I hoped to have this finished by the end of 2010. But I suppose right at the start of 20eloven is just as good, yes?
So. Let's get started.
1. Favourite prose in too deep [noir intro] by Crispyfuller I adore this sort of writing, and there is not enough of it on this site. It's the beginnings of an excellent story, and I can't wait to see the results. Also, the fact that Crispy rarely does text RECords, and when she does it's gems like this, make it all the more special.
2. Favourite poem This Year... by Metaphorest The "favourite poem" selection was always going to belong to Metaphorest, but I had a different RECord in mind before this morning. This Year is filled with determination and beauty, and exactly the things that resolutions should be made of.
I will remember too that starts and ends
are always and everywhere,
every second primed for a revolution
and I won’t wait for a New Year
to make a resolution
3. Favourite animation Nothing Big animation (version) by Marielv How could this selection belong to anyone but Marielv? She has proved her extraordinary talent time and time again, and is one of my favorite REmixers. Nothing Big is definitely one of my favorite RECords, and to see it REmixed into an animation so beautifully is a sure treat.
4. Favourite video Everything is on Fire by RegularJOE Again, this was supposed to be a different video, up until a few days ago. When I saw this, I was moved to tears. It's a magnificent song to begin with, and to see it set to such gorgeous footage and so magnificently edited is so beautiful.
AND A SECOND. I can't help it.
The Horrifically Mundane Life of Sarah Cohn (video) by Layla Apart from the fact that this is the first big REmix anyone's done of something of mine... this is such a gorgeous thing. Layla edited and put this together so gloriously. Every time I watch it, I feel the story so strongly. And it's still so amazing that all but one of these clips are from hitRECord, not filmed specifically for this video.
5. Favourite song
Nothing Big by RegularJOE
Okay. For me, this spot could not have been anything else. This was one of my first RECommendations, and I believe that it's the first thing I ever downloaded off of hitRECord. I listen to it constantly, and share it with everyone I can.
6. Favourite audio RECord
That Which Was Our Friendship by Pamagotchi
This is not just because this is a reading of my record. I remember the first time hearing this, and how moved I was by it. It is such an honest, heartfelt/heartbreaking reading, I forgot that I wrote it.
7. Favour ite Illustration
Stitchpunk [coloured] by Neithan
This is a beautiful picture to start with, but even more beautiful with the gorgeous colors Neithan used. I'm still in awe of what this image started. Truly hitRECordian.
8. Favourite photography
Floating Effortlessly and Timelessly by LifeIsGood
Just a plain gorgeous photo. So beautiful.
9. Favourite collab
RECord Challenge Collab by Crispyfuller
This was, and still is, so much fun. It is getting some excellent response and challenges, forcing some RECorders to step ever-so-slightly out of their comfort zone, and the REsult is some REmarkable RECords. ;]
10. Favourite remix
Float by Layla
I remember the first time seeing this and being awestruck by the beauty of the image, and everything that was happening in it. I could not believe it. It tells such a story, and there is always something new to find.
11.Favourite Tiny Story
Tiny Stories: Love by susurro
This is without a doubt my favorite. I adored it the moment I saw it. It's so powerful, while still being so tiny.
12. Favourite fictional character
My main man, Morgan M. Morgansen. How can it be anyone else?
13. Favourite Speciality Record
eleven/eleven by MattConley
This is such a beautiful, beautiful RECord for such a beautiful day. I watched it many, many times that night. Well done.
14. HitRECorder of the Year
Crispyfuller
Okay. So, this was very difficult. Not really. I had a few people in mind, but Crispy beat them out in the end. You go. Crispy is such a splendid hitRECorder and really embodies what this site is about. She constantly says that her favorite thing is REmixing -- which it should be. She's hilarious and darling and just wonderful. She really has a capability of rallying people together to do something. She starts things on the site with purpose and drive and REmixes like no one's business. I'm so happy, nay, I'm proud to call her my friend.
15. RECord of the Year
To Those Who Weren't as Lucky (video) by Teafaerie
This RECord really means something to me. I remember reading the text for the first time, and being so moved, not really thinking that it would effect me any further than that. Until I heard Tea reading it, saying it, being it. Until I saw those careful hands, that darling voice. This poem is such a tribute, such an honor, and still so gorgeous on its own. It really moved me in ways I didn't think possible. I had an extreme emotional reaction to hearing it, and that doesn't happen too often. I see things in a different way, I feel them in a different way now. I could go on and on and on and on and on about this poem... but let me end with this: I listen to this at least once a day. It's one of the most played on my iPod. Any time I try to listen to it once, it usually turns into five times. Thank you, Tea. You're so beautiful.
and every choice I make
kills thousand of futures
some of them better
all of them perfect
and everything that I do I’ll still do with you
cause how could we be apart?
and everything I do is in your honor
and I’m going to keep on being me for you, anyway
I don’t really know how to be me without Us
but
I’ll keep on being something
and I’ll force this to make me more beautiful
and I’ll make it make me better
because I have to
and I’ll love you every day
no matter what
and I’ll love all of the other ones every day
no matter what
and I’ll teach them what you taught me
about infinity, and perfection

wirrow first Released this song back in the springtime. The first thing I did after the first time I heard it was email dan, saying "I found your new favorite song." He and I share a love for the pleasantly repetitive.
Other musicians added to it, PixelPilgrim and ChenelyWelly added to wirrow's vocals from the female persuasion. Nels Cline played hot guitar. Jeff Peff added percussion and edited the whole thing together into its current form.
The hypno-face template is one of the cooler aesthetic feats our mass collaborative process has achieved so far: wirrow drawing the first face, then hundreds of hitRECorders coloring it into diversity.
And the work of a whole lot of video artists went into this montage I've cut. Too many to name in this description, but I'll cite the resources below. (I've listed some so far, but I'll have to dig around to find the rest) The footage of dan spinning comes from Vanya, who is well intent on uploading the resource, I know because he's standing right next to me.
