I wrote this track with movies like Fight Club, Cruel Intentions, and Kill Bill in mind. I believe it achieves a somber ambiance that is portrayed in each of those films although, this is not to say that it couldn't be used for something else. It features royalty free voice samples and a descending piano line. Enjoy!

I once had a dream that terrified me. This doesn't happen often.

It doesn't fit the archetypes. But I wanted to submit it anyway.

Musically speaking.

Smooth / Jazzy Hip Hop in 3 Flavors

Some original smooth hip hop grooves/beats in 3 different flavors. Mixed together, flowing from one to the next. Trying some stuff out.

This is a song I wrote with my friend Dawn a few years ago. I've come to love the lo-fi sound of it. It was recorded in my bedroom with a little 12" Vox practice amp.

For some reason this song makes me want to ride a horse somewhere really fast. Recorded sometime today, or... or yesterday.

This...this is something I thought I needed to post with you all. I haven't been a member here long, but I feel very comforted by the atmosphere within the community. I feel like you're all being not only creative, but also just, honest with your art. So here is...an emotion I never thought I would be able to get into words this properly. This song, the time of it all, strung by things I'm not sure I'll feel again. And I suppose, its about the idea of measuring it all in age. Regardless, thank you for giving me somewhere I feel I can share this, hitRECord.

Tell me open up the blinds,
and count the seasons by twisting arms.
The art is crooked every time I look,
or maybe staggering since June
has worn me down to tilted views.
And get tired of tossing, searching for your frame;
trudging back, I miss your name
attached to mine.

Because of you, I am this way.

And if I call tonight,
hang up.
There is nothing I can say
that I couldn't yesterday.
And forgetting smells on clothes
I should've tossed three months ago;
they don't belong to anyone.
And I won't own to sleeping,
clinging,
to a blouse.

Because of you, I am this way.

And tell me open up the blinds,
and count the seasons by twisting
arms.

*Harmonic guitar accompaniment by Daniel Resner.

Boeings, they crash all the time, fuel stream
Don’t plain yourself for the wait Rachel; they come
Europe’s sky gets colder every year, wind stream
Two by more, slow-step boarding half-way, they come

Less than white, I’m worried for this jet set, leave seat
Not so much the air itself until land and land will come
Simply I’ll ask you open up the shade, leave sheet
And lip off words you might not understand, and days will come

I’m feeling heavy
Like a tree that just won’t stand, but more away than anything before
I’m feeling dumbstruck
Like an overcrowded set of tiles, plasticized and cauterized for you
You’re surely leaving
Slamming arms and breaking cars, but I’ll keep laced in wicker ‘till we’re through

Folding glass won’t hold well when our breaths’ freeze, write out
Our mailing rooms will hold back lethal parts without consent
Staring down at our feet until we’re nothing, your pen
So hands draw close and I feel like a child, come home

Rachel dear, I hope you’re coming with me this fall
Seeing as ten is just so hard to go alone
We’ll run from the center of this town’s enthrall
And build our own paper cranes and aeroplanes to leave off on

I’m feeling restless
But it’s nothing sure of pins and rings, of gravel stones or diamond things for light
I’m feeling hopeful
Like a boy who knows his lover’s notes are scented accidentally by her clothes
I know you’re leaving
Sealing doors and closing stamps, so I’ll keep sealed the liquor here for you
I’ll keep here for you

I love the fake histories idea and thought it might be fun to do an audio recording of themetafictionist's Balance Beam story so it can be remixed for an animation, motion graphics piece, video, etc. Happy to do it again in a different tone/accent.

I added a track of electric piano:  A Wurlitzer 200A.  Also, I sang a couple of vocal parts to add to Chigwinkle's outstanding (as always) vocals.  I've had to resist the temptation to do more.  I've also uploaded stems for further remixing in another RECord.  This is my favorite music collaboration on hitRECord so far.

