A video for the Cities Collaboration for SITC.
I live in the Scottish Highlands, so I thought I would show you around. Add in some of my ramblings about cities and we have a video!

Apologies for:

a) The quality: I filmed this on my mobile phone, and the sounds goes a bit at the end, which is a bit unfortunate.

b) My appearance. That was one big-ass hill I climbed, so I look a little bedraggled..please forgive!

c) The little bug, who tried to steal the limelight around 3.05!
Lots of love,

Pamela

One of my favourite poems of all time, I thought this poem would make a great wee video for HitRecord.

Although many say that this poem is all too much about Victorian stoicism and the British "stiff upper-lip", I think much of the message in this poem can still be applied to us today: dig in, be the change, and never give in.

Sportsmen, politicans, revolutionaries, the masses, the lone man...whatever our mission in life, let's do it to the best of our ability. To have the courage to face the trials, and the ability to inspire, motivate and to encourage.

I was really inspired by the great videos Matt Conley has been making in his "I Am.." series. He has some really great footage that I have used and mixed in with some that I found on Archive.org. The reading of the poem is also from archive.org, simple and effective.

Again (I seem to be using this piece of music in a lot of my videos), "Atardecer a Caballo" by Neilhouse just seemed to fit the bill. It is fast becoming one of my favourite Records on HitRecord.

I would love people to take this, remix, and play around with it: there are a lot of talented people out there, and my video attempt is very much that of a novice :)

Lots of love,

Pamela

OK, so I would first like to give you a little bit of background to my reasoning in creating this.

Yesterday, I found out that my brother has been accepted to Sandhurst. This is the British Officer Training Academy for the British Army. All of a sudden, what we have all seen for many years on the television was filtering into my my own life. In what might be as little as 18 months, my brother would be putting his life on the line, leading men into a warzone. There is no way that I can hide behind the flimsy shield of a television screen anymore.

Although I may not support the reasons why I country may choose to go to war, I am firmly behind the people who, when the decision has been made, gather their belongings, say goodbye to their families and take a step into unknown peril. They walk, heads high, into the Inferno.

I studied Dante's "Divine Comedy" at university, and the horror that Dante describes as he descends into Hell leaks off the page into your mind. His words ring home even now, when we recall the images of war that have been broadcast over the past century.

"The woeful people who have lost the good of the intellect"
I really don't want this line to be misinterpreted. What Virgil is describing are the souls who could not put their faith in something in life: they are doomed to spend eternity chasing a white flag, unsure of where to go.

I do not want people to think that I consider the soldiers "The woeful people", devoid of intellect. They are not. What I mean to say is: when the power of the word is no longer enough, primal instinct kicks in: and there are those chosen few who are designated to defend us.

I do not deny that this video is depressing. Perhaps it is too pessimistic: I have always wanted to work with Dante's writings, and the horror of war is something that although we may have not witnessed it directly, we have all been indirectly influenced by it. It has, unfortunately, become somewhat of an everyday occurence.

"Abandon all hope, all ye who enter here"
These are perhaps some of the most famous lines written by Dante. The world is not a perfect place. And there are times, yes, when even the best of us lose hope. But as Virgil says; we must put aside our distrust and arm ourselves with courage: for it is up to us to be the change.

This idea was partly inspired by Wirrow's "And a new earth". Wirrow's video challenges us to look beyond the 4 walls of what society deems to be "the norm", and look out, branch out.

I wanted this video to make us do the same. We cannot escape reality. We must accept that war, inevitably, is something that we will have to live with. But to be the GOOD in the world, when there is so much distress, hardship and pain...that is the real challenge.

Again, this video is very rough, and horribly primative. Feel free to remix, re-record, and re-inspire.

Lots of love,

Pamela

I absolutely loved this short film! I had a go at the French subtitles...the audio quality isn't great, but in the end I quite liked..I wanted to make it sound like it was someone was making a recording, a grainy train of thought.

My video editing software is limited, but it is a first try!

I loved Neilhouse's "Atardecer A Caballo"..again, I just thought it fitted perfectly.

Lots of love

I was inspired by the sad, black and white film by daysandhours "Sans Toi (Je ne peux pas vivre)".
And I really like bicycles. I saw Matt Conley's "A Monkey Boy's Dream" and "The Bicycle: A Tiny Story", and decided to use the footage, because I loved the grainy effect used. I thought the music by Neilhouse, "Atardecer A Caballo" fitted perfectly: simple and melancholy.

This is the first time I have ever touched a Movie Making program, so the result is pretty crude! So I really actively encourage people to play around with this, make it better!

I chose Italian because I studied it, I love it, and bicycle reminds me of the Italian film "The Bicycle Thief". Really great film. I wanted to give the bike a life, give it a personality. We abuse them, throw them around. But in the end, that is their only purpose: they wouldn't want to do anything else.

