd share. xx
Little foxes lead the way
Trust their instincts
They know the way the land lays
Little insects, underfoot, are maimed
That’s the law of all things
Things change
There’s a code that we don’t know at play
In the spaces between things and in things
In every night every day
Do you feel it, hear it ring?
Little foxes know everything
Do you believe it? Breathe it in
Little foxes know everything
Do you believe it
Even in your skin
You’re a part of it all
A part of it all
Thought this could be quite remixable. 66 BPM.
My sceptre is a sharpened tongue
My battle plan is 'play dumb'
My allegiance is to the god of one
No nation claims me
no flag or gun
In the trenches defenseless you’re grasping at mud
Shake it off
Take it off
Clawing down castles of sand, you’re no good
Shake it off
Take it off
My human kindness is a serpent’s kiss
My lesson is this
No man is a monster, no man a god
Smile and nod
Smile and nod

Glockenspiel and harmonies. Always thought this could do with building on - synthy sounds and drums and such. Please go crazy with it - that would make me very happy :)
Run little animals
From these woods
Although you never thought you could you could
Fly little insect
Out of harm’s way
Keep safe you only live a day a day
Swim little fishes
To the sea
Instinctively you move downstream downstream
Live little human
Don’t sleep yet
There’ll be time to sleep when you’re dead you’re dead
The tragic tale of the boy who cried wolf and the cynics who doubted him. For mirtle's Same Story Different Ending collab
Once upon a time there lived a shepherd boy
Who sat upon a hill and watched his flock
And one December eve the locals heard him cry
‘Oh no, here comes a wolf’ he cried in shock
But when they came to check, the wolf had hidden
They thought the shepherd boy was telling lies
So later when the little boy cried wolf again
The skeptical townsfolk ignored his cries
But horrified were they when they discovered
That everything the boy had claimed was true
They learned that their distrust of one another
Had cost the boy his flock and his life too
A traditional song in the public domain. Sing along! Clap! Play harmonica/fiddle/washboard/spoons! Please :)
I'll upload vox and guitar separately so one of the verses can be taken out for an instrumental section if needs be!
Lyrics
I'm going down this road feeling bad I'm going down this road feeling bad I'm going down this road feeling bad, lord, lord And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
I'm down in the jailhouse on my knees Down in the jailhouse on my knees Down in the jailhouse on my knees, lord, lord And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
They feed me on corn bread and beans They feed me on corn bread and beans They feed me on corn bread and beans, lord, lord And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
Got two dollar shoes on my feet Got two dollar shoes on my feet Two dollar shoes they hurt my feet, lord, lord And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
It takes a ten dollar shoe to fit my foot It takes a ten dollar shoe to fit my foot It takes a ten dollar shoe to fit my foot, Great God And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
I'm going where the weather fits my clothes I'm going where the weather fits my clothes I'm going where the weather fits my clothes, lord lord And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
