A cheesy but hearfelt little tune about this magical place and why it is I stick around...

Oh and please add bits/yourself to it! Clap your hands, shake your keys, sing along - whatever you feel like!

Lyrics!

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record

Again by heart
from the start
I could see
that you were all like me
And you wanted to be free
to share the things that made you happy

There's a kind of synergy
when a brain
and another brain collide
I'm not just me
I'm a cog in the wheel
of a giant family

I wanna make my mark
make a spark
that makes you wanna
make magic, make art
I wanna hit your heart
like cupid with a dart

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record (x3)

A brainy record.
All up this took 11 hours to create, storyboard, shoot and edit.
There are 421 photos and all were used. Hope you enjoy!

Prepping images on sheets of plastic took up the majority of the time taking up just over 5 hours. I used a whiteboard for the back drop.
All editing was done by hand each image averaging 0.04 seconds view time.

It does take a long time but I encourage everyone to give it a try. If you have the patients and the imagination, give it a go even if you produce something just a few seconds long. You will be amazed at what you can do.

It started as a couple conversations with the inimitable Sean Lennon, and look how far it's come! This is the version of Nebulullaby that screened at Sundance 2010. (Leaving UT today, we'll be updating with cited Resources and a new higher quality file with the proper aspect ratio soon )

This is the version of Morgan M. Morganson's Date with Destiny that screened at Sundance 2010. Throughout the festival, this is the one we'd show as our example. Whenever anybody asked, "what is hitRECord?" this was my answer: "Here, watch this short film we're making; you'll never believe who did it and how!"

Albert proposed an off-kilter writing exercise, and then Metaphorest's beautifully strange short story inspired it all. I read the story aloud, Jenyffer.Maria started drawing the characters, Tori animated Jen's drawings, Lula and I did a live-action rendition, Lawrie Brewster took the project to soaring heights with his gorgeous visuals, and along the way there was the help, encouragement and roughly 180 contributions from throughout our community. We brought it to Sundance, and Nathan coaxed the lush and vast music out of the newly coined hitRECorchestra. (Good_Girl_Indie has written out a fabulously detailed timeline documenting what happened and when along this RECord's progression.)

Not only did we close our (two) official hitRECord screening(s) in the New Frontier Microcinema with this piece, but the next day, Sundance added it as a short film to play before the award-winning feature HOMEWRECKER on a much bigger screen.

I actually watched the thing again just now. And I can whole-heartedly say that, besides the progressive methodology with which it was made, and besides the warm reception it received at Sundance, just purely as a little piece of art, as a short film, as a RECord -- I'm as proud of Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny as I am of any work I've ever done.

Thank you, everyone, for making it all happen!
and thanks again...

[PS] [updating soon with higher-res file, proper aspect ratio (!) and there's still more resources left to cite, etc, etc, etc...]

Inspired by allegraoxborough's little voice on "Walls" and her "Run, bride!" video. Also by Major Thom as Pluto "ascending the snow hill".

anyways here is my first pass at it for MMM.. i still want to add some more titles and i need to figure out some why to convey how the score came together visually.
feel free to add/ remix/ you know do what we do here to this.

oh and cause of its size... you most likely will need to download it to view it

I love Metaphorest's "Everything, baby" and I spent the last few days listening to it over and over again. So I decided to create a RECord out of this song.
Well, I'm a photographer not a video maker/editor so it's not thaaaat good, but I enjoyed REmixing videos and recording some new scenes (and we're all here to have fun, right?)
Hope you like it!

I wanted to do something for the Inception collab using photography, so I decided to mix loads of random pics with horrorshock's awesome animation (Little Red Balloon). It's like those crazy dreams full of disconnected images. It may not be suitable to the documentary but I really wanted to give it a try.

Perspective is one of our greatest attributes as human beings. It is far more important than we may even realize.

chriswonders' "Final Breaths of a Main Character" is the type of refreshing perspective on the world, and its possibilities both in reality and in imaginary form, that I love to discover here on the site.

It is a spectacularly shot video about a character who creates a fantasy world with a pencil, a piece of paper, and his imagination. And what unfolds is beyond fascinating. The visuals capture a sense of adventure, danger, and pure childhood fantasy.

I fused that together with the instrumental section of Afroskeleton's "Used To" and book-ended the piece with two spoken snippets of kellibean's "If."

The two RECords I REmixed for "An Artist's Dream" have some eerie parallels that I didn't even realize until I was about halfway into the editing stages.

rayperez's "A Glimmer of Hope/Someday Part 3" is the story of a lovers torn apart and yearning to be back together. And with lyrics like "Cause we're losing our mind" there is perhaps more to the story than we think.

chaos1111's "Art's Dream" is also about lovers apart. They communicate together in a dream, one that is filled with white walls and the occasional clash of colors.

Is he in an asylum? Is his dreamlike state one where he is alone, or with the girl?

The original REsources have been changed quite a bit. Especially rayperez's song. It has been rearranged and a lot of it has been taken out in the interest of time, pacing, and storytelling.

And if you give "Art's Dream" a full 1http://hitrecord.org/records/82368/edit#6 minute look I think you'll find a completely different arrangement and vibe. Hopefully I left a lot up to the viewer to interpret.

An other version of Ryan Patrick's beautiful tiny story, "I will not misbehave" + wirrow's "It's a wonderful life". Couldn't help it. Love it too much.
