i love the idea of this.. and the song gave me the perfect oppertunity so i got out my trademark mini whitboard and got RECording!!.. XD

I really like the public footage in the SITC trailers, so I wanted to see more. Found some cool stuff and played around with it. I liked what I ended up with, but I didn't know what music to add. Then I found monkeychow's Medication Dream and I loved the combo - the music, I think, gives it a cool old-school 50's dreamy sci-fi feel.

felt it rather faster than slower.
anyone feel like contributing parts, instruments, vocals, sound fx?

this could very well turn into a nice soundtrack piece of the guy ritchie variety or should i say david holmes?

tempo: 130bpm

oh yeah - no pipa in this. just didnt sound as i wanted it to so i removed it completely. guitar, clavinet and rhodes work wonderfully though - yet i do not have free samples to use.

version 1.1 change history:

changed it up a bit with chow's help - thanks for the bassline. the new parts are based on yours.

added clarinet layer

added subbass to kick

tinkered with main and secondary bassline's frequencies to lower subbass.

tweaked the snare sound just a bit to be more comforting and less harsh

added a break to the drumbeat. more breaks to come.

softened limiter's grasp on the whole mix. does not clip as quick now.

this is just the first draft. anyone playing rhodes?

Well, at least I can say I tried. Not sure how this will look on here but I'm going to post it anyway. It's pretty big for a .gif file but I was trying to put in as many versions of the emblem as possible. What I really wanted to do was use a 'page turning' animation, but that made the file so large the program froze and I didn't know how to make it into a video file... LOL

I *really* liked ashlaaa's version of Half of Me and decided to RECord some solos for it. monkeychow gets the first break, and I took a solo both in the middle and the end while adding in a few accoutrements along the way. Hopefully nothing that I've added detracts from the really neat, laid-back vibe that ashlaaa and monkeychow set up.

I admittedly was a little greedy and had a lot to say, so I took a couple of solos. Nonetheless, I think the more people we can have solo on this the better, but I can't decide which solo of mine to strip out :), so If anyone else wants some space, I've also uploaded just the solos track to be clipped at whomever's leisure and re-integrated into the awesome original.

(If anyone is interested: solos RECorded using an Akai EWI running a soprano sax patch with a guitar filter.)

As mentioned in the description of that RECord, feel free to remove any (or all) of my solos to make room for any you'd like to take. If you are not part of the choir, it means you either did not sing at Joe's direction, or you didnt sing in key with Chigwinkle's RECord (or both), or you had excessive noise in your RECording.  You may also have spoken the words or played an instrument - I wanted this one to be strictly acapela. 


I tried to retune as many RECords as possible, but some wouldn't re-tune sensibly.  If you still want to be part of the choir it is not too late!  Simply follow Joe's lead, and sing in the same key as Chigwinkle.  BE SURE TO LISTEN TO THE AUDIO BY HEADSET while you are RECording - we don't want the sound of Joe or Chigwinkle bleeding over to YOUR RECording.


I'll re-do this next week sometime, which should give those still wishing to contribute time to do so.
