first track on album 'spilt milk', but copyright shmoppyrights. right? rights.

and someone asked for the lyrics:

drag your feet, keep your life strapped to your shoulders.

if you don't carve your age into your belt, you wont get any older

it's a mixed up masquerade, a penniless arcade

every face a frown, oh what a crazy town

hang your head, they'll steal the toes right off of your feet

you're lucky to count all ten, when you're living on the street

its a story thats been told, a body thats been sold

'round and around and around. oh what a crazy town

(see) joy around here comes in a little pink balloon

and if you got out of here yesterday it wouldn't be too soon

it's a cardboard palisade, a pocket change brigade

every way is down. oh what a crazy town

A Record of Elevens from Back in the Day

This is called "eleven elevens" and it was made by dan, Joe and the Teafaerie, way back in Thailand the week the first public participation version of HitRECord was conceived and begun in earnest. Probably on something like the same day. Made with fire and slapping sounds. Mostly a resource, but releasing it as a record because I want to. Thought it was appropriate.

so this is what we have so far...
if you would like to contribute more instruments i'm looking for some stand up bass, acoustic guitar, cello, harp, basically anything classical :o)
here's the collab link: http://hitrecord.org/records/132262#contribute_to_132262

PLEASE READ: =)

*Firstly: If you choose to work on this, THANK YOU! =) i look forward to working with you!

*SONG IS IN 120 bpm

*this is the new version of "pieces" i just spent all day recording. although it is now free of the refrigerator hum, there is still a hiss that i can't seem to get rid of. hopefully with your help i'll be able to mask the sound with something much more pleasant.
i also couldn't recreate the original raspyness of my voice no matter how much sand i gargled, forced coughed or chain smoked. i don't know what was wrong with my voice that day but i loved it! =( oh well.

*what i'm looking for is organic instruments like violin, viola, cello, harp, acoustic guitar, bass. I would very much like for the music to compliment the song, slow and sultry, sad. obviously there are exceptions to every rule so please feel free to experiment , to sample, chop, and do whatever you wish to it, but the above things are what i really would like and if i get, i will be using.

*Important: if you do put something up, please accompany your post with an instrumental only track so that i can download and mix them on my own computer =)

*if you need inspiration my influences include:
bat for lashes

beachouse

goldfrapp (older stuff)

blonde redhead

radiohead

portisehead...obviously, i love head.

*lastly if you need a click track let me know.

Lyrics:

i've been going in circles
with you in the center
i was burnt by the fall
i was burnt by the fall
ran your hair through my fingers
the haunt of it lingered
i was burnt by the fall
i was burnt by the fall
I buried all traces of you in the woods
for the animals and insects to sift through
they'll find you in pieces
if they find you at all
i wrote your name in a circle
put a lock of your hair in the middle
and i burned it all
i burned it all
i fanned the smoke with my fingers
making sure just ashes lingered
and i burned it all
i burned it all
I buried all traces of you in the woods
for the animals and insects to sift through
they'll find you in pieces
if they find you at all
i took your
spell off of me
i washed my hands
of our synergy
i loved you to pieces
i took your
spell off of me
i cut the
strings of your memory
i loved you to pieces

A cheesy but hearfelt little tune about this magical place and why it is I stick around...

Oh and please add bits/yourself to it! Clap your hands, shake your keys, sing along - whatever you feel like!

Lyrics!

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record

Again by heart
from the start
I could see
that you were all like me
And you wanted to be free
to share the things that made you happy

There's a kind of synergy
when a brain
and another brain collide
I'm not just me
I'm a cog in the wheel
of a giant family

I wanna make my mark
make a spark
that makes you wanna
make magic, make art
I wanna hit your heart
like cupid with a dart

I hit record
cos I'm bored
or if I wanna be
more than a piece of dust
before I start to rust
I'm gonna hit record (x3)

A song about independence and codependence.

My friend Bonnie and I made this song together. She wrote the lyrics, and I sang and produced and composed the music. I hope you enjoy :)

