This is the version of Morgan M. Morganson's Date with Destiny that screened at Sundance 2010. Throughout the festival, this is the one we'd show as our example. Whenever anybody asked, "what is hitRECord?" this was my answer: "Here, watch this short film we're making; you'll never believe who did it and how!"

Albert proposed an off-kilter writing exercise, and then Metaphorest's beautifully strange short story inspired it all. I read the story aloud, Jenyffer.Maria started drawing the characters, Tori animated Jen's drawings, Lula and I did a live-action rendition, Lawrie Brewster took the project to soaring heights with his gorgeous visuals, and along the way there was the help, encouragement and roughly 180 contributions from throughout our community. We brought it to Sundance, and Nathan coaxed the lush and vast music out of the newly coined hitRECorchestra. (Good_Girl_Indie has written out a fabulously detailed timeline documenting what happened and when along this RECord's progression.)

Not only did we close our (two) official hitRECord screening(s) in the New Frontier Microcinema with this piece, but the next day, Sundance added it as a short film to play before the award-winning feature HOMEWRECKER on a much bigger screen.

I actually watched the thing again just now. And I can whole-heartedly say that, besides the progressive methodology with which it was made, and besides the warm reception it received at Sundance, just purely as a little piece of art, as a short film, as a RECord -- I'm as proud of Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny as I am of any work I've ever done.

Thank you, everyone, for making it all happen!
and thanks again...

It started as a couple conversations with the inimitable Sean Lennon, and look how far it's come! This is the version of Nebulullaby that screened at Sundance 2010. (Leaving UT today, we'll be updating with cited Resources and a new higher quality file with the proper aspect ratio soon )

Hey guys! Thanks for everyone posting in the other thread where I've hosted version 1! However I felt it was appropriate that people should be able to download the film uploaded here on hit record so its more easily downloadable as a resource, and is searchable in the database!

I am currently writing an epic essay about the work flow, which ill be adding to this thread once the films uploaded! Im posting parts of it on the old thread for the film, but i'll be shifting them over here!

Im so grateful to the artists whose work i was able to use, and to whom I could contribute! Metaphorest, Jenyffer, Lula and Joe and everyone just blew me away.

When I see what people are making here, and are aspiring too (me too!) I think wow, this is the kind of work i enjoy - to me this art, is what entertains me. To see us work together and develop ever more ambitious projects that Hit Record can eventually share with the world, to eventually become self sustaining - is one of the most exciting things ive seen occur in the creative industries.

So im waffling there - but exciting times!

Version 2 - will be including a number of graphic improvements, extra shots here and there, particularly to credits! Ive asked for ideas and suggestions in the last thread but deffo port them over here and ill give them a good consider!

Right then, here 'tis! Lexy, Chan and I had a ball doing this the other night. I just finished the cut last night. Hope it does justice to Metaphorest's fantastic tale!

It's certainly a much more ambitious story to tell than the first installment of Morgan M. Morgansen. So this version is less complete than the "white walls" version of that last episode. We got a lot of work ahead of us with this one!

Time to get to work on the visuals. Lawrie Brewster, this one has a hell of a lot more settings than the last one. I'm hoping the hitRECord contingent of graphic artists can rally round and pull together on this one.

I want to do another pass on the voice over. There's the characters' gibberish to add, sound effects. And of course, music!

This is the closest I could come to a file that would fit within our video player's 500MB limit. But I'm gonna upload another higher-res file as well for those of you (and there better be a lot!) who want to download it and start adding to it.

Righto! Here we have Version 1 of my visual cut, Nathan's doing some awesome music and I will be keeping further improvements to the visuals in this edit (in perfect time) for the new soundtrack being produced.

Note - Please note this is not my complete visual cut, there are embellishments to be added, extra footage from contributors, example Sirius Dan, Jolynne, and others etc.

So while I can't guarantee to include everything in my edit, there is still more to be added. Particularly i want to add more improvement to creature animations, add more extra,s to fancier visual titles for the opening credits and so on!

Note - there are no sound fx etc yet in this version :)

As an example of the difference between my prior versions with Morgan 1 check out these,

Deeasherself wrote this beautiful piece a while back & it's been an honour to make a visual accompaniment to such a moving story. This is the most recent edit of the movie, with refined audio from JeffPeff.

RegularJOE here. The old media tends to call me Joseph Gordon-Levitt, that being my name and all. Here in the new media, I hit that round red REC button on a regular basis.

HITRECORD.ORG is a project I started almost five years ago now, and in 2010, we've evolved into a full-fledged professional collaborative production company.

On new year's day, I released this video called THE NEW DEAL in which I've layed out what I want to do with hitRECord, how we're going to do it, and why.

In a nutshell: we create and develop art and media collaboratively here on our site; we use my position in the traditional entertainment industry to turn that creativity into money-making productions; and then we share any profits with the contributing artists.

In a nutter shell, we just have fun making things together. Videos, writing, photography, music, anything -- we call them all RECords. Are you RECording?

again by heart...

Amanda wrote this on the plane while we were traveling and I shot it when we were hanging out at lunch.

This is a beautiful and moving moment to me because she is so reluctant to grace the world with her voice and talent. It is Heavenly.

Nels Cline -- I mostly know him as Wilco's guitarist, although he's made all kinds of music in all kinds of contexts. Let's start layering visuals -- http://www.hitrecord.org/records/81888

Here's some (lo-fi) video of the occasion.

I think it makes a decent jumping off point for what we can begin to do visually. Plus Ryan Patrick's excellent video from yesterday where he set the song to public domain footage involving fire and smoke.

UPDATE: I added this to the SXSW Bumper Collab.. so if the powers that be decide to use this, i would suggest using the Full Res version resourced on this one.. Thank you..

since it is taking soo long for the full res video to encode i thought i would throw up a smaller H.264 version for your viewing pleasure

This is my biggest most important remix. I took clips from around 90 of Joe's videos hes uploaded Since the release of V4 and maybe a little before that too. It took me about 4 1/2 hours to cut and arrange this, I used the three special phrases Joe ses in all his videos into a collage of quotes. "Are we recording" Regular Joe here" and "Thanks again" Hope you guys like it, I will be resourcing for a long time.. But ill do my best to get every resource. -Dan

Here is a compilation I cut together of the footage from the first panel discussion between Sean, Charlotte, and Jared on March 16th.

I tried to integrate in as much B-Roll as possible rather than edit together the establishing shot footage, so hopefully this has enough movement to bring the proper visual pacing for everyone.

Instead of just showcasing the live rendition of "Nebulullaby" I really wanted to focus on the actual conversation because it was very engaging, humorous, and offered an interesting perspective on the RECording process for one of the site's biggest collaborative projects to date.

here is an idea ive been playing around with. Anatomy of a RECord, like a behind the scene on how we make some of our best records.

anyways here is my first pass at it for MMM.. i still want to add some more titles and i need to figure out some why to convey how the score came together visually.
feel free to add/ remix/ you know do what we do here to this.

oh and cause of its size... you most likely will need to download it to view it

as always i hope you guys enjoy