This isn't really what I had in mind when I was first inspired to play with this piece.  But I was somehow pulled in this direction, and since it felt like it was cooking, I took advantage of the opportunity to just have fun with it...As much as it's kinda unexpected dress in which to drape such a dark lyric.

The ideas are pretty well formed, but it's by no means "done".  Like, it feels "over" before it should be, IMO...Despite the long ambient section at the end.

I'm putting it out today because I'm not sure I'll be able to spend more time with it in the next few days, and I might forget to otherwise : )  So yeah:  Feel free to add new sections, parts, or arrange the parts I've created differently.

I'll be putting up stems shortly.  Everything has been conformed to a consistent tempo, and even the non-drum part at the end is at tempo should you care to use it, so it should offer lots of possibilities.

A song about someone getting older and looking back.

Lyrics

Up in the attic is a faded photograph
of your wedding day
that's the way time goes these days

Out of your window is an unfamiliar scene
You remember when it was all empty and green

You remember when people said
exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade

You remember when the universe felt young
and so did you
You remember when your love was fresh and new

Down in the basement is a box of broken dreams
Promises  pulled apart, torn at the seams

Phantoms and ransoms you picked up along the way
In a life lived right, that's the price you've got to pay

You remember when people said exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade

You remember when the universe felt young and so did you
You remember when your love was fresh and new

You remember when people said exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade

You remember when the things you held onto were owned, not lent
You remember when the people you loved stayed

Lyrics:

Cooler waters are rolling in, the tree house walls keep warm within.
My little thimble is wearing thin, tells a story on where it's been,
And it says,

My darling, I've seen it all before.
My darling, just close your eyes and soar.
My darling, walk through the door and I'll safely sail you to shore.

The sweet aroma of ocean spray, excites the mind like child's play.
And If this child begins to sway, I'll hold her tight and sail away and she'll say.

RECord #7:

And if I were to speak freely
Would you believe me
If I said I've lost the flame

Now I say without a doubt
That I cannot live without
Understanding why You came

I cannot say anymore
That I know just what I'm living for
I cannot play this game anymore
I have lost the reason and the war.

(Will upload separate vocals too)

I've got a letter in my head for you I'm sick and tired of playing dead for you I've gotta come back, I've gotta come back to life Turn the clocks back, turn the clocks back, I'm alright My lips are frozen and my hands are numb The cracks are showing but I'm playing dumb I've got jump off, I've gotta let go this lie Let the truth out, let the truth out or let it die

Water floats around my head

Water floats around my head

Clouds move in and hide the sun

I close my eyes and take a breath

A lark is singing overhead

You say "Yes, we're sinking now,

But can you hear that wondrous sound?"

Ooh

We're sinking now

We're sinking down

We're sinking now

We're sinking down

I close my eyes for one last breath

A lark is singing overhead

You say "Yes, we're sinking now,

But can you hear that wondrous sound?"

I adored this piece of music by arthsaw so I added vocals. I'd love to hear further musical additions to it too. I'll upload stems if anyone needs em :)

The universe is larger than
Your senses can perceive
That’s what I believe
That is what I believe

All our tests and trials
Are ocean drops
I’m not a fan of full stops.
Or always coming out tops

There’s a certain comfort
In certainty
But that’s not my cup of tea
It’s earl grey for me

Cos we’re not living in a black and white world
Though I wish we were
If we weren’t so obsessed with proving
Maybe we’d be improving

Be right or be happy
This is your choice
Now will you use your voice
Or spout a lot of old noise

I want to live with question maarks
No resolutions please
Don’t cross my t’s

Look around you
Where the fates have found you
And ask why

We will never know the answers
But we have to try
We have to try

thanks to megan's beautiful piano additions and rob's absolutely spot-on mixing, this song has finally come to life after about a month of hard work. this is by far the hardest i've ever worked on a song, and i hope you all enjoy it.

i truly love this community, and i love the friends i have made from it. this song encapsulates how i feel about life, hitRECord, just...everything.

so anyway - thanks, everybody.