Here is a translation of the text:

- The Bicycle

- Once upon a time...

-...I was young too...

-...but now...

-...I am broken.

-From dusk...

-...till dawn...

-...you abuse me.

- But please...

-...don't leave me alone.

- The End.

Italian speakers, please let me know if I have messed up!!

Lots of love,

I loved Richie Millenium's video, putting all the contributions from the city collab together and weaving a story into through it. I thought it would be a really nice idea to create a video in a similar vein, but by using the contributions that related to the country. There weren't as many videos/soundbites with country related stuff, but I think there is still a good message in the video!

Now, my editing skills are pretty rubbish, so this video is still very raw and rough. It would be great if someone could take this and smooth it out a little?

Hope people enjoy it!

Lots of love,

Pamela

An idea for an intro for SITC.
My thanks once again to the creative awesomeness of Matt Conley: his Creative Process Intro pretty much inspired this entire thing. Dandruff's "Truly Human" rings very true as well, it's a cracking wee audio RECord.
I thought, well we have had a high power intro, a simple, snazzy a cappella intro....why not have a trippy, creepy, thought provoking intro that looks back at all the work that ahs been done for these shows?

Made in Windows Movie Makers, it's all I've got, so some of the editing might be a bit rough. I just wanted to get it up here so see what people think!

Much love!

BETTER QUALITY VERSION HERE: http://hitrecord.org/records/215680

The Glitch Waltz.
Haus of Glitch mentioned on Twitter he wanted to make a "Dancing Tutorial" esque video for the Fall Formal, and this idea kinda just sprung from that. This was also inspired by RKBear's awesome GIF for Fall Formal...I love how all the characters look like they are dancing.

And Fred Astaire is awesome, he is just so incredible to watch..

The quality is a bit sticky because of the low-res that I need to use to get it up on the site...a bit annoying, but I will try and upload a higer quality version for REmixing purposes!
This still needs a bit of work (it's my first attempt at anything Glitch related!), no doubt I will come back to it, but in the meantime, if anyone wants a go...you know what to do!

I just love the words that phenomenaaa, Toss and visignorini put together.

I couldn't figure out whether this would sound better with or without music, so I uploaded the one with music, but tell me what you guys think! I felt it lightened the mood, instead of making the words sound overly-somber

How it all began for me!

The recordings used are all (after lots and lots of checking) in the Public Domain!

The first one is the 1903 Recording of the Toreador's Song by the Damrosch (New York Symphony) Orchestra. You can find it here:
http://publicdomainaudiovideo.blogspot.com/2010/03/toreador-song-from-carmen-by-georges.html

The second is "Por Una Cabeza", sung by Carlos Gardel. You can find this one here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Carlos_Gardel_-_Por_Una_Cabeza.ogg

If anyone is interested, here is the link to the scene from "Scent of a Woman" that I talk about:

And this is a link to a better quality recording of the Toreador's Song:

I really enjoyed reminscing about my earliest memories of Art, this is a great wee collaboration!

Still not entirely happy with this...it feels kinda random, not coherent yet.
It is a video set to the reading of Guy de Maupassant's poem "Désirs"...thank you to AmbreNotAmber for bringing it to my attention!

I used lots of resources and I hope I got them all, but if not please let me know.

Sorry for the poor quality recording....I really need to get some better equipment :-/

If anyone has any tips on how to make this better or wants to put their own spin on it, it would be greatly appreciated!

This is not my most hi-tech video, not the most exciting. But it is certainly the most heartfelt, and the most emotional.

This is me setting off my heartshaped sky lantern in memory of Burning Dan. The beginning is me writing lots of things on the lantern...it doesn't show up because I had to do it very lightly, so as not to rip the tissue!
But here is a list of what I wrote on the lantern:

"Victory Ice Cream!" (complete with drawing)
"Again by heart"
"Encore par coeur"
"Are we recording?"
"On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur. L'essentiel est invisible aux yeux" (The Little Prince)
"Encore par coeur"
"To Dan, sending balloons of love and art to you in the big flow temple in the sky"
"Peace, peace! He is not dead, he doth not sleep - he hath awakened from the dream of life. Tis we, who lost in stormy visions keep with phantoms an unprofitable strife." (Percy Bysshe Shelley)
"A te che sei l'unico al mondo, l'unica ragione, per arrivare fino in fondo ad ogni mio respiro, quando ti guardo doppo un giorno pieno di parole, senza che tu mi dica niente, tutto si fa chiaro" (Lorenzo Jovanotti, a song I love very much)
"Atmospheric Woes" by fractaldust
Poem by cchellez
"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is greater than the suffering itself" (Paulo Coelho)
"He will burn on" (Lizzie Mackie)
"Outside, beyond what is right and wrong, there exists a vast field. We will find each other there." (Rumi)
"A friend is a single soul dwelling within two bodies. HitRECord is a thousand souls dwelling within a single entity."

