A brainy record.
All up this took 11 hours to create, storyboard, shoot and edit.
There are 421 photos and all were used. Hope you enjoy!

Prepping images on sheets of plastic took up the majority of the time taking up just over 5 hours. I used a whiteboard for the back drop.
All editing was done by hand each image averaging 0.04 seconds view time.

It does take a long time but I encourage everyone to give it a try. If you have the patients and the imagination, give it a go even if you produce something just a few seconds long. You will be amazed at what you can do.

If I had to explain hitRECord to someone I would play that RECord. Of course, this is my interpretation so feel free to add or cut things out.

I have to say Matt Conley's "New RECorders" has been a great source of inspiration so a big warm merci to you Matt. You're a muse to me ;-)

Regular Joe here. The old media tends to call me Joseph Gordon-Levitt, that being my name and all. Here in the new media, I hit that round red REC button on a regular basis.

HITRECORD.ORG is a project I started almost five years ago now. It began as a single page website just to host a few videos I'd made. It evolved into a small but vibrant community of art-sharing. And in 2010, we've become a full-fledged professional collaborative production company.

Later this month, we're sort of unveiling this new production model in the New Frontier section of the Sundance Film Festival. We'll be setting up a fully functional REC Room, with computers, cameras, mics, everything we need. We'll be collaborating both with Sundance attendees, as well as our global online community to create a variety of short-form media projects, and towards the end of the ten day festival, I'll be curating a screening of our results.

Want to work with us? I want to work with you.
Are you RECording?

i know this is not very 'instructiony' as a piece but i was suddenly inspired by joe's idea of making an abstract record about the collaborative process of hitrecord.
let me know if i've left out any resources

Personettes and Peoplethings – I present to you the SXSW 2010 version of ‘Morgan and Destiny’s Eleventeeth Date – The Zeppelin Zoo’.

Our man Morgan and his lovebuddy Destiny, along with Mssr. Foodpenguin and that dastardly dip-stick Lionel premiered to two jam-packed houses in Austin. The screenings were met with the lovely love of excited SXSW humanians.

Thanks to everyone who collaborated on Morgan and all of our other RECords in Austin. Its a time I won’t soon forget! :o)

Right then, here 'tis! Lexy, Chan and I had a ball doing this the other night. I just finished the cut last night. Hope it does justice to Metaphorest's fantastic tale!

It's certainly a much more ambitious story to tell than the first installment of Morgan M. Morgansen. So this version is less complete than the "white walls" version of that last episode. We got a lot of work ahead of us with this one!

Time to get to work on the visuals. Lawrie Brewster, this one has a hell of a lot more settings than the last one. I'm hoping the hitRECord contingent of graphic artists can rally round and pull together on this one.

I want to do another pass on the voice over. There's the characters' gibberish to add, sound effects. And of course, music!

This is the closest I could come to a file that would fit within our video player's 500MB limit. But I'm gonna upload another higher-res file as well for those of you (and there better be a lot!) who want to download it and start adding to it.

"Baghidden in Destiny’s pawpouch, Madame Ballofur, Destiny’s pamperfied purrpet, see-peeped overbag, then re-snuggled bagwards, disimpressed."

Sarah thank you for allowing Destiny to bring along Madame Ballofur. :''')

RegularJOE here. The old media tends to call me Joseph Gordon-Levitt, that being my name and all. Here in the new media, I hit that round red REC button on a regular basis.

HITRECORD.ORG is a project I started almost five years ago now, and in 2010, we've evolved into a full-fledged professional collaborative production company.

On new year's day, I released this video called THE NEW DEAL in which I've layed out what I want to do with hitRECord, how we're going to do it, and why.

In a nutshell: we create and develop art and media collaboratively here on our site; we use my position in the traditional entertainment industry to turn that creativity into money-making productions; and then we share any profits with the contributing artists.

In a nutter shell, we just have fun making things together. Videos, writing, photography, music, anything -- we call them all RECords. Are you RECording?

again by heart...

since it is taking soo long for the full res video to encode i thought i would throw up a smaller H.264 version for your viewing pleasure

During Sundance AvaLeFou had a really great analogy of hitRECord. He compared it to a growing tree.

I REmixed his thoughts a bit and added some visuals from the site to accompany his words and profound ideas.

This is my hearing impaired mom signing "Hit RECord," then she says "Stop" and puts her hands up :)

She got all excited to have her hands used for something.

Those hands have been her primary form of communication. They've said a lot in her 46 years.

Hey guys, here's my INCOMPLETE version of the Intro REmix. I don't normally like to put up anything not finished, but this is an exception.

I've REmixed about halfway through (to around the 1:30 mark.) And some of the edits still need sounds, music, effects, etc. Also some of the visuals need to have zoom-ins added and other quirky touches.

Just wanted to put this version out there.

I've REsourced all the others who have worked on this so we can pool ideas together and continue mastering this! :)

***NOTE*** One thing I feel super strongly about though is the way I cut the transition from HarperHippie's hand-into-the-camera shot to Joe's face. I took out the frames of black because I think it works best to go from the hand to Joe. The other way just doesn't feel right to me so I just wanted to mention that in here. :)

This is the first time i contribute in a collaboration,,, Instead of going out i stayed home and work on it and it feels good to be editing again... I liked what Matt Conley and msmeganonymous did for this collab so i started from there... I mixed what i liked the best from both and added my own touches here and there... I don't think is finished there's always room for improvement and change.
i'm just glad i finally had the time to help with something...

I didn't know what else to call this RECord, so I simply named it "SXSW / twenty ten." This is essentially my take on a recap video of the live shows hitRECord put on in Austin, Texas. I tried to encompass as much of how I felt about SXSW into this one.

This begins as a REmix of my first Interstitial Video, but then it goes into some of the moments I found most memorable and special out of the shows, as well as stuff that just so happened to cut well to the music I selected.

If I had to pick out a moment of this that I would want people to remember, I'd have to say it's the final moment of this video when Joe is watching RECords up on the big screen. The light happened to turn red and it was a great moment to have been captured of this site's creator enjoying the work he has helped us all create.

As an editor of other people's footage, I am always in debt to those that RECorded anything I've used. And in this particular case I really just want to highlight the work of milkriverfilm. His 18 minute "HitRECord @ South by Southwest" is something a lot of people seem to have missed. With only 166 views and 5 hearts as of now I feel it's something that got slept on and I encourage all of you to go check it out! It's marvelous!

This is a REmix of a REmix I did of Joe freestyling some T.S. Eliot.

I wanted the reading to be the focus of this video, but I wanted to open and close it with some kind of retro context. And with the aid of some public domain footage I was able to make the storyline involve some kind of timeless airwaves broadcast theme.

In addition to the "Television Tomorrow" public domain footage I also used snippets of "The Story of Television" located here: http://www.archive.org/details/StoryofT1956.
