i have a very difficult relationship with flowers all together especially orchids. i recognize that there are people who fancy them and i approve of their fancy yet i cannot really warm up to them. this is my tribute to my neglect of liking orchids and a light study/excercise with a more complex shape than lets say a vase or a face.

tried my best to have it look more graceful than a french bulldog.

i may have found one source of my dislike for orchids in the movie "adaptation" which i loved very much. it seems to have influenced me deeply. but it is not the only reason i do not like orchids although i know of a few species with crazy awesome shapes. there is even one that looks like a bird!

ps: again dead space and shit - never noticed but i seem to like it. found several dozen landscapes and stills with huge amounts of space done in-camera AND looking good... interesting. i may have blanked out on some of my pictures. what else do i not know?

Masterful execution of a Grass-Lying position. extremely basic setup with minimal to none technical requirements for maximal pleasure gathering and warmth accumulation.

notice a low stance and relaxed limbs allow for a proper dream-gathering position.
ADVANCED LEVEL participants observe the closure of eyes allowing for cinematic sequences inside ones own field of vision without the need for any electrical devices.
also note the burried face in the grass for a greatly improved intake of grassy odors complementing an in any measure excellent execution of Lying in the Grass.

Mastering this technique will earn you the maximum amount of credit automatically enrolling you in the final exam to test your now honed abilites to Lie in the Grass.

we saw this dude walking over from way back standing on one of many bridges in regensburg. he had the most layed back walk i have ever seen. so i took good measure and shot this one single picture of him walking right into my crosshairs. i liked it so much i did not even take another one to be sure.
his coolness transfered onto me so i could say: "yeah. that one picture and no other." if he was not so cool he might have looked silly. a thin line i suppose. he walked it masterfully.

this is part of the greek mythology series. inspired by the ages of man by hesiod which he wrote to understand the world of homer. so in a sense this is an homage to nietzsche who analysed both authors and made it easier for us iron-heads to understand the old-timey greeks. thanks fritz.

the composition was inspired by füsslis/fuseli's - the silence.

self portrait excercise to achieve beauty lighting with only one diffused beauty dish and a shit load of reflectors and bouncers. also an excercise in fashion to showcase that funky red button i made especially for hitrecord.

hitrecorder's creed:

"This is my recording hat. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My recording cap is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My recording cap, without me, is useless. Without my recording cap, I am useless. I must wear my recording cap true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to blind me. I must outshoot him before he outshoots me. I will..."

tech notes:
year: 2010
location: miedzyzdroje, poland

this picture has quite an evolution behind it. it started with a single seagull feather stuck in the sand which i documented to excess. then i came upon the big piece of alga and shot it for about 10 min with different patterns in the sand. forming new backgrounds and settings for it. i shot it upright, laying flat, turned top to bottom, bottom to top, left, right, left. while digging the background i found the smaller pieces of alga and most importantly this tiny piece of driftwood. at first i was completely mesmerized with only the little stick. it took me another 10 min of creeping about those 5inches of sand and a few stupified glances of my heavy set neighbors. i was alone there mind you.

after exhausting all i could think of and all my TTC lectures on philosophy of mind sparked in mine. i tilted my head like a dog would watching someone brushing their teeth. i do that from time to time to remind me of a different perspective. and BAM! there it was! i shifted down even more now in a full on sniping pose my crosshairs seemingly at one of the stranded whales surrounding me. while prone and moving only in millimeter increments i composed this scene in camera. by that i mean i was holding the camera to my eye with one hand while setting up the "pieces" with the other. all the while i had to use the now silly seeming feather to brush the sand and blow it flat.

in retrospect i am a bit disappointed i did not use my tripod which was next to me already set up from the shot i took of the see before. i was too excited about those little dry brown pieces of crap to think about tech.

i was there for more than an hour but came up with a range of different shots that were as dramatic as they were different. links to the other shots will follow as i post them.

loneliness is an interesting concept. you may experience the most beautiful thing and be sad because there is nobody there to share it with.

on the other hand you can treasure it most BECAUSE you do not have to share it with anyone. that moment is yours for ever and nobody else can have it.

question: will you make that moment so much more special and intimate when you have no way to share it with somebody else? when does loneliness become solitude or even serenity?

recent self portraits done with a new self made light modifier. nothing fancy just some foam rubber around the sb 28 and some contrast in lightroom for increased drama

i was looking for a proper handwritten HESHER tag on HR (when i was making this: http://hitrecord.org/records/392178) but could not find anything suitable. got a ballpen. scanned the tag in 600DPI. cleaned the edges. made the background transparent and put it on the kids fist.

now if anyone else wants to tag some bullshit HESHER-style - here you go motherfucker!

ps: the tif file is in a zip file - HR cannot do tif yet.

challenge in this record: take a catchy phrase and some weird ass typography and aim for the win.

RECord info:

inspired by this record and george carlin's quote "religion is an organized mass-panic about death"

duration: this has been changing all day long. started on paper with simple shapes. changed into a whole new thing which i will post later and wound down with this. future changes probable.

Venns-afraid_of_the_dark-rmx-001

original:

A little girl who was afraid of the dark looked out of her window and said,

"Oh Moon, how do you sleep without a night light?"

To her astonishment, the moon replied, with a sly wink:

"What do you think the stars are really for?"

- A tiny story by OrigamiArtichoke

RECord info:

original image is actually a mid-day shot but the lighting was very similar to a bright moon-lit night. OrigamiArtichoke's tiny story provided a cute backstory for the win.

well this was a surprise. i open my window and hear a soundcheck for a jazz band. not these pop to jazz cover bands but proper, serious, interesting jazz. i grab my bag. run down to the park and get to the venue just before the show starts. this image is about 2 minutes before the band sat down to play. the  band's name is: settembrini. here is a clip of them playing at the venue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB4DVtf5Ksk

here is an example of a fish eye lens effect. my first ever use of this somewhat strange device. strange since it "throws away" 3/4 of all the information on the sensor because the image that is hitting it is only 1/4 in size. very weird to look through the viewfinder and see this little semisphere with all the commotion in the middle.