This was a really beautiful experience for me. I asked my parents to help me with lighting and filming the lantern: I was quite nervous.embarassed about asking them, because I hadn't told them about my involvement with HitRECord, I thought they would think it a waste of time. But I was so happy with how keen they were to get involved, and how they too found the experience beautiful. My mum especially was very moved by the whole experience, praying for a man that she didn't know and had only heard about a few minutes before. The whole experience made me a lot closer to my parents, and I was so happy to hear that they were proud of my involvement with HitRECord. I thank Dan for bringing us together for that special moment :)

Apologies for the bad quality/slow pace of this video. Not a lot happens, but I didn't want to miss anything out :)

I hope Dan gets all the love

I like when you can listen to a song and close your eyes and you get carried away with it until the song reaches it's climax and all the emotion is condensed into a single moment. I think opera is a really good example of this, all the drama and emotion of 2 hours of singing can be found in a single note.

I think this could still use a lot of refining, it felt a bit vague to me, but I figured it might inspire someone to remix!

It was Burns Night here yesterday, so I wanted to try cutting something to a Robert Burns poem. This is a very sweet, sad song, but when I put it to PASIV's music on the offchance, it gave the words bitter, desperate edge (no offence PASIVo, your music is not desperate and bitter!).

PS: Lyrics

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae fareweel, alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee!
Who shall say that Fortune grieves him
While the star of hope she leaves him?
Me, nae cheerfu' twinkle lights me,
Dark despair around benights me.
I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy;
Naething could resist my Nancy;
But to see her was to love her,
Love but her, and love for ever.
Had we never loved sae kindly,
Had we never loved sae blindly,
Never met—or never parted,
We had ne'er been broken-hearted.
Fare thee weel, thou first and fairest!
Fare thee weel, thou best and dearest!
Thine be ilka joy and treasure,
Peace, enjoyment, love, and pleasure!
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever!
Ae fareweel, alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee!

Happy Valentine's Day NomiTran! <3

I thought I would release something emotional, since it's been a while ^___^

Happy Valentines to all of you. I love you all just as much on February 14th as I do every other day of the year...except on the 14th I might buy you an overpriced teddybear just to prove it ^___^

Cacheth suggested a reading of Sarah's poem "Dear Autocrat" to the "Tamquam Reus". I stumbled upon the comment and had to give it a go.

"I will not give up," said Gaddafi.

"Neither will we," said the Libyan people.

You remember playing hide and seek,

Running in a tiny apartment.

Adventure courses full of spiders’ webs.

Smart tricks to avoid a kiss on the lips.

The kid pretending to be Superman, his towel

Tied around his neck and some

Sunglasses on his nose.

Tea spoons from the wedding set

Which all ran away in the trash one day,

Quotes, now famous: “Do you want a Malbo light?”

Never-ending giggles.

Anonymous postcards.

Candy blackmails just because you refused to play a game.

This is your childhood.

Because of the years and distance, you’ve grown apart.

But most of the time you’ll meet again for a communion, a wedding,

A funeral.

Sometimes, you have to start from the very first step, as if you

Were facing a stranger.

Your memories aren’t theirs; and he’s already a man,

She’s already a woman.

They travel to Africa, to Austria.

They want to save lives, from hunger or from flames.

They believe their desires are reality,

So you become a dreamer at your turn.

Then you realise that “it’s all or nothing.”

When it appears you got nothing, it’s life,

But it doesn’t mean you love them less than before.

It’s just, now, you admire them from afar.

It’s your blood.

Or the souvenirs of an old friendship that we wanted to preserve.

But whether the relation is obvious or not,

It’s family.

And this is exactly why this is so beautiful.

Thank you to Cinammon for writing such beautiful words, recording a beautiful VO and generally inspiring this whole thing. Merci merci merci <3

In March 2011, London based artist wirrow released his latest work, dreamdreamdream. Met with critical acclaim, the story behind the song, however, has been largely a mystery.

Until now.

With unprecedented access to original recordings and never before seen footage, Pamagotchi Productions reveals the true meaning this audio masterpiece, and the lengthy struggle by artists all over the world to bring it to the masses.

Version 1 of a visual remix of tommacarte's "Summer in Spain". This one is a bit...breathy and soft..kinda melodramatic. But it is the first take that came to me when I was working on this poem. I am working on another version which incorporates Tom's awesome reading, but I just wanted to get this out there to get some feedback. Also...can anyone recommend some more appropriate guitar footage? Preferably of an acousitc guitar?

