This is a ... you've guessed it ... Forest Shield Beetle. For those of you who have seen "Respect the Beast" (http://www.hitrecord.org/records/232605/forum) , this was recorded at the same location in the space time continuum. I may also have scared the crap out of this little fella too. Totally coincidental I swear.
To mix with anything :)
A shoot I did after seeing a collection entitled Flughumor by Magnus Muhr. Loved the concept, wanted to give it a go myself. Was a load of fun to do :D
Unfortunately I am not yet trainned in the art of fly hypnosis so as you may have already guessed, these flies are infact dead...but I assure you no flies were deliberately harmed for the making of these photos (all died of natural causes).

I'm planning on writing a 'not' tiny story called mantis sermon... there's a reason why priests in this community are not married...
I apologize for the lack of records lately; I went to a casting call to be an extra in a huge film (I can't say it's real name, but it's called Magnus Rex ;D) and have been distracted by the prep for that as of late.
*insert witty comment here*
Synopsis
In the city called FILTH things are bound to get messy!
My idea is they live in the city of FILTH, thinking all their problems are really big but they're all just flies and occasionally get swat but full size people or cars or whatever.
Two of them are buddies, one is the secretary, our main hero is trying to impress her alot, and their boss just smokes all the time and can't believe how stupid they are.
The head DA/boss is infact a spider, I really want Robert Vaughn to voice it, but doesn't everyone, and he kinda wants them to fail, as he runs a GRIME sydicate. He sort of works out and recieves phone calls, doesn't really get directly involved.
Characters
FITZ - Bumbling ugly idiot, but partner and friend to Bug, eats a lot.
BUG - A charming kind, thinks he's smarter than he is, but not very brave, and clumsy.
Insectretary - Wants BUG to realise he doesn't need to prove himself and all the energy he puts into trying to show how cool and brave he is, could be better spent just asking her out.
CHIEF COOTY - Their BOSS always putting them on assignments that could go wrong and they invariably do.
DON ARACNID (DA) - Runs FILTH CITY'S "GRIME SYNDICATE" and all that that entails

I did a theme song too
Messing around with animating the character designed by AliPow3rs. Not the best animation skills seeings how this is my first real attempt at making an animation but I have some ideas for short clips to start off with. I'll record these later so others can have a whack at it!
This is what I saw when I read Mushr's tiny story. A silhouette of a praying mantis inside of a heart shaped venus fly trap. I'm a really shitty illustrator but I mocked up a quick illustration of my idea for the picture. I hope this helps spark some ideas in some legit drawers and illustrators. Remix!!!
i took the sound out due to ambient (me) noise, but here's our resident insectoid alien in motion. i like the way he decides to nonchalantly groom himself after sizing me up. think how weird i am from his perspective!
Horrorscopes for today:
The Stinkbug (March 9 - April 15)
You bugs really love to travel, so if the opportunity presents itself to fly away to warmer climes, go for it! Your pioneering spirit will see you through. And while others may call you "invasive" or a "pest species," stand tall. You know when the shoe comes down, you will have the last laugh. Today's lucky numbers are 7, 16, 75 and 92.
Dongmeng L.
This is a part of the Challenge Collab. Check out Schnauzie's Horrorscopes, btw! Oh, and the actual challenge result will be up in a few seconds. :D
Hey, Schnauz! I don't know if you'd see it, so I turned the moth around. I used the dog in your portrait photo as part of the moth's body (since I suck at drawing bugs and the details of bugs are lost on me ,and there it was, your portrait shot as inspiration!). :D
Oh and I used via's red moth icon as basis for the actual moth (not its markings, though. The markings were fairly random.)
There have been a lot of tiny stories being written recently about fireflies that I have noticed, so I decided to RECord one. Maybe someone can write something based on this? and then RECord a voiceover? or even add effects to make it look like the light bulb is flickering? (except that wouldn't really make sense since its not in a fixture) Just some suggestions.
*NO fireflies were injured or harmed*
I.
A handsome bee.
A glance,
a bee that sits, looks around and leaves
to sex a different flower.
The flower cannot
leave.
II.
The fly is not
a bee. Not rich
with pollen like the bee.
Not handsome.
Ugly eyes and thick
rimmed glasses.
The fly has nothing
to offer, and yet
he lands on the petal.
(A new thought.)
III.
A glance
a fly that sits
on an abandoned flower
looks around and leaves
a mark.
his vomit on a petal.
Embarrassed, a fly leaves
to fly
far from flowers and bees,
to retch on less beautiful things.
It is nobody’s fault! said the man
whose fault it was at dinner.
** I feel the characters of this piece are strong. If anybody wants to take them further, either in the character collab or as an individual record that would be really fun for me.
Still a better love story than Twilight: two weeks ago I found a dead cockroach in my sister’s backyard. After a few minutes I found another dead cockroach. Both in the same place. I asked my sister if she had killed those cockroaches and she was surprised; said that had just killed one. Now, ladies and gentlemen, you can imagine what I thought when I saw those cockroaches. The only explanation, to me, is that the second one, kindly named Mary, died after seeing the love of her life, George, poisoned, dying slowly. They were a couple and that’s sad. Yea, I ship everything. Even two insects. A love story. (ps.: forgive me if I wrote something wrong. I'm still learning to speak english)
hope someone finds this shit useful...
Aww, look at him nom.
Very rough bit of stock dragonfly footage as it takes off.
Ants cleaning up after a spider feast - not the best footage, but I thought, what if someone somewhere could use this, so here it is.
Shot with my Canon 60D with a basic wide lens AND a set of tube extensions to get really close up to the little fellas.
Have fun.
