a sort of stream of consciousness-y thing ive been writing lately. i saw this timelapse vid today by bluebudgie and was really inspired to experiment with it. i understand how this might be seen as political or preachy or offensive.. but i honestly dont mean to be any of those things. it is directed at me more than anyone else. there's a lot of literary reference nod's in the text.

sub-point: the track is an instrumental version of everything is on fire

So, how on earth did this mess of a video happen? I'm a little confused, myself.

This is only my second video, and I had intended on doing a rendition of "The Final Poem (Through the Looking GLass)", but along the way... it became a bit too dark and I felt it didn't fit with what I had envisioned. So, I let that go, and went in the direction I felt like going in. Which, I have to say, was one hell of a pain in the ass, but kind of that dull pain that sort of feels good. I just wish my computer did not crash every 10 mins, because I so could have used the sleep.

And, thus, the video was born. I don't have much of an idea as to what it's supposed to express, but a child's conception of blah blah blah sounded good enough. It needs a name to define itself from all your wonderful RECords.

I hope someone can do something with it, it feels a little unfinished to me, and I'm a bit pissed off that the marks were off as they were not before the birthing of my creation into existence. Shucks!

Anyways, Voila! Enjoy. . . or not.
-Ambre

Update: I remember now what the intent of the video was, after watching the comparative tests video listed below, I felt saddened for the child and wondered what sort of memories that child would have, thoughts and feelings and tried to translate them above. There.
Thanks.

As you might know, hitRECord is putting on a series of live events this summer and I’m looking for some live acts to share the stage with me. Submit here ~ http://www.hitrecord.org/records/143211

Bands, Comedians, Poets, Clowns...anything! Show us and the hitRECord community what you got. Upload a video of you performing, and contribute it to the aforementioned and linked Collaboration.

(Also, we don’t have a budget for travel/accommodation, unfortunately. So we need to keep it local.)

Shows are at PIANOS on the Lower East Side: August 16, 30 and September 6.

I've been working on this little thing for a few hours every night for the past week, mostly because I'm at my job for 11 hours, but also because the render capacity of my Macbook slowly declined as I added more and more layers to the project. I really tried to focus on keeping each of the cuts in time with the music, and as it crescendos, having the visual complexity of the image become more and more pronounced.

The road footage was taken by me, either in Sarasota, Tampa, or Fort Myers. I can upload these files separately if anyone wants to use them without the context of the rest of the video.

So people were suggesting that I should make my previous video longer. I did although I did not succeed in finding people saying Repition. lol... so If someone wants to perhaps just speak into their computer mic or something, and say repetition, than I shall make a version numero trois! Awesome. Thank you everyone.
Back to studying.

Here's a pencil and paper animation I did for the Nothing Big collab. It took me weeks to get it done, but it was worth it! Thank you RegularJOE for the lovely song! I hope you guys like it and find it useful.

I tried several times to upload this but every time it failed miserably when encoding. Eventually, this version worked but unfortunately the quality is still awful. If anyone has any tips on export settings for uploading to hitRECord.org they would be greatly received!

This is my first attempt at stop frame animation, lots of trial and error!

I apologise for the changes in lighting - I wasn't able to effectively keep out the natural, changing light or find an alternative light source to counteract it. Also, the board moves quite a bit, I don't have a tripod so fixed up a makeshift bundle of books, bottles and blu-tack!

Still....

I hope you like it.

I just recently discovered HitRecord.Org, and I love it. Nothing Big was the first thing I clicked on when entering this site, and I loved it soo much that I had to make something to go with it. Enjoy!
p.s. I had to dumb down the quality a bit because it was a huge file. :(

I want to say thanks to all who contributed so far, your RECords are incredible and they made my night such an honor to be able to screen them.

And thank you to all who watched on our live stream, we felt you in the room that night.

Okay, we got a show to put on. Let's get to work.

Thanks again.

A couple days ago I saw my dad carrying a stack of used drafting paper . I asked what he was doing he said throwing it out. I told him that's nonsense! So I took it ,grabbed my sisters old school project paint and made a little something inspired by Joe's lovely song. Just doing my part for the recycling community :)
P.s Its a little to long for the Nothing Big song so if any superhero remixers or songstresses have any tricks to make it work, it would make me smile♥

Here's what I've been working on this week for the RE:Cities collaboration. I found a story weaving through the things some of you were saying about cities, and I put various clips of city noise under it, and various clips of city video over it.

Well the next 'SUMMER IN THE CITY' show is tomorrow night!
VIDEO EDITORS! Check out the collaboration Glitch 'Live Acts' Video. http://hitrecord.org/records/186702 haus_of_glitch came through like a champ with multiple remixes of our 'Live Acts' submissions. We're gonna play "LiveActs Upbeat Version 2.0" at the show tomorrow. So let's collaborate to make a rough edit of visuals for this track to project along with it tomorrow night. Then we can refine it and make it perfect in the future.

We're still refining our results with the Row/Alice/Dream collab and RE: Cities, keep up the great work you all have done so far.

Also, Looks like we have so many great tiny stories coming in that I am hoping to print a completely new book of them for this weeks show.

Alright, again we will be streaming and RECording all the way through the show tomorrow. "Keeping the RECord spinning" as they say.

thanks again
J

This is the version of Morgan M. Morganson's Date with Destiny that screened at Sundance 2010. Throughout the festival, this is the one we'd show as our example. Whenever anybody asked, "what is hitRECord?" this was my answer: "Here, watch this short film we're making; you'll never believe who did it and how!"

Albert proposed an off-kilter writing exercise, and then Metaphorest's beautifully strange short story inspired it all. I read the story aloud, Jenyffer.Maria started drawing the characters, Tori animated Jen's drawings, Lula and I did a live-action rendition, Lawrie Brewster took the project to soaring heights with his gorgeous visuals, and along the way there was the help, encouragement and roughly 180 contributions from throughout our community. We brought it to Sundance, and Nathan coaxed the lush and vast music out of the newly coined hitRECorchestra. (Good_Girl_Indie has written out a fabulously detailed timeline documenting what happened and when along this RECord's progression.)

Not only did we close our (two) official hitRECord screening(s) in the New Frontier Microcinema with this piece, but the next day, Sundance added it as a short film to play before the award-winning feature HOMEWRECKER on a much bigger screen.

I actually watched the thing again just now. And I can whole-heartedly say that, besides the progressive methodology with which it was made, and besides the warm reception it received at Sundance, just purely as a little piece of art, as a short film, as a RECord -- I'm as proud of Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny as I am of any work I've ever done.

Thank you, everyone, for making it all happen!
and thanks again...

Well, this is just a ridiculous little snippet of a video I put together this afternoon in an effort to help with the Haus of Glitch LiveActs thingy. I was intrigued by this particular bit of the RECord because there is no video clip corresponding to these particular lyrics. It SEEMED like it might be fun to just find video RECords where people were just saying each word, and then shove them all together. And, well... I don't know. But here it is. Whether it works or whether it doesn't, it's always fun just to watch how expressively Lizziemackie speaks, isn't it?

The fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina has just passed and I wanted to contribute a REmix of Neilhouse's beautifully tragic song "Blue Dog," which is all about the city of New Orleans, to the "RE: Cities" project.

Definitely a somber piece, but I'm hoping the closing involving the musicians ends this one on a positive note for you, the viewer.

Update (09/05/10): I add this to "THE REGULARITY #33 09/05/10" as a result to show an idea of what can be done for Tiny Stories... I wish to have enough time to do a different and new proposition for Monday but it's already 5 pm here in France and I have a lot of things to do (and I'll already a part of my night for that haha)