...Quite literally. My dad was asked to take part in a medieval reenactment...so he borrowed one of those suits of armour you find in the hallways of stately homes [from his friend who owns one of those stately homes]. None of this lightweight plastic aluminium armour for him. He's wearing chainmail too.

My dad is a hero. He likes to pretend he's sensible, but, inside, he's 64 going on 20.

OK, here is v.2 of the visual remix to Tommacarte's poem. This time, I have changed the guitar music (still from musopen.org), ironed out/added some visuals and added Tom's reading of the poem!

Again, comments and con-crit would be much appreciated! I keep seeing things I would like to tweak, so would appreaciate any feedback!

I really wanted to put some visuals to tori's wonderful poem, but from the perspective of the girl herself, as if she was looking back/looking down on happier times, and the days/moments leading up to the moment where she decided to take her life.

Inspired by phen's wonderful gratitude RECord...it inspired me to finish this video for the "I Love" collaboration, speak about what I am grateful for [nowhere near as eloquently as phen can!!] and generally just spread the love.

After making this, I realise that in the spur of the moment there are so many things I have left out!! I could have made a full length movie....so I am just going to RECord them here:

I love Italy

I love smells

I love horses

I love HitRECord

I love high heeled shoes

I love twirly skirts

I love romance

I love movies that make you cry

I love movies that make you laugh

I love the feel of grass under bare feet

I love hands.

Happy Friday 13th!

So, I was very excited to hear about the up and coming HitRECord vinyl: alas, I am no good at drawing, so I decided to channel my excitement into a visual record: an ad, inspired by the HitRECord merchandise record by Matt Conley.

I got this far with the video..however I have come to a bit of creative crossroads..so I thought I would throw it up here and see if you guys can help me out!

I wanted to combine old PD clips with records of HR musicians doing their thing. Now, I think this clip might be a bit PD heavy [having trouble downloading and using Windows Media files in iMovie..anyone know of a solution/converter?], so I think it definitely use some more musicians strutting their stuff.

I also think it really needs some kind of voice over...I have taken clips from PD videos at the beginning, but think there needs to be more of an "Ad V.O" in a similar style going on throughout the clip...?

Yeah, so basically, I have put it up here for you all to play with. Feel free to chop and change anything you like, I would be really interested to see what people come up with!

Thaaaanks!

Version 2 of the Living Sound advert for the new HitRECord vinyl! Thanks to Matt Conley who gave me some tips on taking this ad to the next stage.

I have shortened down the advert to more of a teaser, and added more voice over clips from Marke and Joe's Vinyl intro video.

Again, thoughts and suggestions on how to improve this would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Another little project I have been working on. I wanted to make a sort of teaser trailer for the RECollection/WREC radio...give the idea of what is gonna be going on without giving too much away. Have arrived at the good ol' creative crossroads again, and thought I would stick this version up here to get an idea of what could be improved, whether I should go back to the drawing board...

I'm limited by the software I have available...I would love to make the visuals a bit more chaotic like the soundtrack!

This is the poem "My Love is Like a Red Red Rose"by Robert Burns set to the traditional tune.

Love can be beautiful and strange and exciting, but it is also about sacrifice. Love is knowing there will be obstacles, and being determined to overcome them. Love is going to the ends of the earth and back again, or down the street to the corner shop. Love encompasses all extremes, all highs, all lows, all directions, all emotions.

Love can be painful: but with it's pain it brings hope, determination and courage.

A Story in Wishes

When I made the request for 11/11/11 wishes, I genuinely thought I would have a handful of responses to play around with in the short time I had available. To my utter delight, nearly 90 responses later, I have cut together what I hope is a fitting tribute to the words and wishes of a varied and talented group of HitREcorders.

In the end, the success was my downfall: I simply didn't have enough time to fully carry out the idea I had in the short space of time. But the more I edited the wish videos, the more I realised that in fact the videos speak for themselves: they speak of hope, courage, remembrance, sadness, fear, happiness, determination. My little collage, my little fingerprint in bringing you all together in a single picture became an after thought.

To everyone who contributed, my very deepest thanks. Your courage and inspiration were truly wonderful to work with.

My 11/11 wish is for this community to keep spreading it's wings, and to forever endeavour to create, achieve and inspire.

I hope that, even in some small measure, all your wishes come true <3

PS: on a lighter note, I hope no one is creeped out by my red stained hands [paint] and the fact that I have lots of your faces on a wall gathered round a bright red circle! <3

PPS: currently trying to resource LOTS of names, some of whom sent videos by email and I wasn't sure of their HitREcord name. If you sent me a video and don't see a resource, please let me know! I used every single one I received :D <3

Low Res Version: the High Res version won't upload! :(

My first baby steps back into video editing...