two circles for heads and dots for eyes

just sticks and lines and a pencil writes

two bodies lie under the ticking of time

waiting for the day when their worlds collide

does my body mimic the things your eyes

explain with a silence like in a mime

of words, these shallow words that i think

of everything you've ever gotten by doing things

will you let me fall when i'm not brave

enough to repeat the things you say

or will you save me despite waiting every day

i keep you waiting

when the sun sinks down and you go to bed

am i still the thought running in your head

or are you done and you've given up, your heart is spent

because i just can't say it

do i try to help you, just a boy in his wake

or do i just sit because i know how you think

and my offers are just pebbles thrown into your pond

and eventually you'll leave me for so and so long

will you let me fall when i'm not brave

enough to repeat the things you say

or will you save me despite waiting every day

i keep you waiting

when the sun sinks down and you go to bed

am i still the thought running in your head

or are you done and you've given up, your heart is spent

because i just can't say it

i don't know if i can say it

how do i explain in words that are lucid

when adolescent minds are just filthy and putrid

and the things i do don't convey

well in enough the things you need me to say

will you let me fall when i'm not brave

enough to repeat the things you say

or will you save me despite waiting every day

i keep you waiting

when the sun sinks down and you go to bed

am i still the thought running in your head

or are you done and you've given up, your heart is spent

because i just can't say it

i don't know if i want to say it

So a certain Lawrie Brewster challenged me to write a song about the painter Goya...and, loving a challenge, I hit up Wikipedia and came up with this!

I have chords again, this time I didn't even have to make up any :)

Em D
You painted disasters of war and descents into madness
Em D
They called your nude maja a whore and poured salt on your sadness
G D F C
Blackened Myths, Mirrors, and Memories of you take hold
Em F D Em
If only your father the gilder had sealed you in gold
Em F D C
If only your father the gilder had sealed you in gold

C Em
You painted yourself in the foreground
C Em
With the monsters and men but without sound
F C
a life lived in silence, in torment
F Em D
We’ll never know Goya what you meant

Em D
They say you fought bulls in your youth, now you fight your own fears
Em D
Between the clock and the bed, left to count down the years
G D F C
At Quinta Del Sordo you lived in the house of the deaf
Em F D Em
And painted black paintings when blackness was all you had left
Em F D C
And painted black paintings when blackness was all you had left

C Em
You painted yourself in the foreground
C Em
With the monsters and men but without sound
F C
a life lived in silence, in torment
F Em D
We’ll never know Goya what you meant

Em D
The absence of reason bred monsters inside of your head
Em D
Your paint was a poison, they say you were deafened by lead
G D F C
The Gods eat their sons and your daughter was branded a bastard
Em F D Em
You spent your last days wishing death’s sweet release would come faster
Em F D C
You spent your last days wishing death’s sweet release would come faster

C Em
You painted yourself in the foreground
C Em
With the monsters and men but without sound
F C
A life lived in silence, in torment
F Em D
We’ll never know Goya what you meant

Thanksgiving 2008 dan RECorded me playing this. Now I mostly like it for his gentle "thank you" at the end.

He found it sort of incredible when I told him just how much music throughout space and time is all built around the same three chords. And, in fact, that the intervals of those chords' harmonies are suspiciously similar to the same golden intervals found in a snail's shell or the Milky Way's spiral.

For the origins of my -- and our -- attraction to that extreme and mean number known as Phi, here's ESCARGOTS ~~ http://hitrecord.org/records/9667

Well, he was determined to acquire a natural sense of said same three chords, and so, two years ago, before the holiday's family festivities began, he sat me down on his couch and asked me to play them. The teafaerie was there too; you can hear her camera beep at the end. It's no studio recording, and the guitar's not exactly in tune, but dan actually had a pretty high-quality portable audio recorder, and he couldn't hear small differences in pitch anyway ;op

After that, he listened to these couple minutes of audio more repetitively than I've ever seen anybody listen to anything. Especially when he was busy coding the v3 website for hitRECord. On his iTunes "playcount", where most songs have one or two "plays", and the second-highest song boasts a couple hundred, this record has several thousand.

thanks again <3

This is my final version of Half of Me.

I want to thank everyone who worked so hard on this song, even those of you who's contributions I didn't use, it meant so much to me that you took the time to try and help. I tried to put as many parts in as I could, it just started to get muddled for me at a certain point so that I had to weed it down until I got this final product.
It was very hard for me to do that, especially with xoSasha, macjames61 and SpectrumCJ because I really liked what you guys did, I just couldn't (with my limited expertise) make it work.
So again please don't take it personal if I didn't use you...I loved all the contributions!

a special thanks to hedge, braun22, macjames6, shadowstorm88, and venns who have been with this project since the first day I uploaded it and have spent countless hours tweeking and playing around.

As far as the arrangement, it couldn't have happened without hedge's instrumentation which I used as the guideline for the song, so
thank you thank you thank you!!
also to IlliterateWriter and michellek for the incredibly beautiful violin parts, to Braun22 for being endlessly patient with me and making the bass to my specifications, to ladyAdelaide for the gorgeous piano, to DoctorWorth whose guitar parts I loved and Visitor for giving me the guidelines for the guitar parts I wanted.

AND an extra special thanks to RegularJoe who not only created this incredible website for me and all of you to take advantage of, he also recommend this song and got us all the help we needed.

Notes:
*there's some clacking from the piano sustain pedal.
i couldn't do a thing about it so just close your eyes and pretend she's playing in the room with you

*please listen with head phones :)
I paned the violin and the piano to opposite ears for a surround sound feel

Hitrecord Testimonial: :)
I moved to central Wisconsin from Phoenix, Arizona in January and had to quit all
3 bands I was in to do it. Since i couldn't play any instruments, I felt like a part of me had died and pretty much had no purpose in life. I woke up, worked, ate, and slept like a robot. I felt like half a person. I wrote this song one day last month and the next day I just happened to find Hitrecord.org. I decided that if I was ever going to be able to finish any of my songs again THIS WOULD BE THE PLACE TO DO IT!
so I sat my ass down in front of my computer, learned how to use garage band and pushed myself until I had something worth presenting to you all. The last few weeks of my life have been outstanding! I feel as though I have a purpose and this community has given me a new lease on life, that no matter where I am, I can be connected to other artistis and musicians who like me, want to create, share and LOVE.
I am so HAPPY :D and it's your fault.
Again By Heart,
❥Riana

if anyone would like to collaborate with me on a new record, this one is in progress :)

My attempt at a Christmas Song for filmpunk's collab. I'll upload the wavs too if anybody wants em!

As we sidestep through November
We set sights fast on December
And that day we all remember
To the fire’s dying ember

December, December
You chill us to our bones
December, December
A time for going home

In the air my breath turns white
As day so quickly turns to night
This early turn suits me alright
Instead of the sun the stars burn bright

The Christmas chill nostalgia bringing
Familiar songs old favourites singing
In every quarter bells are ringing
To each other we are clinging

December, December
You chill us to our bones
December, December
A time for going home

All together for a day
We do things the old-fashioned way
We celebrate against the grey
Of leafless trees that icy sway

December, December
You chill us to our bones
December, December
A time for going home

I was challenged to write music to your picture. http://hitrecord.org/records/293036 The darkness and colours made me think hard rock, so I went with that sound. The vocal should be kinda Amy Lee-ish, and I'll try to sing it as best as I can. (Nowhere near as good as Amy Lee, though) ;) I'm not totally finished with it but here's the lyrics and the main structure. I hope you like it. Scattered Rainbow ******************************* Staring into the darkness Only she could see the light Only she could witness the night Any colour, Any colour Staring at the colours She could see beyond black and white She could feel the fantastic flight Of the rainbow. Deep down inside she knew Let the spirit grow... Let the spirit grow... On and on and on, she grew Let your good heart know. Let your good heart know. Loving the scattered rainbow...

Lyrics:
I found myself on my own,
Barefoot beneath the moon,
I tried to clear my head for a minute,
And exorcise someone from within it.

Her voice is like an echo
And my memories are still
Like photographs on low exposure
And I can't recall
Without losing composure,
Just a little bit everytime...

Please listen LOUDish and preferably with headphones. first pass @ this. i haven't done much with it except lay the separate audio tracks down and move them around a bit. i messed with the audio levels and balance slightly, but not with too much thought. i left the background music that pam had included in on her audio & you can hear the piano creep in at several moments. i actually like the effect in most instances (especially when the harmonica makes a guest appearance), but i think i need a little more depth in the various sounds so that it blends a bit more? i'm also thinking the ending could use something. maybe i just add in a ton of whisper tracks and fade out gradually? let me know if anyone has ideas or suggestions. i should mention that i am not a "music mixer" or composer (to be honest, i think i just about crashed my freeware audacity will all these tracks) but i am experimenting avant garde style and i am inspired to teach myself new ways of creating. i like the idea that you can't always hear the words clearly, but that your brain is picking them up regardless. <3

you're likely to lose

the ambient light waves

permeating our souls

i wish i could hold onto your heart

and mend the wounds i tend to create

to suit our needs

i move you past the x-ray

to where the darkness feeds

i wish i could hold onto your heart

My first bit of instrument music made with the Shadow Beings in mind. I imagined midlights and noondays welcoming the day, with possibly an adventure? Hmm... I'm still thinking of themes and motifs, but this is a good foot to start on.

I end the piece with a shift... as the sun sets, and we make into the "Gloam" section, perhaps?

Water floats around my head

Clouds move in and hide the sun

But can you hear that wondrous sound?"

Ooh

We're sinking now

We're sinking down
